Chapter 177: Chapter 155 Obsession "Imminent Death
Liu Jinmin savored the life force within the cremains, his speech turning wild and erratic, even indulging in fanciful daydreams.
"The Life God will one day become a true Heavenly God, and I, who keeps providing him with sacrifices, will also become a God, hahaha, a God, a God living in the heavens..."
"Dream on, you wish."
Zhou Xuan heard everything clearly; Liu Jinmin was indeed a follower of the Evil God, that Evil God called "Life God."
"Looks like I might actually get something tonight."
From Liu Jinmin’s delirious monologue, it appeared that many of the Life God’s followers did not willingly offer sacrifices but were controlled by the Life God through deception and kidnapping, by the likes of Liu Jinmin’s "feet."
Such "followers" were not few in number; all were wronged souls, very likely forming an obsession.
"Does Liu Jinmin know where the Life God is hiding?"
Zhou Xuan faced two options: to barge into the house right now, subdue Liu Jinmin, and interrogate him about the whereabouts of the Life God, or to continue tailing in hopes that Liu Jinmin would meet with the Life God.
Having contemplated the two options, Zhou Xuan made a swift decision, opting for the latter.
Charging inside to subdue Liu Jinmin would not be difficult, nor would forcing out the Life God’s whereabouts from his mouth.
However, being a follower of the Evil God, he must have been linked by the Evil God.
Li Chengfeng once said that since the Evil God’s incense offerings could not compare with the True God’s, they were very particular about efficiency—ensnaring a follower tightly, refusing to let go until squeezing out the last bit of value.
Given such a tight link, it was likely that the moment Zhou Xuan extracted the Life God’s hideout from Liu Jinmin’s mouth, the Life God himself would be aware instantly, either laying out an ambush, waiting for Zhou Xuan to walk into the trap, or fleeing immediately. By the time Zhou Xuan arrived at the Life God’s hideout, the place would already be empty.
But then waiting for Liu Jinmin—would this beast simply fall asleep and then wake up to attend his mother’s funeral, making it all a wasted effort?
Zhou Xuan felt that this probability was not very high. At the mourning hall, he had observed carefully,
Liu Jinmin’s red booklet was not carried on his person at all times, such as when chatting with the lady boss across the street, he would place the small booklet inside a wooden cabinet in the hall.
Yet when he entered this room to inhale cremains, he brought the red booklet with him... Afraid the booklet might be stolen? Who would steal a tattered booklet filled with names.
Zhou Xuan speculated that he was probably going to meet with the Life God to deliver the names, and all he had to do was wait.
But the reversal came extremely quickly,
Liu Jinmin barely finished a pipe’s worth of cremains, no longer emitting yellow smoke, when he started snoring.
"Did he really fall asleep?" Zhou Xuan was slightly taken aback.
He immediately took out his pocket watch and checked the time: half-past eleven at night.
...
"Fifth Senior Brother." Zhou Xuan returned under the streetlight.
"How’d it go?" Lv Mingkun asked.
Zhou Xuan recounted everything about Liu Jinmin, and Lv Mingkun could hardly believe his ears.
"Liu Jinmin is such a beast? Sacrificing his son and old mother to the Life God?"
"Believing in an Evil God, what good could he be? He even set a trap for me and Lao Yang tonight; I signed with two fake names."
"So what do we do next?"
"Wait! If he’s not awake by 1 AM, we’ll first return home. This so-called Life God, we must drag him out."
Zhou Xuan said.
"Then let’s wait." Lv Mingkun accompanied Zhou Xuan.
Standing too long under the streetlight was conspicuous, so they moved somewhere else.
Opposite Liu Jinmin’s cottage was a small porridge shop, which also sold stir-fries, tea, and marinated dishes. Despite the late hour, there were still customers clinking glasses, chatting, and drinking.
Zhou Xuan ordered a plate of marinated intestines, a pot of Iron Goddess tea, and two dishes of cold vegetables, eating and drinking with Lv Mingkun while they waited.
By twelve forty, Liu Jinmin’s house door opened, and he seemed much more spirited. After a big stretch, he continued walking west.
Zhou Xuan and Lv Mingkun quickly followed behind.
Further west was Stadium Road, which aside from the stadium, is lined with churches.
There were both large and small churches, with the largest called Saint Luo Church, stretching along the street with a long, white, low boundary wall, and an iron gate where the church’s name was cut out on the arched iron frame above.
The membership threshold for Saint Luo Church was very high, not welcoming anyone other than dignitaries and the wealthy.
Some privately built smaller churches were open to the common people, but these churches were not well constructed, with better ones built in semblance of a church, small and low, fitting about a dozen long tables in the worship hall,
The poorly regulated ones simply held worship in residential houses, hanging a sign at the entrance—so-and-so Church.
Liu Jinmin entered one such church, a residential house without even a sign, just four crookedly painted red characters on the door, "True Destiny Church."
Liu Jinmin knocked on the church’s door, and it opened.
A skinny tall man with curled fake hair walked out, dressed in a black robe, touching his left and right chest with a point, then forehead and the center of the chest, after which he used a poor accent to tell Liu Jinmin, "Life God be with you."
This skinny tall man at a glance was from Jing Country, yet imitating a Westerner’s poor accent.
Zhou Xuan, monitoring Liu Jinmin’s movements with his Perception, almost laughed out loud.
The Evil God propagating through a fake Westerner, a fake Westerner mimicking a Westerner speaking Jing Country language, quite humorous.
"Life God eternally!"
Liu Jinmin knelt on his knees, his gaze full of devotion.
The skinny tall man held a porcelain bottle, poured some water into his hand, made a fist to let his fingers dip into the water, then flicked water from his fingertips onto Liu Jinmin’s forehead.
