Chapter 166: 3rd week of September (Part 5)

Please DON’T READ this Chapter yet. I will update this 3rd week of September!

Good news! My hands have healed now and I’m catching up on writing my missed Chapters. My apologies for all the delays. I will replace this Chapter with the real one soon, don’t worry, and upload a new one for the next day. I really apologize once again.

In the meantime, please enjoy the continuation of the story below titled "The King’s Beloved". This is the revised version I am planning to submit for paperback publication. Hopefully, I get a chance someday.

(Part 29 - Continuation...)

"Yeah, fairies are those bigger ones and older ones," continued the other. Their voices were so cute and their tiny faces made amusing expressions.

Rania couldn’t help but chuckle at them as she watched them speak in turns. They were just too adorable. As she listened to their stories that gave birth to another as soon as the other finished speaking, she grabbed a handkerchief in her pocket and used the knife she had to cut a small piece of it—she made sure to bring some things she thought would be useful. Then, she gave that small piece of cloth for the sprites to use as a bandage to the injured one. They were adamant on taking it until one of them stood up and approached her bravely.

She was the tallest and most different among all of them—around six inches in height, and the most beautiful one as well, with long and wavy platinum silver hair and golden eyes, wearing pink petals as her dress. She approached Rania carefully until her hands touched her forefinger. As if trying to feel something, she looked serious for a moment, gasped, and gleamed brightfully afterwards. The other sprites celebrated with her for some reason, and they all started to close their gap to her. Their adamant behavior was no more, and they took her mini handkerchief to bandage the injured one.

Did she read my mind? Rania thought.

The silver haired sprite introduced herself afterwards.

"Human, my name is Luna, and I am the leader of this pack of sprites. What is your name?" she talked with her child-like yet confident, and sweet little voice.

"What leader? I am the leader!" another sprite disagreed with her.

"No—I am!"

"Shuuush! I am trying to ask the human her name, so zip it!"

Rania chuckled once again. "My name is Rania. Nice to meet you, Luna, and your group of friends."

As soon as she finished her words, all the other twenty, or was it thirty sprites—it was hard to tell as they kept circling and flying all around—started to introduce themselves as well by telling their names. Their tiny chuckles turned rowdier by the minute. Until suddenly, they heard a loud noise from afar.

"AWOOOOOH!"

The howl echoed through the whole forest. It was so loud they had to cover their ears or they would end up deaf.

"It’s a lupus! A lupus! RUN!" Luna screamed and they hurriedly flew away to safety.

Luna gestured her tiny hands to Rania, telling her to follow them. As she did, she noticed the little sprites’ horrified expressions. She tried to look back while running and saw that the lupus—as Luna addressed it—was only as big as a normal dog. Thinking she could use her height advantage, she decided to distract it and make sure it wouldn’t end up hurting the sprites. Since she was bigger than the lupus, she should at least be able to fight back.

And so, Rania distracted the huge wolf-looking creature and taunted it to follow her. What she didn’t expect was how fast it ran. It didn’t even take a few seconds for it to close the gap between them!

"Haah... Haah..." Rania breathed heavily as she continued to run as fast as she could. With a strike of luck, she saw a tall tree from afar. She immediately dashed towards it and climbed as swiftly as she could. The lupus snapped its jaws barely missing her heels as she dashed up the tree. Good thing it didn’t know how to fly or else, it would have been an entirely different story.

The lupus snarled as it laid in wait for her. Its big and sharp teeth gritted each other.

"Gggrrrrrr..."

Seeing Rania’s bravery and courage to sacrifice for them—for creatures that she just met—the sprites were touched from the bottom of their hearts. Their adorable faces bawled and cried as they convinced themselves to help her in return for her kindness. Even if they were scared, Luna led them and decided to combine their powers to cast a spell on the lupus. Sprites were way too weak to defeat a lupus but if they combined their powers, Luna thought they might stand a chance.

Gathering around, the sprites held hands to fuse all the spiritual energy they had. Little by little, a small glowing light formed in the midst of them, ready to fire at any moment. It helped that the lupus was mainly focused on Rania, so it was easy for them to aim. Knowing that their energy wasn’t enough to injure a lupus badly, they decided to cast a shrinking magic instead.

"1, 2, 3, Go!" Luna signaled and the ball of light went straight towards the lupus’ body.

The lupus felt magic run through its body, and changed its aim to the little sprites. Seeing them hiding from the bushes, he ran angrily towards them and tried to chomp them off until—

POOF!

The lupus suddenly shrank.

"Phew!" the sprites all sighed in relief. Then, they laughed at each other.

"Haahh... That was scary," Rania said as she carefully climbed down the tree.

"It was! Did you see what we did?"

"Did you see? Did you see?"

"Yes, I did. Great job to all of you. And thank you very much for saving me."

"Awwwww..." they giggled and acted shy.

"It’s nothing."

"No worries."

"You helped us too, so we’re only helping back."

"Ha-ha-ha. But before we end up chatting again, let’s get out of here first. Or else, we might get targeted again."

Unbeknownst to them, the lupus that the sprites shrank a moment ago, managed to undo the magic and returned back to its original size! With their backs towards the huge wolf, they didn’t notice it until—
