Chapter 54. Special Physique
Chapter 54: 54. Special Physique
This was true enlightenment of the way of the sword engraved into Licht’s very being through illusion and sheer will.
It was so mystical that by the time Licht exited from that trance-like state, the bell had already rung and class was being dismissed.
Licht had to take a few moments to get himself together and adjust to the present, and after doing so, he pulled out his phone to check his schedule as he made his way to the next lecture.
But as he turned the corner, A familiar figure appeared in the hallway, one he hadn’t expected to see again so soon.
"Riven?"
The figure heard Licht’s call and froze up and tried to dodge, but Licht wouldn’t let up so easily
"Riven? It’s you, right?"
Licht’s eyes suddenly narrowed as his voice grew cold "Come here."
After saying this, Licht was prepared for Riven to snap and break out into another brawl, so he was greatly surprised when Riven obediently stepped forward.
But something was... off.
This clearly wasn’t the same Riven who had fought him yesterday. That Riven was a wild and rabid mad dog who would bite down on you even if you shattered his jaw. But the boy standing before him now was completely different. Instead of a mad dog, he looked more like a timid barn mouse!
"You..." Licht frowned. "Why are you so different?"
When Licht asked this question, Riven lowered his head, almost like he couldn’t meet Licht’s gaze.
"I’m truly sorry about yesterday. I wasn’t in my right mind. I lost control... and caused a huge mess."
Licht scoffed.
He wanted to be angry, but as he looked at Riven’s trembling fingers and his flushed, embarrassed expression, the rage within him dulled.
Thinking about it, Licht realises that Riven wasn’t normal that day after he started using his technique.
Even Licht himself wasn’t spared from the techniques’ side effects, and started moving more feral and vicious after he copied Riven’s technique. It was only after he activated his dragon soul that he partially regained his sanity and snapped out of it.
『Blood Mana Style – Crimson Frenzy 』
There was obviously something going on with the technique, so Licht looked at Riven and carefully asked.
"...Where did you get that technique that you used from?"
Riven paused. "I... I’m not sure."
"I was scavenging through trash in the slums when I found a crumpled scroll. It looked incomplete, half-burned. I thought it was just some discarded C- or D-grade manual. I figured someone tried to fix it up and failed. I didn’t expect it to actually work."
Riven gave a hollow laugh.
"At first, I thought the technique was strong but only a little strange, but eventually the technique just... it just took over."
Licht said nothing and just thought about Riven’s words
A-grade techniques weren’t something you found in the garbage. They were locked in family vaults, traded in shadowy backrooms, and protected by blood oaths. Saying you stumbled on one was like saying you accidentally discovered a ballistic missile in a junkyard.
It just didn’t make sense.
But then again... neither did Riven’s descent into madness. Blood Mana Style technique was one of the most vicious and cruel techniques Licht had observed with his infinite eyes
It mixed with a person’s mana and ignites it like a furnace, burning a person’s blood and vitality to strengthen the user
Looking back, Licht remembered something else strange about Riven.
That kid had bled a ridiculous amount of blood during their fight. Anyone else would’ve died and yet, even while gushing blood like a broken faucet, Riven had kept coming. It was too absurd to ignore.
Which could only mean one thing.
A Special Physique.
Special physiques weren’t unheard of; in fact, the Valtier family had entire research divisions dedicated to cataloging and awakening them. And as someone who had played 「The Saviour of the SlayerAcademy」 , Licht knew better than anyone how rare, game-changing special physiques could be. They acted as character-defining traits and often were the foundation for unique character routes.
"Riven," Licht said slowly. "You have a special physique."
"P-pardon?" Riven blinked.
"It’s called the Boundless Blood Body. You might’ve noticed by now, but you bleed a lot. Way more than normal. That’s probably why you’re so scrawny, too. A huge chunk of your body’s resources are going into blood production instead of physical growth."
Licht folded his arms. "That’s also why you don’t go down easily. Even though your pure defense stat isn’t especially high, your body endures by sheer volume. It’s like having a health bar ten times longer than it should be."
"So... does that mean I’m strong?" Riven asked, hopeful.
"It means," Licht said flatly, "you get beaten up longer and bleed a lot more before you fall."
Riven’s face sank. "That sounds completely useless..."
"Normally, it would be." Licht shrugged. "But then you found that strange technique."
Riven blinked.
"The one that fuses mana and blood. It aggravates your emotions, distorts your personality. But since you have so much blood to burn, it doesn’t overload your body. It blends with your physique and awakens... something else. A secondary personality."
"So what?" Riven asked bitterly. "I just bleed more and go crazy slower? That’s my great special trait?"
"It would’ve been a flaw," Licht admitted. "If you didn’t find that technique."
He stepped closer.
"But now... the two match. The Boundless Blood Body and that technique amplify each other. That’s why it triggers a split personality — something born from instinct, combat, and bloodlust. You probably don’t even notice it fully when it takes over."
Riven clenched his jaw. "So... is there anything I can do about it?"
Riven frowned. "So... there’s nothing I can do about it?"
"There is," Licht said. "We’re heading to training class next. I’ll show you a way that could possibly stabilise it. It’s simple... but painful."
As he spoke, Licht was deep in thought.
Riven... was a character with potential.
「The Saviour of the Slayer Academy」was a brutal game. Licht had never even completed the game in the real world and knew it could only be more difficult now that the game was reality.
