Was it you that night?
Chapter 281 - 279: The Bride Has Disappeared!

Chapter 281: Chapter 279: The Bride Has Disappeared!

"Elder sister is worrying too much. With Mr. Wuya’s current cultivation base, who could make him disappear? Unless it’s he himself who doesn’t wish to marry me," Shen Qinghe felt that Shen Zhiyao’s concerns were superfluous.

Upon hearing this, Shen Zhiyao felt it made sense.

By the time Shen Zhuo and Shen Zhiyao accompanied Shen Qinghe, dressed in a red bridal gown, to the Three Lives Stone, Dongfang Wuya, clad in a red wedding robe, had already arrived.

Seeing Shen Qinghe, he strode forward to meet her, took her small hand in his, and their fingers tightly interlocked.

Thereafter, presided over by the Matchmaker God, the wedding vows were completed. The Matchmaker God had them each drop a bit of their heart’s blood on the Three Lives Stone, and with that, the ceremony was considered complete.

Yan Changsheng and Xiao Chen watched this scene expressionlessly, but when Dongfang Wuya looked over, the two, in tacit agreement, looked away.

Dongfang Wuya was playing a game to kill the spirit, to let these two men see clearly that Shen Qinghe was now his Daoist companion.

There are plenty of beauties in the world; they shouldn’t always fixate on the one that belongs to his household.

The wedding banquet and the coronation feast were both held today, at Jade Pond, with all the distinguished immortals of Heaven Realm in attendance.

Shen Qinghe and Dongfang Wuya, the newlyweds, were toasted by many immortals, and Dongfang Wuya, in a joyous mood, drank a few extra cups.

Shen Qinghe originally didn’t take the toasting seriously, since with her current cultivation base, expelling the effects of the alcohol wouldn’t be difficult. However, for some reason, after a few drinks, she started to feel dizzy.

Upon noticing her discomfort, Dongfang Wuya sent her back to the Imperial Palace first.

But he, the bridegroom, couldn’t leave early and had to continue socializing at Jade Pond.

Worried about Shen Qinghe being alone in the Imperial Palace, Dongfang Wuya accepted a few toasts, thinking of finding an excuse to leave the banquet early when Yan Changsheng brought over a cup of wine.

"I toast to Mr. Wuya!" Yan Changsheng said as he clinked cups with Dongfang Wuya, then downed his drink. "Even though you’ve married Qinghe, you should know she didn’t truly marry you with her heart."

"Who says she didn’t genuinely marry me? Yan Changsheng, sometimes people need to learn to accept their fate. Qinghe and I are a match made in Heaven. No matter how unwilling you are, you can’t change the fact that she is my Daoist companion," Dongfang Wuya replied calmly, curling his lips into a faint smile.

On hearing this, Yan Changsheng scoffed coldly, "If it weren’t for you taking advantage when the situation was dire, she and I would not have parted..."

"You still can’t face reality! Even if I were not in the picture that year, her heart would have strayed from you. You have the blood of the Moon Emperor, that philanderer, running in your veins. You and your father are cut from the same cloth, both mistaking promiscuity for being deeply affectionate. As for Shen Qinghe, she’s a woman who prefers to lack rather than indulge, one act of unfaithfulness and she would condemn you to death. Whether in the past or now, it’s not me that you’ve lost to, but yourself," Dongfang Wuya interrupted Yan Changsheng’s self-righteous rant.

I understand the nature of the woman Shen Qinghe too well; she appears accommodating and soft on the surface, but in regards to people and things she’s determined about, no one can change her mind.

Yan Changsheng always thinks there is a chance to turn back from a mistake, but Shen Qinghe will never accept a man who has betrayed her.

Instead of anger, Yan Changsheng responded with a laugh, "That’s not necessarily so. Until the very end, how can you be so sure you’re the winner?"

Just as Dongfang Wuya was about to retort, he suddenly sensed something was off.

He scanned the surroundings, but Xiao Chen was nowhere to be seen.

When Shen Qinghe was with him just a moment ago, Xiao Chen was there too.

When did Xiao Chen disappear?

Yan Changsheng had intended to delay a little longer, but in an instant, Dongfang Wuya vanished from before his eyes.

