Weird Rules Rumor: At The Beginning, He Insisted That He Was Not Dead -
Chapter 147: Electrify Her: There's a Traitor Among Us.
"What flying airport just ambushed me?"
Bai Liang reacted quickly, dodging a head-on collision with Wu Fanfan, who, unable to brake, slammed into a tree behind him.
Boom!
Li Xin raised a hand to cover her face, shaking her head, bewildered by Wu Fanfan's actions.
"You're finally here, Boss!" Wu Fanfan, a red mark on her forehead as if nothing had happened, walked up to Li Xin and, with a smile, addressed Bai Liang.
Li Xin gave her a scrutinizing look and knew: it wasn't just the tree that had hit her; her mind had taken a knock too. She turned Wu Fanfan towards Bai Liang:
"Your boss is over there."
Then she looked at Bai Liang:
"This isn't the best place to talk. Let's go inside."
They entered the base and headed to Li Xin's office. Bai Liang settled onto the sofa without a moment's hesitation.Wu Fanfan brought a cup of coffee and placed it before Bai Liang:
"Boss, here's your cappuccino."
"Only one cup?" Li Xin tapped her fingers on the table, eyeing Wu Fanfan intently.
Smiling, she replied:
"Captain, my coffee machine is broken."
"You can use mine," Li Xin pointed to the coffee machine in the corner of the office.
"Oh, I don't have any coffee beans either," she added with a smile.
"I have some. You know where it is," Li Xin insisted.
Wu Fanfan poured a cup of hot water and, handing it to the Captain, said:
"Captain, drink more water. It's good for your health."
Li Xin took the cup of hot water, giving her a pointed look, and said:
"To business. Why did you call him?"
Bai Liang also turned to Wu Fanfan, awaiting an explanation.
She took out a document and placed it on the table:
"Boss, I was recently reading a guide. There's a problem in it that I can't solve."
"Please take a look. If we don't solve this problem, we might fail the dungeon if we ever enter it."
Bai Liang took the guide and glanced at the dungeon's name: "Wilderness Inn."
The scenario began with players, acting as travelers, checking into an inn where something sinister, disguised as a guest, lurked.
Players had to survive five days, collect clues, and find bus tickets to leave the inn and complete the dungeon.
The guide listed the locations of some clues, how to obtain them, and information about NPCs.
The problem Wu Fanfan encountered was as follows:
After checking into their room, the travelers discover a steel pipe protruding from the ceiling, which becomes a source of danger at night.
According to the available information, this pipe cannot be dismantled, and the guest in the room below is something sinister. Attempting to communicate with them carries risk, and even if successful, the pipe might still not be removable.
If reported to an NPC in the inn, they will only warn about the impending danger once, making that night safe. However, this opportunity is only granted once.
If Bai Liang were in this situation, he would most likely use his "Annihilation" ability to solve the problem, but Wu Fanfan clearly doesn't possess such abilities.
To deal with this situation, the only option is to move to a room without a metal pipe, but the only such room in the inn is on the first floor, where NPCs live. Players cannot check into it.
As Bai Liang pondered, Li Xin glanced at the guide. Seeing the scenario's name, she immediately understood what was going on.
"Don't rack your brain over it. This problem can't be solved by conventional means. I've been through this scenario. At night, the anomaly ascends through the pipe. To avoid danger, you either use other players or find a voodoo doll," Li Xin said, chuckling as she sipped her hot water.
According to the rules, the anomaly only kills one person each night and then disappears.
But the cost of solving the problem is too high. Dolls aren't cheap; even if they're less expensive than magical charms, they're still unaffordable for ordinary players.
Over five days, even with the single chance of protection from an NPC, four dolls would be needed. That would cost approximately 40,000 Rule Points. For a C-class scenario completion, that's completely uneconomical.
True, Wu Fanfan could afford it. As a genius of the "Zero Clearing" organization, she possessed resources unavailable to other players.
Wu Fanfan pouted discontentedly and muttered:
"You only got a B-rank for that dungeon, what makes you think you can compare to the great masters?"
"Are you asking for a beating?" Li Xin's eyes flashed, her fists clenched, and she glared fiercely at Wu Fanfan.
At that moment, Bai Liang put down the guide and said:
"Actually, there's another way."
Both girls turned their attention to him. Wu Fanfan's eyes lit up:
"I told you, you're the coolest!"
"What way?" Li Xin asked curiously. She herself had gone through this scenario and knew perfectly well how difficult it was.
To create a guide for her organization, Li Xin had thoroughly studied every rule and knew how to handle most dangers.
But with this specific problem, there was no other way out except to spend Rule Points or use other players.
However, using other players in a C-class scenario is incredibly difficult: such players are already experienced enough and won't be easily deceived.
Even Li Xin, with all her skills, only managed to complete the scenario after sacrificing two dolls and convincing two other players to trust her through a series of complex manipulations.
"Look closely at this rule," Bai Liang pointed to a line in the guide:
"Outside the inn, players cannot stay on the street after nightfall, but they can remain in the shopping center. If you hear a strange knock at the door, you can turn off the electricity in the shopping center.
When the strange creature leaves, players must return to the inn within ten minutes."
Hearing this, Li Xin and Wu Fanfan exchanged glances, then turned their attention to Bai Liang.
"What's wrong with this rule?" Li Xin asked.
"Of course, there's a nuance," Bai Liang took a sip of his coffee and continued:
"This rule implies that the shopping center's doors are electrified, and electricity can harm strange creatures, preventing them from entering."
"Do you understand what I mean?"
Wu Fanfan and Li Xin, both quite intelligent, immediately grasped the essence.
"Exactly! We can run electricity through the metal pipes, and then it won't be able to come up!" exclaimed Wu Fanfan.
Li Xin, understanding the implication, looked at Bai Liang with a hint of bewilderment and admitted:
"Why didn't I think of such a simple solution?"
"Because we're not as awesome as him!" Wu Fanfan said with a smile. She turned to Bai Liang with admiration:
"You're simply a genius! Is there room on your thigh for the likes of me?"
Bai Liang, maintaining his composure, placed the cup on the table and calmly stated:
"Problem solved. Transfer 1,000 Rule Points."
Li Xin, who had just taken a sip of water, nearly choked. Her eyes wide, she stared at Bai Liang:
"You already studied the guide! You used this yourself, and now you want a reward too?"
She turned to Wu Fanfan:
"Don't transfer it to him! He'll only get more brazen!"
Wu Fanfan looked at her silently with an innocent expression.
Li Xin frowned:
"You already transferred it to him, didn't you?"
