Chapter 1665: Section 1666: Sober

"You’re awake?" Angel sat down on a chair nearby, asking softly.

Onassis raised his head to look around and finally settled his gaze on Angel: "Was it you, my lord, who saved me?"

Angel: "Besides me, do you see anyone else around?"

After a moment of thought, Onassis stood up solemnly and bowed to Angel: "Thank you, my lord."

"No need to thank me, after all, you used the reward you got for winning the New Star Championship." Angel waved his hand nonchalantly and asked, "How do you feel about your physical condition now?"

Onassis bowed his head and clenched his fist: "I feel quite good."

"Good to hear. Get ready then, the Coronation Ceremony is about to take place."

Seeing that Angel seemed to be about to leave, a hint of urgency flashed in Onassis’s eyes: "But my lord, although I feel quite good, I can no longer sense him. Can you tell me where he is?"

"He?" Angel looked deeply into Onassis’s eyes: "You mean, your second personality. Or should I say, the so-called inner demon in your heart?"

Onassis fell silent for a while, then nodded: "Yes."

"Can you tell me, why are you looking for him? If he wants to take over your body, it means he also poses a great harm to you." Angel watched Onassis quietly.

Onassis’s eyes flickered, yet under Angel’s gaze, he dared not lie.

"He is me, and I am him."

Angel: "Is that the only reason?"

Onassis lowered his head and remained silent. Thinking for a moment, Angel changed his approach: "With your abilities, you should be able to sense his existence. Since you have noticed him, why did you let him be?"

The narrow medical room fell into a long silence.

In the end, Onassis resignedly replied: "His emergence was accidental, an uncontrollable incident. At first, I really disliked his appearance, but everything has two sides."

"...His emergence might bring a lot of risks, but it also brought me great benefits. For example, it significantly advanced my understanding of Descartesian philosophy, which is the cornerstone of how I perceive the world."

Descartesian philosophy was a philosophical school created by the mathematician Descartes. It is different from the traditional philosophy of Nonron and the natural and humanistic philosophy pursued by Pythagoras. Descartesian philosophy seeks absolute rationality, emphasizing the breadth of thought and the depth of knowledge, and is a philosophy that rationalizes everything with reason.

It seems to have some connection with science.

Indeed, that is the case. Today’s Wizards’ Realm does not separate what is called "science" on its own; science is mixed with philosophy. It is like what Jon described about the ancient Earth, where philosophy and mathematics were intertwined, using both God and math to explain the world.

It seems absurd and unruly, but it actually contains certain logic.

Philosophy itself is a broad and inclusive concept, encompassing different intellectual collisions, especially Descartesian philosophy.

It could be said that among all philosophical schools, Angel admired Descartesian philosophy the most.

Onassis claims that the cornerstone of his understanding of the world is Cartesian philosophy. This also means that he is, in fact, a rationalist, and precisely because he is a rationalist, his level of tolerance is extremely broad. He can easily analyze the philosophical concepts of materialism and idealism, incorporating their essences into his own use.

"Does the splitting of personality contribute to the advancement of Cartesian philosophy?" Angel speculated, "That is to say, your rationality and sensibility are separated between two personalities?"

According to Angel’s understanding, by discarding unnecessary sensibilities and allowing rationality to dominate the personality, Onassis has made remarkable progress in his understanding of Cartesian philosophy.

Onassis shook his head: "It’s not a separation of rationality and sensibility, but Your Lordship is correct in the direction of understanding. My primary personality possesses all of rationality, while my secondary personality is left with only impulsivity."

The answer from Onassis allowed Angel to roughly piece together a story.

In a certain "accidental" instance, Onassis split his personality in two. Initially, he had some concerns, but as his primary personality held complete rationality, it gave him an unparalleled edge in his study of Cartesian philosophy. Therefore, even though he developed a dual personality, for Onassis, who was in pursuit of philosophy, it was not a hindrance but rather became a kind of "golden finger," enabling him to swiftly ascend the summit of philosophy.

This also explains why Onassis, at such a young age, has such profound insight into the study of philosophy.

Nonetheless, Angel still had some doubts.

"Since your primary personality holds all rationality and has brought you considerable benefits, why do you still care about your secondary personality, which is left only with impulsivity?" Angel asked.

Onassis pondered the question for a long time before replying, "As Your Lordship previously mentioned, I can indeed sense the existence of the secondary personality, and even when my primary personality dominates, I have the opportunity to completely expel it through the power of philosophy."

"But I cannot do so."

Onassis raised his head, looking straight at Angel with eyes shining purely: "Because it represents my recklessness; it is my baseless emotions. And philosophy, sometimes it needs not only rationality but also a bit of impulsivity."

What Onassis was after was the peak of philosophy. In his view, philosophy, like truth, has no end. Pursuing philosophy is, in fact, the pursuit of truth.

The study of philosophy cannot always be rational. Many great philosophical ideas were actually proposed in a state of anger and impulse. Therefore, Onassis could never strip away his second personality, the representative of impulsivity.

This was why, upon awakening, Onassis could not sense the existence of the second personality, which made him somewhat anxiously seek information from Angel.

"I see," Angel accepted Onassis’s reason, and what he said was indeed correct—even when applied to any academic discipline.

Absolute rationality is the foundation for research and development, but impulsivity and passion can sometimes become an aid that ignites the path forward.

"Can you now tell me where he is?" Onassis looked urgently.

Angel sensed the condition of Onassis’s secondary personality and, amidst Onassis’s anxious prompting, said, "He is now walking towards the dark wilderness with his back to the sunshine."

Onassis paused, momentarily not understanding Angel’s words.

Darkness and sunshine? Could it be that this phrase was a philosophical speculation?

Onassis began to deeply contemplate.

However, he was overthinking it; Angel was merely describing a fact. He had exiled Onassis’s secondary personality to the Wilderness of Dreams, which happened to be at a place where clouds and clarity intertwined. Onassis’s secondary personality, without hesitation, turned his back to the sunshine and headed towards the darker area.

Seeing that Onassis seemed to have misunderstood his words, Angel did not bother to explain further and continued, "I can release him at any time. Are you sure you can suppress him now? After all, the award and coronation Ceremony is about to take place in the Boundless Battle Arena, and no one wishes for any mishaps during the awarding."