Now, all he could hope for was that Xiao Chen was fast enough and had already taken Qinghe away...

Meanwhile, Dongfang Wuya arrived at the Imperial Palace only to sense something was wrong. Shen Zhiyao and Shen Zhuo had lost consciousness, and other Immortal Attendants lay on the ground, while his bride was nowhere to be found.

Livid with fury, he hurried to the Heavenly Gate and demanded of the Immortal Guards, "Have you seen Xiao Chen leaving Heaven Realm?"

"Xiao Chen had just left not long ago..." The Immortal Guard had barely begun speaking when the figure of Dongfang Wuya disappeared from in front.

As soon as Dongfang Wuya had left, the "God of Fate" appeared.

The Immortal Guard, finding it strange, asked, "Where might the Star Lord be heading?"

The "God of Fate" replied with a smile, "Just stepping out for a while, I shall return shortly."

Having said this, he exited through the Heavenly Gate under the watchful salutation of the Immortal Guard.

Once he had flown some distance away, the "God of Fate" revealed his true face—it was indeed Xiao Chen, flying in the exact opposite direction of Dongfang Wuya...

When Shen Qinghe woke up again, it was at twilight, and she felt utterly weak, without any strength.

She barely managed to climb out of the bed and asked in a hoarse voice, "Is Mr. Wuya still entertaining guests?"

No one responded. She looked at the figure of a man in front of her with puzzlement, and the more she looked, the more bewildered she felt, "Big Senior Brother?"

Xiao Chen turned around and looked at her, responding with a gentle smile, "Awake?"

Shen Qinghe looked around and realized that this place didn’t resemble the Heaven Realm, but more like the cultivation world, "Where is this?"

Why would Xiao Chen be here?

She remembered feeling a bit dizzy after drinking a few cups of Immortal Wine. Dongfang Wuya had escorted her back to the Imperial Palace, and she went to sleep first. She had no recollection of anything that happened after that.

Could there have been something wrong with the Immortal Wine she drank?

"This place is the Valley of Forgetfulness, where you and I shall reside from now on. Oh, and I’ve found you a companion so that you won’t be too lonely in the future," Xiao Chen spoke, and Shu Xiu walked in at the end of his sentence.

Shu Xiu walked briskly up to Shen Qinghe and then didn’t seem to want to leave again, staring at Xiao Chen with a wary eye, "What does Big Senior Brother intend to do?"

Who didn’t know that Qinghe and Wuya were a pair?

"I simply think the Valley of Forgetfulness is beautiful and suited for us to live for a long time. Qinghe is my Junior Sister, and also the one I hold dear. I am too fond of her to ever do anything to her," Xiao Chen was as ever, unassumingly harmless.

Senior Sister Shu wanted to say more, but Shen Qinghe tugged lightly at her sleeve, signaling her to stop talking so as not to provoke Xiao Chen.

Shen Qinghe had always found Xiao Chen to be unfathomable and not someone to be trifled with.

In the past, she only knew from books that Xiao Chen belonged to the Dragon Race, but she didn’t realize that he was also the oldest dragon among the Divine Race.

Though she didn’t remember the events from 500,000 years ago, she knew from the conversations amongst the three male leads that Xiao Chen must have been a formidable character back then.

And now that her Cultivation Base was weak, she couldn’t possibly defeat Xiao Chen. What she needed to do now was to concentrate on cultivating, to raise her Cultivation Base, and to avoid angering Xiao Chen.

"Then I and Senior Sister Shu will stay in the Valley of Forgetfulness for some days," Shen Qinghe paused before adding, "I feel so weak, I can’t muster any strength. Could Big Senior Brother give me a bowl of Sobering Soup?"

Xiao Chen broke into a laugh upon hearing her words, "I don’t have any Sobering Soup here. Perhaps you will get better after a few days. With Shu Xiu by your side, don’t worry."

Shen Qinghe was seething with silent rage.

Initially, she was just testing the waters with Xiao Chen, but now she was sure that her complete weakness was orchestrated by him.

"But I feel too weak to walk..."

The next moment, Xiao Chen was at her side, lifting her horizontally in his arms.
