Chapter 234: Chapter 177 Ancient Clan Plan
"Let me know when you find anything," Zhou Xuan said to Li Chengfeng.
"I’ll do my best to gather intel on the Wuzuo Hall Master as quickly as possible,"
Li Chengfeng replied.
The Wuzuo Hall Master had no direct ties to the Bone Elder, so naturally, there wasn’t a roster with their name on it.
To find the Hall Master, they could only resort to more underground methods—using the Bone Elder’s network of influence to track them down.
"It will take time. At the quickest, maybe two or three days; at the slowest, more than a week. No guarantees,"
Li Chengfeng carefully avoided making any definitive promises.
Zhou Xuan understood. Even for the Bone Elder, it wasn’t easy to root out someone as notorious as the Wuzuo Hall Master.
The more upright one’s actions, the broader their social network—like Si Ming, for instance.
The Old Si hadn’t committed many heinous deeds. His enterprises were legitimate, he frequently showed his face in public, and attended all sorts of social gatherings, making him easier to locate.
But the Wuzuo Hall Master and the kidnapper Hall Master had committed innumerable evils, earning them many enemies. They hid deep in the shadows.
...
Back at the research institute, Zhou Xuan felt a deeper connection to the Blood Well Human Brain.
The four brains, suspended in their tanks like floating octopi, expanded and contracted the "回"-shaped folds of their cerebral grooves, emitting a faint, mournful hum, as if desperately conveying their longing to "go home" to Zhou Xuan.
"Old Li."
"Yes, Young Master."
"You want to know what happened last night, don’t you?" Zhou Xuan asked.
"Mm."
"Clear everyone out—leave too. I need a quiet space." Zhou Xuan commanded.
"Alright,"
Li Chengfeng complied, raising his hand to signal the staff in the research institute as he said, "Give the Young Master some space; everyone, step aside."
The staff, those tidying up the site, the students, the researchers, and Li Chengfeng himself, all exited the "Weird Creature Research Institute."
Once everyone had left, the Blood Well in Zhou Xuan’s Secret Realm began to stir restlessly, and the Blood Well Human Brain grew agitated as well.
"井子, don’t stir up trouble."
Zhou Xuan knew the Blood Well wanted to embrace the human brains directly, but now wasn’t the time.
"The Bone Elder Association—I can’t deal with them yet."
Zhou Xuan could already guess that Li Chengfeng wasn’t particularly influential within the Bone Elder Association.
Even Lu Yusheng, the Zhi Jia Master under the City God’s command, didn’t treat Old Li with much respect.
For someone as marginal as Li Chengfeng, to have six Incenses at his command was already remarkable. There was no telling whether there were experts with seven Incenses in the Bone Elder Association.
Even without a seven-incense expert, the numerous experts with five or six Incenses would already be too much for Zhou Xuan to handle.
If the Blood Well Human Brain were to be snatched directly, the City God and the Bone Elder Association’s experts would surely launch a relentless pursuit, day and night. The results would be catastrophic...
"Even if I could escape, Old Li wouldn’t stand a chance!"
Zhou Xuan had the Wash Away Injustice Talisman and could hide in a temporal rift, leaving those experts groping around in vain. But where could Old Li hide? Would he become a fugitive of the Bone Elder Association?
The Human Brain sensed what Zhou Xuan was thinking and emitted an even more sorrowful hum.
"Stop crying. I promise, it won’t be long before I take you away openly and justly."
With Zhou Xuan’s reassurance, the Blood Well Human Brain’s emotions settled somewhat, and the Blood Well fell quiet once more.
"Finding ’Hunger’ is what’s truly important,"
Zhou Xuan said, opening the Wash Away Injustice Talisman and writing a line into the talismanic script—August 30th, 2:00 AM, Mingjiang Prefecture, Hui Feng Medical College, Weird Creature Research Institute.
According to Li Chengfeng, he had gone to Qiye Temple at 2:00 AM to handle the issue of Zhou Xuan’s Swallowing Buddha’s Energy. Before leaving, the institute had been in good order.
Zhou Xuan rewound time back to the moment before Old Li had left.
After finishing the entry in the talismanic script,
the world around Zhou Xuan shifted.
...
In the depths of the night, the research institute was brightly lit. Researcher Wang Yiweng was sitting by the Brain Tank, receiving signals from the Blood Well Human Brain while jotting notes on a piece of paper.
Zhou Xuan caught a glimpse of the paper—it read, in messy scrawling handwriting, "Born in Qiye Temple, Old Sacr—"
Just as Wang Yiweng was entirely engrossed in recording "experimental results," a pool of water suddenly seeped into the room, entering through the gap beneath the door.
The water streamed to Wang Yiweng’s feet, where suddenly, a pair of hands emerged from the pool, followed by the upper half of a woman’s body. Rising fluidly from the puddle, she stood, her right hand plunging into Wang Yiweng’s back and emerging from his chest...
The killer—a woman—wore a white lab coat. Her hunched back was marked by a massive, hump-like tumor.
Her right hand, as sharp as a blade, shredded Wang Yiweng’s heart. Afterward, she pressed her mouth to the Brain Tank, kissing "Hunger" through the glass, then reached out to grasp the Blood Well Human Brain.
The Human Brain, sensing the grave threat, unleashed an ear-piercing, ferocious wail. The woman clutched her ears in agony but couldn’t block the noise.
She collapsed to her knees, overcome by madness, raking her fingernails across her own face.
Streaks of blood appeared, as her face was torn to ribbons of flesh and blood.
The tumor on her back convulsed violently as if reacting to her distress, writhing and struggling incessantly.
As the struggle intensified, the tumor’s surface broke apart like an incubated egg splitting open. Hundreds of small, white serpents slithered out, wriggling their way into Wang Yiweng’s mouth. Within moments, a massive tumor swelled across Wang Yiweng’s back!
The tumor seized control of Wang Yiweng, forcing him to pick up a quartz clock and bash the deranged woman to death with repeated blows.
Killing her wasn’t enough—Wang Yiweng, still under the tumor’s influence, grabbed a scalpel and meticulously dismembered her into thousands of fragments.
Once the grisly task was done, Wang Yiweng, now wielded by the tumor, retrieved "Hunger" and disappeared with it into the pool of water on the floor.
Even the woman’s soul, along with some fragments of flesh, was absorbed into that water.
When the water vanished, Wang Yiweng and the tumor had also disappeared without a trace...
...
"Bang!"
Zhou Xuan shattered the temporal rift with a punch and returned to the present-day research institute.
