Chapter 37: Her Name
Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Her Name
"Lunch time is 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Roll call starts at 6:00 PM, so you should be at the dormitory before then or risk being penalized. School activities start around 3-4 PM and can change based on the day’s schedule. Classes start at 8:00 AM on the dot—endeavor not to be late, as the professors are not very tolerant of tardy behavior. Also, breakfast is served at 7:20 AM in the cafeteria, dinner at 5:00 PM. If you miss these times, you would have to buy your own food with points."
She paused to flip through several pages of official documents before continuing. "For now, you can’t have an ID card since your registration is still being processed, so you have no points at the moment. As for the various class activities of the day, you can refer to the class representative of whatever class you’ll be assigned to for proper explanation. You would be admitted straight to year three—the competition there is fierce. Since you have no memories, as you just explained, you probably have zero ways to defend yourself. I would advise you not to antagonize anyone. As much as the authorities will intervene to prevent a student from being critically injured, they will only act at THAT critical level. After all, students are trained to be independent."
She adjusted her glasses and consulted another sheet. "Now, your dormitory assignment would be Room 124. Endeavor to respect yourself and not antagonize your roommate. The dormitory building you would be staying in is the Platinum Dorm—you can ask for directions once you leave here."
After this lengthy explanation of things I already knew, she closed a thick leather-bound book with a definitive thud. "Your measurements have been taken, so your uniform would be sent to your dormitory before the end of today. And also..." Her expression grew more serious. "Try your best to keep the position you are in. It’s the position of student Azalea, and it’s the reason you would experience elite privileges. The moment you drop from the rankings, your dorm room would be changed to a lower-tier and more cramped place, where you would have two to three roommates. So try as much as possible to retain your current position and not get knocked out—for a pleasurable stay at the academy, that is."
Her voice took on a warning tone. "Also, avoid duels as much as possible. Interference in duels is not tolerated, and chances of death exist..." She paused, then took a well-deserved breath. Damn, she needed it after that marathon explanation.
"You okay?" I asked with feigned concern, noting how she seemed slightly winded.
"...Yes, you may leave," she responded quickly, her voice suddenly cold, though I noticed her cheeks had acquired a slight red tint.
"...Sure," I responded, but my eyes lingered on her blonde hair and blue eyes.
She reminded me of someone.
Emilia.
[Calm down,] I heard the entity’s voice, and I suddenly realized I was about to touch her face, my hand having moved almost unconsciously toward her.
"What... are you trying to do?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. I swear I could foresee my own death for some reason.
What just happened?
[I told you... your emotions are restrained, not completely sealed. Any major trigger can restore the related emotion.]
’...I know.’
[That aside, aren’t you supposed to be hating Emilia?]
’...’
’Sigh’
I quickly stepped back, creating distance between us.
"I... I am sorry..." I stammered, genuinely apprehensive for the first time in a while, if she attacks me now, no amount of thinking would save me.
"..." She remained silent, her piercing gaze studying me.
"Sigh, it’s your face," I said, resorting to honesty as I sensed that she didn’t accept the apology and was preparing to attack.
"My... face? What’s wrong with it?" she asked, touching her cheek to check if something was amiss.
"Nothing, it’s perfect," I said with what I hoped was a disarming smile. "It’s just that... it reminded me of someone," I added with deliberate melancholy in my voice.
[For some reason, you are portraying emotions much better now.]
’...I think so too.’
"...Sigh." She sighed audibly, and I could sense her ether calming slightly, the tension in the room lessening.
"Don’t try that again. I know how beautiful I am, and I have experienced countless pickup methods from snotty brats like you. I will not tolerate it next time," she said, looking deeply into my eyes with stern authority.
’...’
[.....]
’Wow, narcissistic much?’
[...I thought she fell for it.]
’I thought so too.’
"...I won’t," I said, then turned around to leave her office, eager to escape this increasingly uncomfortable situation.
"Wait," I heard her call out, and I paused at the doorway.
"Yes?" I replied, turning back reluctantly.
"What was her name?" she suddenly asked, and my eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected question.
[... Azalea,]
’...’
"Emilia," I said, and for the first time since all this began, I gave a genuine smile—though it held no warmth. "She was one messed up bitch," I said, my expression darkening as I recalled everything.
[AZALEA!]
’!’
Damn, what was that surge of feeling?
[You have to find a way to counter this... trigger. How much did she even traumatize you?]
’...Sigh.’
That’s all I could manage. Thinking about it would only trigger more unwanted emotions.
"...I see. What a coincidence—my name is Emilia," she said with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
[It’s official. You should avoid her at all costs.]
’...Agreed.’
Fate.
Of course.
There just had to be a hindrance, didn’t there?
"I see. I assure you... it wasn’t my intention if you feel like the insult was directed at you. She really was a bitch," I said, trying to maintain some semblance of diplomatic composure.
"Language, student Asher," she said, frowning with obvious disapproval.
"Fine, she was a whore," I corrected, "Now, I will take my leave."
I walked out briskly before she could stop me, not caring about the consequences of my rudeness.
SLAM!
[Avoid her at all costs. Her entire existence is a trigger.]
’Understood....’
[Good]
...Or rather.
I will make her disappear.
[... Also good]
