Vows and Bullets -
Chapter 92: A Little Bothered
Chapter 92: A Little Bothered
My face immediately grimaced when I saw it—a champagne-colored dress with a V-neck design that was a little too low for me, and the back was in the same V shape, just deeper than the front, reaching up to the... well, near the buttocks.
"Who in the world would wear this kind of dress at a kid’s birthday party? Ugh," I groaned at the ridiculousness of the matter. "It’s basically backless and ALMOST frontless! All the cloth are on the sides and the skirt! I can’t believe my stylist even added this to the list of choices. Ughhhh... what a headache."
Eun-Woo grabbed the phone off my hands to see it for himself, and he laughed afterward—while driving.
"Hey! Eyes on the road!" I reprimanded him and took the phone back.
"THAT is one sexy dress," he chuckled. "I wouldn’t mind seeing you on that—though maybe not at a party. Other men might gawk at you."
"There’s no way I’m wearing this be it at a party or anywhere—NEVER," I grunted and rolled my eyes. Scrolling through the pictures again, I muttered, "Seriously... what is happening to the world? Fashion just keeps on getting more liberated."
"Your stylist is just choosing dresses that would look good on you. Perhaps, she’s simply admiring the beauty of your body and wants to highlight your assets—that, plus the public image that you’re supposed to have."
"I told her many times I prefer comfortable clothes and those that are NOT revealing. Having an image of a pampered wife doesn’t mean wearing sexy dresses all the time. Is it because I’m not old money, so she thinks I got a husband by flirting and using my body? That’s what usually happens in movies, right? Is that why she thinks that way? But that’s stereotyping. One, for the man’s part—as if all men just fall for looks and sexiness, though maybe most are, but not everyone. Two, for the woman—as if women who marry rich men is just because they used their body assets instead of having brains and skills. Can’t that be the case? And besides, we’re not... Ugh. Why am I even thinking about this?"
I slumped my back at the backrest of the seat, raised my legs, and hugged them as I continued browsing through my phone. I rambled on and on but... why was I even bothered by that? It’s just an image. It’s not me. They could write or think all the nasty stuff about me, but I shouldn’t care. Besides, I’m only doing it for the mission.
’Haaah... Who am I kidding? It bothers me, and that’s the truth, just like those nasty glances earlier and the stuff they say online—the news, everything. I wasn’t used to being in the spotlight, and now that I am, thanks to this mission and that publicity we had to do, it’s making me recall what I experienced in my childhood...
’That time, my classmates kept calling me names—daughter of a criminal and all that sh*t...
’That time I got bullied, ostracized, and everyone kept on inventing one story after another about me and my family...
’Even if all of them weren’t true... still, it hurts a lot when people just throw damaging words at you. They speak from an opinion they crafted themselves from a tiny piece of information they got without any pretext and use it against you, giving birth to more lies until... everybody believes in the lie more than the truth.
’Haah... Am I finally getting pent up with all this nonsense? It’s only been what? A month since that publicity? I shouldn’t let this get into me. I should be stronger.
’That’s right, Kim Ye-Ji. This is nothing. Don’t mind them. They know nothing. You know more, and you know yourself. You’re not like that. You’re not a slut or a whore. You’re a virgin for Pete’s sake! You suck at flirting, so how would you seduce anyone? And Eun-Woo is... you don’t like him. You’re not really husband and wife, so technically, they’re all wrong. Yeah... so why are you bothered?’
Screeeeech...
The car suddenly stopped at the sideway. I turned to my left to check why Eun-Woo stopped, only to see him removing his seatbelt and mine. Then, he pulled me towards him and hugged me. He even caressed my head—just like what he did earlier.
"What’s wrong, my dear wife? Are you feeling sad? Come on, you can tell this kind husband what’s bothering you," he said in a teasing way, probably trying to make light of the matter.
Was my face showing too much emotion again? I thought I was on my usual poker face the whole time!
"Stop it," I said, catching his hand and making him stop patting my head. "I’m not sad. And don’t just pull over wherever you please. Get back to driving."
"Ehhh... but I don’t like seeing my dear wife lonely."
"I said I’m not lonely."
"I’ll fire your stylist and hire a new one. What’s the use of a servant who upsets my wife?"
He took out his phone from his pocket and started dialing the number of my stylist.
"Hey! Don’t do that! You can’t just fire her just because I got a little upset!" I snapped at him and tried to snatch his phone.
"See? You were upset."
Ugh! This cunning devil! He used it to trick me into saying that!
"No—it’s not because of her. It’s... Ughhh."
"Go on, tell me. Don’t be shy. You should be fair. When you ask me something, I answer you truthfully. And even if I can’t answer you, I tell you the truth that it’s private. It’s only fair that you tell me what you can, right?"
"Urgh, fine."
And so, I told him everything that was bothering me—from me not being used to being in the spotlight up to those nasty remarks that somehow... bothered me a little.
"I see. You should have said so from the start. I can fix that easily," he said as his eyes looked gently at me.
Look at him acting like the perfect caring husband even if we were alone. He didn’t need to do that.
"It’s alright. I can do it myself. You don’t have to—"
"Ye-Ji’ya."
His deep voice calling my name so sweetly like that... somehow sent shivers throughout my body.
"I told you," he continued, "you should take advantage of me. After all, I am legally your husband...
"What’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is mine—including the pain."
