Chapter 260: Teacher and Disciple

Chapter 260: Teacher and Disciple

A wise minister wanted to meet a wise king and a wise king wanted to meet a wise minister.

When these two people who have the same desire meet with each other, the synergy between such people is undeniable.

And that is why Aeryon trusted Mayeux so much and why Mayeux would do his best to assist his lord.

Mayeux met Aeryon and these two people complemented each other.

Aeryon has grand ambition and Mayeux wanted to fulfil that ambition of his lord.

Mayeux kneels and put his hand on his heart and pledge allegiance to Aeryon and Aeryon pull him up, accept his allegiance and since then these two have been close like birth brothers.

They met night and day and whenever there is something that bothers the mind of the Kan, he would summon Mayeux.

Mayeux is also the only person other than Belarion that is allowed to bring weapons and to rush into the tent of the Kan without notification.

Mayeux is loved by the Kan and his soldiers.

He is loved by the Kan because of his talents.

And he is loved by the soldiers, because whenever he went into battle, Mayeux would always find a way to minimize the death of their tribes and maximise the destruction and death they could inflict on the other tribes.

This is why the most popular commander that the warriors of the tribe wanted to serve under is Belarion and Mayeux.

Belarion fought like a war god and his strength supresses all enemies. Mayeux calculate the battle and win with the least effort and the least damage.

The people of the Steppe might see death as a home but that does not mean that they are eager to die.

They would fight and would not mind dying, but if they could survive and enjoy the riches of their raids, enjoy the war booty why would they choose death?

And fighting under a victorious general is the best way to fight and win and survive to see another day.

Out of these three, only one of them has a disciple.

And that is Mayeux.

The cold wind blows but the coldness of the weather is no longer so biting.

Mayeux sighed before he enter his tent. His tent is also quite large and luxurious.

As one of the commanders that fought against the Yan soldiers, his army also gain many benefited and items from Nurshira.

Some they hoarded to be sold when merchant come down to their area.

Some is used as their items. Inside his large tent, there is another person.

This person is younger than Mayeux.

Long, dark hair flows freely, framing a face marked by strong features - a prominent jawline, high cheekbones, and a straight nose that speaks of ancestral heritage of the Great Steppe

He has an almost shaped eyes, complemented by a high cheekbones and prominent nose, his skin is a subtle blend of tones

A mixed child of a Yan person and a Great Steppe people

This young man is handsome by the standard of the Yan people. But if it is in the Great Steppe, he is more like a weak child.

At least his appearance that have none of the rugged charm of a youth of the Steppe, and his pale white skin that is paler than the sun kissed skin of the Steppe people would surely make him underestimated.

This young person right now is sitting cross legged in front of the short table reading articles.

He was about to sit down and relaxed himself when a voice come from the corner of the room

"teacher, did you tell the Kan what I ask? " Mayeux halted and he sighed. He look at his disciple and shakes his head

" I don’t think that what you suggested is something that should be brought up for now"

The disciple frowned

This is Mayeux disciple, Jayeux. This is the name Mayeux give him. Jayeux name in Yna is Ji Yu.

He is the son of the Ji family. The Ji family is the most influential family in Nurshira and one of the large family in the North of Yan

It might be weird why Mayeux would take such a person of Yan descent to become his disciple. This has something to do with Jayeux ability and also his own desire.

Only Mayeux knows the tragic story of Jayeux and why he hated the Yan so much so that he would betray the Yan empire and even the Ji family

In his own words, he wanted to make sure that the Ji family is annihilated from the world and none of their descendant would ever exist in the world anymore

This kind of hatred does not spawn overnight.

And Jayeux felt more at home in the Steppe than in the luxurious residence of the Ji family.

And he learns more and more with Mayeux.

And Mayeux also learned with Jayeux.

The discipleship of teacher and student in the Steppe is not as strict as the people of Yan

The teacher teaches the student but the student also could teach the teacher. The student would allow the teacher to learn how to teach.

And the student would learn from the teacher guidance. But there is no such strict rule like not marrying your teacher

And learning from your student is not something to look down upon. Regardless of the Yan façade of loving education, there is a struct hierarchy among them, between those who learn and who does not

One could even say they lost the spirit of their Great Teacher.

Education should not be discriminatory but that is what the schools do. And their method of learning strengthen the king but push the people down.

Because the Great Teacher is not a prophet or a God but simply a man.

And a man errs.

Because in the Steppe, there is people who is good at hunting, and there is people who is good at herding, there is people who is good at fighting and there is people who is good at riding.

To survive the harsh environment of the Steppe, those who good at hunting could teach the people who is good at fighting, the people who is good at fighting could teach the people who is good at herding and so on and so forth

From Mayeux, Jayeux learn the strategy of Roma and Yindu. From Jayeux, Mayeux learn the books and stratagems of the Yan.

They both learn from each other.

Jayeux is convinced of Mayeux wisdom of integrating what he had learned and applying it in the real world and Mayeux is convinced that when Jayeux would grow up he would become a great strategist.

However, even though both of them learn from each other, respected each other, and admire each other brilliance and talent, they are divergent when it is about their own philosophies.

Mayeux has a soft spot for Jayeux. The reason is quite simple. Because they are very similar. Mayeux is also a mixed child. The son of a Roma father and a Marynku mother.

And Jayeux is the son of a Marynku mother and a Yan father

They were both mixed children.

But if there is a difference between them it is in that the fact that Mayeux spend his childhood being appreciated by his father and grandfather.

Regardless of their treatment toward his mother, it is true that his father and his grandfather teach him everything that they knows to Mayeux so that he would inherit their legacy.

And it is because he learns from them that today he has such a high position among the tribe and could lead thousands of warriors, possessing great influence in the tribe

It is not the case for Jayeux.

The feeling of pity, and similar background make Mayeux feel close to his disciple.

And then when Jayeux shows his talent, Mayeux is even more convinced and treated Jayeux like his own son.

But their philosophy and the way of dealing with things is very different.

Right now, Aeryon is focusing on unifying the Southern Great Steppe.

And then after that, using the Southern Great Steppe as the base, they would begin to try to unify the Great Steppe.

This is the ambition that Aeryon has.

Mayeux since he knows the ambition of his lord is both daunted and excited.

He is daunted at the measure of the ambition of his lord and the prospect of unifying the Steppe, a feat that has not been done since the age of the Gods and the Age of Great Kings, and excited because if this feat is to be accomplished, the evaluation of him and his lord in the annals of history would forever be remembered

Each time Mayeux feel tired, he would remind himself

if this ambition is realized, then Aeryon and Mayeux would forever be remembered in history , in songs, in books , in the stories of storytellers for thousand years to come.

Their story would become a legend and they themselves would have touched immortality

Mayeux also knows that Aeryon also have intention for Yan.

This is hinted by his lord. Aeryon is someone who keep many things close to his heart. Sometimes, he hid things from Belarion and the Elders.

However, The Kan never hide his heart from Mayeux. The sincerity of Aeryon towards him is something he recognise.

And with a lord like that, how could he not be loyal?
