Chapter 55: Disgusting
Chapter 55: Disgusting
***
[Agent Helios POV]
[Back at the restaurant when Ma-Ri Choi tried to flirt with him...]
"She has been eyeing us since earlier," I said to my partner softly, in a way only the two of us could hear. "A little more push, and we can finally get our chance."
"Yeah, so let’s just continue what we’re doing."
"Uhm."
Though we acted like a romantic couple, the heavy atmosphere between us was still evident. Haah... I said too much last night that I made her cry. I shouldn’t have done that. To make this partnership last, we should work together with full cooperation. It’s a good thing that she works professionally and still kept our act despite her feelings, but something superficial like this won’t last long.
Apart from that, there was another thing that had been bugging my heart since last night. There was this incomprehensible stinging pain in my heart—as if multiple needles were pricking me.
’She didn’t poison me, did she?’
No. That’s impossible. Even if she tried to do that, I would have been awakened last night if she had tried to sneak into my room to poison me. Besides, I’m mostly resilient to poison, so she wouldn’t try that approach if she wanted to get back at me.
I tried checking my physical status using my smartwatch from Mythos, but it found nothing amiss. I did the same using my brooch, my phone, and even the suit that had the most sensitive sensor, but they found nothing wrong with my physical condition.
’If so, why was I feeling like that? Don’t tell me... Was I bothered by her tears? Ha-ha-ha. That’s funny. There’s no way I will feel like that towards her. I did feel sorry for her when she broke down during our wedding for I don’t know what reason. But that’s it.’
Yeah. This was probably mental stress from all the tiring things we have done lately. It should go away in time.
"Eun-Woo’ya," Agent Selene called me, distracting me from my thoughts. "Excuse me for a moment. I’ll be right back."
"Hm? Yeah, sure."
She then got up and walked away, probably to the washroom. Meanwhile, I put down my utensils and drank my wine. I wanted to drop the act and stop smiling in a fake manner, but I had to act happy and in love. After all, we’re supposed to be newlyweds and on our honeymoon. This phase in marriage was usually the most blissful one, so I should keep acting flawlessly, especially when there were lots of hidden reporters around.
While taking a sip on my goblet, loud footsteps suddenly came near me. It was the sound of a woman’s heels on a carpeted floor. Hm. Could it be our target?
"Fancy seeing you here, Mr. Jeon Eun-Woo," a woman’s voice greeted me from the side of our table.
As I expected, it really was Ma-Ri Choi. Her tone was raised in an irritating pitch, and she kept blinking her eyes, probably trying to appeal to me with her beauty. She was a little charming from a man’s perspective, yes. But if it’s beauty, Agent Selene was still better—a natural beauty with no need for make-up to enhance her looks. She looked innocent as a sheep, but a dangerous tiger lived inside her. Ha-ha. How amusing.
’Wait a moment. Why am I even comparing them? Ugh. What’s wrong with my brain today?’
Turning my head towards Ms. Choi, I politely greeted her back.
"The same goes for me, Ms. Choi, am I correct?"
"Oh, you know me? How flattering," she chuckled.
Then, she extended her hands to me as if she wanted me to kiss them.
’Ugh. Disgusting. Is she trying to act like some medieval noble or princess by doing this? Or does she want me to kiss her that badly? How gross.’
Not wanting to do it the way she wanted, I shook her hand briefly instead.
"I knew you from your father, Mr. Choi. He told me about you from the few times we met and apologized on your behalf when you didn’t come to my and my wife’s wedding."
"Oh my, I truly am so sorry about that," she replied, acting dramatically as she walked towards the seat in front of me and rudely sat down.
I did expect her to approach me—that was what we had been waiting for since the beginning—but I didn’t think she would do it this soon. Still, it’s an opportunity, so fine, I would let you sit there for a little while. Otherwise, that’s my wife’s seat, and you shouldn’t even be there. Ugh. The reporters would surely write about this.
