Chapter 76: Chapter 75: He has to go[GTG]

"Lyra?" Ryan’s voice cracked with surprise, his mind struggling to catch up with her impulsive outburst. But before he could react, her bossom pressed against his hands, and he could see clearly through the loosened panels of her training suit, sending a jolt through him.

He tore his gaze away as if burned, a surge of heat flooding his face.

The sterile environment of the VR chamber suddenly felt even more suffocating, charged with an unexpected tension. He hastily banished the lewd thoughts that threatened to erupt, shoving them deep into the recesses of his mind.

Lyra’s lips curved into a knowing smirk. She wasn’t oblivious to the direction of his stolen glance. "Yes, Ryan?" she purred, her voice dripping with amusement, the playful glint in her azure eyes a stark contrast to the seriousness of the situation.

"Coughs," Ryan stammered, his stoic facade fracturing under the weight of her intense gaze. "Can you please get off?"

She complied with a theatrical sigh, though not without lingering a touch longer than necessary, ensuring his eyes lingered on the tempting expanse of skin revealed by the torn seam. The physical contact, though brief, sent another jolt through him, a potent reminder of the confusing web of circumstances he found himself entangled in.

He scrambled out of the pod, blinking away the disorientation that clung to him like cobwebs. Glancing around, he found the other students in a similar state of bewildered disarray. A heavy premonition settled in his gut – why would the teachers leave them all alone like this? The unanswered question hung heavy in the air, thick with unspoken dread.

His own discomfort was magnified tenfold by the envious glares and muttered curses cast his way. Just a few days ago, he’d been entangled with the stunning Helen, and now fate, or perhaps a cruel twist of circumstance, had landed him in the arms of Lyra, the undisputed beauty and top-ranked student of the first years. She was every man’s fantasy, and his current situation was fueling a storm of resentment amongst his peers. He could practically feel the invisible barbs of jealousy prickling at him, a constant reminder of the fickle nature of popularity.

Steeling himself, Ryan finally managed to mask his emotions with a carefully constructed indifference. "Why’d you do that?" he asked, his voice deceptively calm, the question laced with a hint of suspicion.

Lyra feigned innocence, her eyes wide and doe-like. "What do you mean? Didn’t you accept Scarlet’s proposal?" A tremor of fear flickered behind the facade, quickly extinguished. She wasn’t entirely confident in her gamble, unsure if Ryan really would accept her company after all she did.

Ryan let out a humorless chuckle, the sound devoid of mirth. "Yeah, I did. But that’s not what I was asking." He decided to let the issue slide for now, more pressing matters demanded his attention.

A sharp pang of dread shot through him as he spotted the one person he desperately hoped wouldn’t witness this scene - Helen. But avoidance was a luxury he couldn’t afford. He had to face her sooner or later, and the sooner he addressed the elephant in the room, the better.

Helen’s expression was a carefully constructed mask of indifference, but Ryan, with his heightened awareness, could sense the turmoil brewing beneath the surface. He knew a fight brewing here would attract unwanted attention, potentially playing right into the hands of his enemies. This wasn’t the time for impulsive actions or public displays of... whatever this strange situation was.

"Let’s go," he muttered, his voice low and urgent. He reached out, his fingers brushing against the soft skin of Lyra’s hand. Before she could react, he intertwined their fingers, the gesture both surprising and oddly comforting. He needed a plan, and fast. Taking charge, he marched towards Helen, his jaw set in a determined line.

Lyra, momentarily speechless, felt a blush creep up her neck, a detail not missed by a certain observer lurking in the shadows – Lucas.

The unexpected turn of events left Lyra breathless, a whirlwind of confusion and a flicker of something else, something akin to... excitement? She wasn’t sure what to make of the situation, but one thing was certain – she loved this.

Ryan approached Helen, surprising her with his unexpected boldness. He didn’t stop there, though. To the onlookers astonishment, he reached out and grasped her hand, his grip firm yet gentle. Helen, thrown off balance by his brazen move, could only stare at him, speechless. His touch, domineering - yet his true intentions remained shrouded in mystery.

He didn’t explain himself, simply urging her forward with a determined glint in his eyes. Helen hesitated for a moment, her emotions a tangled mess of confusion, shock, and a flicker of something... else?

Ultimately, she allowed him to lead her, her mind racing to decipher the meaning behind his actions.

They reached the doorway. But before they could step through, a fiery redhead with blazing eyes materialized in their path, effectively blocking their escape. Scarlet, her face contorted in a furious scowl, glared daggers at Helen, particularly at the hand still firmly clasped in Ryan’s.

"What are you doing?" she spat, her voice laced with venom. The air crackled with tension, the playful facade from moments ago replaced with a chilling possessiveness.

"Let it go, Scarlet," Ryan countered, his voice surprisingly calm considering the volatile situation. "Come with us too. We need to go." His words were a cryptic plea, offering no explanation for his bizarre actions. The urgency in his voice, however, was undeniable, a stark contrast to the confusion swirling around them.

Ignoring Scarlet’s sputtering outrage, he walked out, and with a bit of hesitation, she followed after. The image of him, holding both Helen and Lyra, sent shockwaves through the remaining students. Murmurs of disbelief and envious whispers filled the chamber, a testament to the sheer audacity of the scene unfolding before them.

Lucas, hidden in the shadows, watched in stunned silence. His heart hammered against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat echoing the turmoil within him. Disbelief battled with a surge of unexpected possessiveness. Both Scarlet and Lyra, the objects of his affection, were being whisked away by Ryan, leaving him alone and utterly bewildered.

"What... What did I just see?" he muttered to himself, his voice barely a whisper. The carefully constructed facade he put up seemed to crumble around him, replaced by a chaotic reality he couldn’t begin to understand. One thing was certain – Ryan Evans had to go.
