Chapter 100: Chapter 99 Family (Monthly Ticket 200+)

She felt as though she was a thief, having stolen the original mistress’s happiness and the Xia Family’s care for the original mistress.

"Big sister, why are you crying?" Xia Chunrong opened his mouth.

Only then did Xia Xiao realize that she had started to cry, and upon seeing this, Li Wenjuan began to cry too, "Big sister, you’ve suffered."

Xia Weiguo also had a look of despair. Having injured his leg, he could only recuperate at home, feeling a great sense of loss.

Realizing that her tears had saddened her family, Xia Xiao wiped them away and said, "The people in the production team take good care of me. My roommates are easy to get along with. Although the work is tiring, we find joy in hardship. Our production team is praised as a model unit every year."

Xia Xiao shared some stories with her family, but ultimately she concealed the matter of resisting the bandits. There were things she hadn’t mentioned in letters, and she was now telling her family to reassure them.

Xia Xiao looked at Xia Weiguo’s leg, which, like He Hongjun’s, required a cane to walk. For a man, having a disabled leg was indeed a huge blow.

Nevertheless, Xia Xiao noticed that Xia Weiguo’s complexion was still good, he seemed spirited. Clearly, Li Wenjuan took very good care of Xia Weiguo. His clothes were tidy and clean, and his hair was combed meticulously without a strand out of place.

Xia Xiao walked to the bedside, looking at her little brother Xia Hua, who was sound asleep. He was a cute child, very delicate looking.

"Where are your second, third, and fourth sisters?" Xia Xiao asked.

"I sent them to buy some vegetables," Li Wenjuan said.

Xia Xiao took the opportunity to look around the house, surprised by the cramped conditions. In a room of about twenty to thirty square meters lived a family of seven. It was too crowded. There were just two sets of bunk beds in the house. Now that she was back, exactly eight people could sleep two to a bed.

Still, it was too small, too cramped.

"Big brother, don’t you have a dormitory?" Xia Xiao asked.

"Yes, we live in a large dormitory. Most of the time, I stay in the dormitory, and I only occasionally come home," Xia Chunrong said.

Xia Xiao nodded. That was a relief, it wasn’t too crowded.

Soon, Xia Xiao’s three younger sisters returned, each having grown up beautifully. If she had met them outside, Xia Xiao would never have recognized them.

The second sister, Xia Jing, was 14 years old, in her first year of junior high.

The third sister, Xia Hong, was 12 years old, in the fifth grade of elementary school.

The youngest sister, Xia Lin, was 10 years old, in the third grade of elementary school.

Little brother Xia Hua was two years old this year.

"Your big sister is back, why didn’t you call out? You’ve been looking forward to this every day, and now you’ve all gone mute?" Li Wenjuan said.

"Big sister," the mouths of the Xia sisters formed O shapes.

"Second sister, third sister, youngest sister," Xia Xiao smiled faintly.

"Big sister, did you go become a fairy? How did you get so beautiful?" The second sister, Xia Jing, came forward and touched Xia Xiao’s face, full of envy.

The third sister, Xia Hong, also said, "Big sister’s skin is really nice."

The youngest sister, Xia Lin, immediately hugged Xia Xiao. "Big sister, I missed you."

"I missed you too," Xia Xiao touched her youngest sister’s head, surrounded warmly by her sisters, with her family looking on affectionately. She truly felt this happiness for the first time.

The Xia children all inherited Xia Weiguo’s broad forehead and prominent nose, and the rest from Li Wenjuan.

"Big sister, how many days are you back for?" Xia Weiguo asked.

"Five days," Xia Xiao said.

"Just a few days and then you have to go," Li Wenjuan said with a disappointed expression.

Xia Weiguo said, "The child has her own work to do, it’s already not bad that she can stay for five days."

"Yes, as long as we know where home is, we’ll come back," Xia Xiao said.

Looking at her dear and lovable family, Xia Xiao wasn’t sure which two sisters appeared at the annual meeting, meaning Xia Jing, Xia Hong, and Xia Lin were in potential danger.

There was also her younger brother Xia Hua. She had only heard about Old Dong having two sisters but never about him having a brother. Xia Xiao’s heart involuntarily tightened. She had come to see the Xia family as her own kin and didn’t want to see any of her family members come to harm, nor did she want to lose any of them.

"Big sister, do you have a boyfriend?" Li Wenjuan asked.

Upon hearing this, all the Xia family members looked at Xia Xiao. The second sister, Xia Jing, said, "Big sister is so beautiful, there must be a lot of people pursuing her."

Xia Xiao noticed that although the second sister was named Xia Jing, she was far from calm and quiet. In contrast, the younger sister seemed more reserved, and the third sister was tomboyish and quite blunt.

Xia Xiao shook her head, "No, I’m still young. I’ll think about it in seven or eight years."

Xia Weiguo nodded, "Don’t rush it. We don’t know what the national policies will be like. Maybe in the future, you could be transferred back to the city."

"That would be better, to find someone in the city," Li Wenjuan said, not believing her daughter could find a good match in the remote countryside, despite the educated youth from different places being in the production team.

"Let’s talk about it later; there’s no rush for brother either," Xia Xiao said. Xia Chunrong was only nineteen, and the Xia family’s house was so cramped. If Xia Chunrong got married now and his wife moved in, along with their kids eventually, there could be a lot of conflict.

"He should think about it," Li Wenjuan said. "We’re so poor. If he doesn’t find someone while he’s young, it might be even harder later."

"I don’t want to think about this. A man can find a partner even at twenty-seven or twenty-eight," Xia Chunrong said.

But obviously, Li Wenjuan didn’t feel the same way; she preferred that her son find someone quickly while he was young. Otherwise, as he aged and remained poor, others might not find him appealing.

"That’s for men who have means. Our family isn’t well-off; shouldn’t we seize the chance early?" Li Wenjuan argued.

Xia Chunrong remained silent, his mind clearly elsewhere.

Xia Jing said, "Big sister, is it nice where you are? I might join you as educated youth too, so I can keep you company."

Xia Hong chimed in, "Big sister doesn’t even seem like she’s from the countryside; she’s more like a city person than city people. When I become an educated youth, I’ll go to where big sister is."

Xia Xiao couldn’t help but laugh, "You guys should focus on your studies first. To become educated youth, you at least need to graduate from junior high."

"Liar, big sister didn’t graduate from junior high," the younger sister Xia Lin suddenly spoke out.

"Don’t be foolish, you can’t just say anything," Li Wenjuan immediately covered Xia Lin’s mouth and slapped her bottom several times.

"Wah," Xia Lin cried out.

Xia Weiguo said, "The little sister needs to be taught well, to prevent her from speaking recklessly."

Busy comforting her younger sister, Xia Xiao said, "Mom, let me talk to her. She was too young to understand things before. Now she’s grown up and doesn’t need to be hit. Just talk to her nicely, she will understand."

This matter indeed shouldn’t be known to others; otherwise, it could cause trouble for brother’s work. Originally, it was supposed to be brother who went to the countryside, but the original host took his place.

If people found out, her brother might lose his job and be forced to go to the countryside.

If that happened, things would become even more difficult for the family.
