Weird Rules Rumor: At The Beginning, He Insisted That He Was Not Dead -
Chapter 130: Healing Town (7)
Bai Liang felt more and more with each word that Fang Zhiyi had misunderstood him. Seeing her strange expression, he immediately guessed what was going on.
“I meant ordinary chickens that you can stew, not those that rap and play basketball,” he clarified.
Fang Zhiyi was momentarily stunned, but then adjusted her hair with a perfectly calm gesture. There wasn't a hint of embarrassment or awkwardness on her face.
“They are sold at the market. If you want to eat, I can go and buy one,” she offered.
“No need,” Bai Liang shook his head. “I need a chicken that roams the streets; I don't take caged ones.”
The rules clearly stated that the key to solving the puzzle was a “yard chicken.” If he bought one from the market, he wasn't sure if it would work, and he didn't want to waste time. Although, perhaps it was worth checking? After a slight pause, Bai Liang turned to Fang Zhiyi:
“Alright, go and buy one if you can. While you’re at it, stop by the pharmacy and get a Medical Box there. And put the chicken in the Medical Box.”
“Put the chicken in a Medical Box?” Fang Zhiyi was surprised. She couldn't fathom how these two things could be combined. But since Bai Liang was a generous employer, she didn't mind carrying out the errand provided his safety was taken care of first.
“Perhaps I should escort you back to your ward first?” she inquired.
“No need. I’ll stroll around a bit longer here. If anything happens, I have a Pager, and I’ll contact you immediately,” Bai Liang said, deciding to look around and also check for any rules he hadn't noticed yet.Besides, with his current strength, if he encountered someone stronger, he could at least escape or so he thought. Bai Liang wasn't so overconfident as to believe himself invincible. He was accustomed to acting cautiously.
For example, he hadn't actually sat in the wheelchair himself the entire journey. The capabilities of the Illusory Book were too valuable not to be utilized to their fullest.
“Alright,” Fang Zhiyi nodded seriously. “If anything happens, be sure to let me know. I’ll rush over as fast as I can!”
After all, he was her “chicken that lays golden eggs.” If anything happened to him, there would be no one to cry for least of all her.
“Go on.”
When Fang Zhiyi left, Bai Liang remained alone in the garden and leisurely walked along the path. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a familiar figure. On the adjacent path was Zhou Hong, being pushed in a wheelchair by his bodyguards. From time to time, they would cast furtive glances towards Bai Liang, pretending to look past him. But when Bai Liang looked directly at them, they immediately averted their eyes.
It was clear: Zhou Hong was watching him. He was probably alarmed by the strange things he’d noticed during their previous encounter. On one hand, it was a sensible decision one could learn more about potential “tasks” this way. But there was also a certain risk: in this world, nothing was entirely risk-free.
Apparently, Zhou Hong understood that as long as their interests didn't clash, Bai Liang wouldn't attack first. In the absence of overt hostility, Players benefited more from cooperation or at least from not interfering with each other, especially if the opponent was strong.
“Well, he’s a rather clever fellow...” Bai Liang thought with a faint smile, not paying him any further attention.
Other patients were also strolling in the garden: few were in wheelchairs, and even fewer had attendants. Most likely, those being cared for by “guards” were indeed other Players. The rest were simply ordinary patients.
“So, most Players only had a thousand Yuan at the start. Within four days, they either have to earn money or find all their organs. Either way, it’s not an easy task; there’s too little time.”
Lying in bed and waiting for death was clearly not the best option, so the sooner one understood the rules, the greater the chance of survival.
Suddenly, around a bend, he noticed a figure in a White Robe on a bench. The person was engrossed in reading a book. Bai Liang looked closer: the letters on the name tag on their chest were unclear, but as he approached, he deciphered:
“Name: Zu Wei
Age: 24
Workplace: Yuanxing Clinic
Position: Leading Doctor
Note: Double PhD from Karloros University, specialization Surgery.”
“Zu Wei?” The name seemed familiar. His previous attending physician was also supposedly named that. And indeed: her appearance matched sharp features, attractive looks, and most importantly large, clear eyes, shining like stars. Thick black hair cascaded in waves over her shoulders, and her delicate eyebrows were slightly arched. She looked very pleasant. Her figure... if he were to give a rating on a ten-point scale, Bai Liang would give a 9.9, fearing that a 10 out of 10 would make the girl conceited.
Recalling Fang Zhiyi’s words, he confirmed that he truly liked Zu Wei. So he decided to approach her and talk. He needed to clarify a few things otherwise, his thoughts wouldn't rest.
Zu Wei sat on the bench with perfect posture, flipping through an anatomy textbook.
“Even a doctor with two PhDs sometimes reviews a basic anatomy textbook?” Bai Liang addressed her.
She raised her eyes. Before her stood an attractive young man in a wheelchair with a kind smile.
“Hello. Are you Zu Wei? I’m Bai Liang. You probably know me,” he extended his hand to her.
Zu Wei didn’t look surprised. She closed her book and, smiling, returned his handshake:
“Nice to meet you. How can I help?”
“Sorry to interrupt your reading,” Bai Liang said with a slightly apologetic smile. Glancing at the bench next to her, he asked, “May I sit down? I’d like to talk to you for a bit.”
Zu Wei was slightly surprised and was about to offer him assistance (after all, he was in a wheelchair), but she didn't get the chance. Bai Liang rose with unexpected ease and sat down beside her, as if he weren't ill at all.
Zu Wei seemed speechless: “What kind of miracle is this? Isn’t he seriously ill?” As the chief attending physician, she understood better than anyone how severe Bai Liang’s illness was. All his internal organs were removed, and he only survived by the “rules” even if he could move, he certainly shouldn’t look so lively.
But what she was seeing now completely contradicted that fact. There were no signs of weakness.
