Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Splurging

"Is... something wrong?" A young girl with platinum hair asked, watching as her friend suddenly froze, eyes widening as though something startling had just occurred.

The girl seated beside her—the one with pink hair—remained silent, still trying to recover from whatever sensation had just hit her.

"Anna!"

"H-huh?" Anna stuttered, her breathing coming in rough, ragged gasps. She swallowed hard and turned to find her friend staring with obvious concern.

"I-Isa?" she muttered, still disoriented.

"Yeah, me. So what happened? You just stopped talking mid-sentence," Isa frowned, tilting her head as she studied her friend intently.

That feeling... it was definitely him. But why is he using my ability? Anna wondered, instinctively pulling the extra-long sleeves of her pink fluffy sweater to cover the slave mark on her hand.

Both girls were still dressed in their Academy uniforms: crisp white shirts, short sleeves, and black skirts that were... well, let’s just say they were designed by someone who clearly understood the power of distraction. The skirts weren’t too short, but they were certainly effective at making any red-blooded male forget whatever they’d been thinking about.

Anna wore long black socks from her knees down to her white shoes, leaving just a glimpse of smooth, fair thigh—an undeniably enticing sight. Her shirt wasn’t fully buttoned, revealing a tasteful hint of the white undershirt beneath. Over this, she wore her pink sweater, lightweight enough for the moderate weather that leaned just slightly more toward cool than warm. Her long pink hair flowed freely, styled in the front where some strands were clipped back with a delicate pink butterfly accessory, framing her face perfectly.

"It’s nothing," Anna said after a lengthy pause.

Isa wasn’t buying it for a second. "If only I were stupid, I’d believe that. Too bad I’m not."

Isa’s outfit differed slightly from Anna’s. Instead of long socks, she wore sleek black tights and more feminine shoes polished to black perfection. Her white furry sweater also featured those ridiculously long sleeves that completely covered her hands, and she wore white gloves underneath—though honestly, even the author wasn’t entirely sure why. Perhaps she just had a thing for gloves. Like Anna, her shirt was unbuttoned just enough to be interesting without being scandalous, offering a subtle hint of cleavage. She wore oversized glasses that made her face appear delicate and small, though the lenses were clear, so her features remained perfectly visible. Her platinum hair was tied in a ponytail and rolled into an elegant bun, secured with a silver dragonfly clip adorned with blue diamonds at the head and center.

"What?!" Anna suddenly exclaimed, her eyes widening as she stared at Isa in sheer disbelief.

"W-what happened?" Isa immediately touched her face, fearing something must be wrong.

"So you’re not stupid?" Anna asked with complete incredulity.

A visible vein popped on Isa’s forehead as she realized what had just happened. "Of course I’m not!" She nudged her friend—perhaps a bit too enthusiastically—sending Anna tumbling onto the free space of the couch they’d been sharing. Anna immediately burst into laughter, successfully derailing the original conversation.

"Annoying idiot," Isa muttered, then suddenly smirked with mischievous intent.

"Wait, Isa, you demon... don’t—!" Anna tried to flee, but her vengeful friend had already found her weak spot. Soon Anna was laughing so hard her chest ached.

"Miss?" came a voice that made Isa immediately stop her assault, returning to her composed, noble demeanor in a split second.

"Yes?" she responded, looking at the young shopkeeper who, though trying to appear professional, was obviously affected by witnessing such beautiful girls acting so... un-nobly.

"Cough. It’s ready," he managed.

"Ugh, you bitch," Anna cursed—language that wasn’t at all foreign to Isa’s ears.

On a normal day, Anna was as noble and eloquent as any princess. But when something got on her nerves, she instantly transformed into... well, a complete delinquent.

"Miss?" the young man spoke again, clearly uncertain how to handle the situation.

"Just bring the damn thing here," Anna said, holding her stomach, which was still aching from laughing so hard.

"Language, Anna! At least try to be decent in public. You’re an heiress, for goodness’ sake," Isa said in an exasperated tone.

"Yeah, screw you and the public. Don’t think I won’t get you back—oh, I will," Anna replied, straightening her outfit and pushing her hair to the left. She stood up and walked toward the counter with renewed dignity.

"Sure... but can you at least tell me what you need a cauldron for?" Isa asked the question that had been bothering her all along. What did Anna, a perfectly modern mage, need with a cauldron that looked older than her grandmother? No one used cauldrons anymore—this wasn’t the damn medieval age!

"For... a friend," Anna smiled mysteriously.

"That same friend we’re supposed to meet?"

"Yeah, who else?" Anna said, picking up the ancient-looking pot—and it was indeed a weird-looking pot—then passed her card to the cashier.

"Wait," Isa interrupted, looking at the cashier with sudden suspicion.

"Yes?" the lady who had collected the card replied.

"How much is it?"

"Oh, just 5,000 points."

"WHAT?! FOR A POT?!" Isa demanded. Who were these daylight robbers?

"Miss, it’s not ’just a pot,’ but a historical relic that—"

"Yeah, yeah, just get it over with," Anna waved dismissively, clearly not in the mood for a lecture.

"...Sure." The cashier inserted the card into the payment device and handed it to Anna to input her PIN. After the transaction completed, Anna stored the little cauldron in her spatial ring and grabbed Isa’s hand, heading for the exit.

"What in the name of the gods did you just do?" Isa asked in complete disbelief.

"Forget it. Let’s head back to the academy."

At this point, Isa was developing a decidedly bad feeling about this mysterious ’friend’ of Anna’s.