For some reason, I got angry seeing her sit in front of me. Then, she continued yapping her apology and the thousand reasons why she couldn’t be there. I simply let them pass on my ears since I knew they were a bunch of lies. After her long speech, I smiled politely and replied.
"It’s alright, Ms. Choi. We understand."
"Thank you," she smiled and blinked her eyes once again. "I knew you’re such an understanding man."
"It’s nothing," I smiled. Trying to get to my purpose, I asked, "By the way, how is your father doing? He seemed busy the last time we met, but he still spared time to attend our wedding. I’m wondering if there’s anything he needs help with. Perhaps, I could ask my father for a favor."
Hearing my question, her lips curved into a mischievous smirk. She’s probably thinking of taking this opportunity to ask me out.
"Now that you mention it, he did seem tired when I called him last night. But I’m afraid I can’t discuss the details here." Switching to a naughty whisper, she continued, "It’s a little private."
I knew it. Now, it’s time to reel her in further and make her ask me out so we can talk in private. That way, I could extract more information without the prying eyes of the reporters. And to reel her in, I have to say the opposite of what I wanted to happen so she would offer me the contrary of what I said.
"I see. Of course, I understand. There is no need to discuss it with—"
"No, that’s not what I meant at all!" she exclaimed. "I can definitely discuss it with you. The Jeon family is like a good friend of ours."
Gotcha. Go on. Ask me out now.
"Having said that," she continued, "why don’t we talk about it over tea? In my suite?"
She replied in the most seductive way she could and even dared to touch my hand in the process.
’Ugh. How revolting. These kinds of women are what I hate the most. Disgusting! And sadly, almost every one of them I met was the same as this woman. No wonder I never liked a single one of them.’
My stomach started to churn the moment she lewdly brushed her hand on the back of mine. Memories of the many other women who tried to flirt with me in the past rushed into my brain, making me want to puke.
From those unpleasant memories, one of them even had the audacity to undress in front of me and do shameful acts. And there was another who kept clinging to me and wanted to touch my private parts! Truly disgusting! It’s a good thing I’m a properly trained agent, and I could get away from them but still... this sickening feeling... Ughhhh.
I quickly pulled my hand away and rubbed it on the table napkin on my lap. I wanted to wipe away the nauseating feeling as soon as possible.
Although this kind of behavior was to be expected, given we did our best to seduce her, still, having to experience this was very detestable. But I had to do it for the mission. After all, there’s no way my partner, Agent Selene, would be able to get to her good side unless she acted promiscuously like her.
Most of Ms. Choi’s friends had the same hobby as her. She only accepted the same kind of women in her circle. And there was no way Agent Selene would do such a thing. She even cried when I mentioned the possibility of sex to her. Because of that, this was the only way to garner the attention of this maddening woman.
"A tea would be nice, Ms. Choi," I accepted her invitation. "Would you mind if I bring my wife with me?"
"There’s no need to trouble her. Let her have a moment with herself and relax."
Suddenly, I felt a foot brushing off my legs from underneath the table.
’What the f*ck! The audacity of this woman!’
"As for you... don’t worry. I always make sure to take good care of my guests."
I quickly pulled my legs away. My fake smile was gone. I couldn’t contain my disgust, and I glared at her. I know I shouldn’t act like this, but for some reason, I couldn’t control my emotions.
’Ugh. Eun-Woo, get a hold of yourself! You have to do this for the mission and for your goal! You haven’t extracted the information you need. You can’t be on her bad side yet. Just relax and take it in for now.’
I breathed in deeply, trying to calm myself, but it didn’t help.
’Ugh. F*ck this. What should I do now?’
It’s been a while since I was at a loss of what to do. For some reason, this day was turning for the worst. I hate this.
Just as when my emotions started to turn into a mess inside my head, a familiar voice saved me from my distress.
"Oh, who do we have here?"
It was the soothing voice of my partner and my wife... Agent Selene.
