However, looking at their clothes and the badges on their chests, Dr. Liu realized it was unlikely to be a prank. Perhaps they were newcomers, recently hired?

Out of politeness, Dr. Liu still smiled and nodded at them:

“Are you new employees?”

Hearing this, the two strangers nodded and replied:

“Yes, we just started yesterday. We’re touring the facility. Could you tell us where the operating room is?”

“Of course, just go straight, and you’ll find it,” said Dr. Liu, pointing the way with his hand.

“Thank you,” they said, then headed inside.

Meanwhile, Bai Liang had already approached the laboratory door. Peering inside, he noticed a faint light that allowed him to make out numerous scientific instruments standing in the room.

However, he found no other oddities.

Entering the laboratory, Bai Liang immediately headed to a specific spot – the place where Fang Anping had previously been searching for something.

The letter had clearly indicated where the desired test tube was located. Opening one of the cabinets, he quickly found it.

It was a blue glass test tube; its contents faintly glowed in the darkness, creating a gentle luminosity. With the slightest movement, the liquid inside shimmered, like a tiny stellar galaxy – mesmerizing and beautiful.

With the test tube in hand, Bai Liang finally smiled. All he needed to do was hand the test tube to Professor Zhang, and he would receive a clue to complete the mission.

But then...

Whoosh!

From a corner of the laboratory, a dark figure suddenly darted out, rushing straight for the test tube in Bai Liang's hands!

It seemed as though Bai Liang hadn't noticed it at all. And when a hand reached for the test tube, it was easily snatched from his grasp.

The dark figure instantly recoiled to a safe distance, stopping in the dim light.

Under the faint light, its form became clear, and Bai Liang froze in horror: it was... the already dead Fang Anping!

“Hahaha, in the end, it’s still mine, you fool!” Looking at the potion in his hands, Fang Anping broke into a radiant smile.

He looked at Bai Liang, the corners of his lips curling slightly into a mocking smile, his eyes flashing with derision.

【Didn't that guy just die? How is he alive again?!】

【It must have been some kind of artifact. In more difficult missions, every Player has at least one way to avoid death. His death scene was probably just an illusion.】

【I'm getting goosebumps. Is this the first time Bai-shen has been tricked?!】

【No, wait. Look at Bai-shen's expression. Judging by his reactions in previous missions, this guy couldn't have succeeded so easily at all. But Bai-shen didn't even try to stop him...】

【My hair is standing on end. First, Bai-shen lured this guy into a trap, and now it turns out this guy also has a hidden ace up his sleeve. He took the opportunity to deceive Bai-shen and grab the test tube.】

...

“It wasn’t for nothing that I spent a Mirror Puppet, an A-class item,” a hint of annoyance appeared on Fang Anping’s face. This item was extremely rare and far more valuable than ordinary puppets.

Throughout his career, he had only obtained such an artifact once, and purely by luck. If this scenario hadn't been so unknown, he would never have dared to use it.

But in the end, it was worth it. The item was not used in vain: he managed to deceive that terrifying entity, and Bai Liang along with it.

Now that the potion was in his hands, he could obtain the key to completing the mission. All of it felt like a triumph.

However, Fang Anping soon began to notice that something was off.

Despite everything that had happened, Bai Liang’s expression hadn’t changed for a second. He remained perfectly calm.

“Who said it was yours? Fool!”

At that moment, a voice sounded right beside his ear.

The smile on Fang Anping's face suddenly froze. He sharply turned his head to see what was happening.

Fang Anping saw Bai Liang standing next to him, holding a test tube in his hand that was slightly larger than the one he possessed.

Fang Anping glanced at his own test tube, then at the test tube in Bai Liang's hands, and finally at the "Bai Liang" whose hands were empty.

“You... you have a mirror puppet doppelganger too?!” he exclaimed.

He instantly realized he had been tricked. The "Bai Liang" from whom he had snatched the test tube turned out to be a fake! The real Bai Liang had long since held the genuine test tube in his hands. No wonder he hadn't reacted at all when he attacked earlier!

In the dim lamp light, Fang Anping felt like a true clown, performing alone, unable to even elicit a smile from Bai Liang.

【Hahaha, what did I tell you? Bai Liang always stays on top, he never loses!】

【Poor guy, he was unlucky to meet Bai Liang. Never think you can outsmart him – that's self-deception!】

【Everything in life has its price, and Bai Liang is the one who sets it.】

【Another loser. Looks like this poor soul should be ready for surprises – like opening his blanket and finding an old sow's bras there.】

【Haha, you guys really come up with genius metaphors.】

“Damn it!”

If he could, Fang Anping would gladly tear the cunning Bai Liang to pieces, but he knew he couldn't. Until he understood Bai Liang's true strength, attacking would be the greatest foolishness.

Realizing this, Fang Anping snorted coldly, turned around, and prepared to leave.

Since he couldn't get the test tube, there was no point in staying here. It was better to leave this dangerous place as quickly as possible.

But just as he turned, a three-edged Army Knife appeared in his hand, its sharp blade glinting in the dim light.

Swish!

Fang Anping, like a gust of wind, lunged at Bai Liang with lightning speed, leaving blurred trails behind him.

Red lights flared in his eyes, as if he had transformed into a demon from hell.

Run? To hell with running!

If Bai Liang was so calm and confident, it clearly meant he had no intention of letting him go. Bai Liang was definitely going to act.

Instead of trying to escape, Fang Anping decided to go all-in. This was his only chance to survive.

“Die!” he roared.

Clutching his weapon, Fang Anping, his face contorted with rage, lunged at Bai Liang and tried to strike him in the neck. He was already at the opponent's right side, needing only one more move to deliver the blow!

SWISH!

The three-edged Army Knife plunged into Bai Liang's neck. Fang Anping's face momentarily lit up with joy, but then instantly twisted into horror. He didn't see a single drop of blood!

The wounded Bai Liang suddenly smiled, and a second later, his body dissolved into glowing particles, vanishing without a trace.

“What else can I call you? Fool,” a familiar voice sounded from behind.

Fang Anping spun around sharply and saw yet another Bai Liang, standing behind him. In his hand, he held a syringe filled with some kind of liquid.

Boom!

Fang Anping collapsed to his knees, his face contorted in utter despair. He looked at the Bai Liang standing before him, who regarded him with cold indifference.

“What... What is even real here?!” he screamed.

He saw no way to win!

He had done everything he could. He had used all his strength, all his trump cards, but even then, he saw not the slightest glimmer of hope!

The man before him was like a demon.

How could he be a D-level Player?

Why, being in the same D-level Dungeon, was the gap between them so enormous?!!
