Chapter 44: Chapter 44: I Cucked Who Now?![GTG]

*Click*

With a sharp clicking sound, the door of their dorm room swung open, and they both stepped out, appearing in the corridor.

Without further ado, they turned their heels and made their way towards the elevator at the far right corner of the corridor. As expected, they could see students loitering about with no sense of direction.

It was late noon now, and students who had nothing to do were trooping into the dormitory.

"So what exactly did you say is up with our current roommate?" Ryan asked, just to strike up a conversation.

"Bastard’s got plenty of points to throw around, I guess. He probably just felt too superior to us low ranks and couldn’t stand sharing a room, so... He rented one," Luke shrugged as casually as he spoke.

But Ryan, who was hearing this for the first time, had his interest piqued by this fact,

"Wait, You can rent a room?" Ryan asked.

"Well yeah! The academy makes provision for that. I mean you could literally live in a room which should only be reserved for high rankers, but that shit murders your finance you know," he clicked his tongue.

"Like you really gotta splurge big time. I heard some of those rooms charge a thousand a week, and the cheapest I hear is five hundred.... I mean, where the heck will broke ass weaklings like us, and I’m mincing words right now, like the lowest of the lowest rankers, who only get ten points a day, find such wealth?! ....Well, there are missions though, but... Nah, with classes and stuff I don’t think I can hold out," he said with a refusing shake of his head.

"But that shouldn’t apply to rich bastards, they should be able to afford it, or can’t they? I mean even if they are low rankers, they ARE rich bastards," Ryan asked, finding Luke’s explanation laughable.

"What? Pfft! Rich bastards my ass!" he laughed at his words, "The academy doesn’t make use of the general currency, and you’re stripped of any form of communication with the outside world once you’re in here. Well, some rich families do smuggle points in, but they probably won’t show it off to avoid garnering suspicions. The only way to really earn money here, which is points by the way, is to partake in missions, challenge an opponent and snag their points, or just make your way up the hierarchy. And just to be clear, the points those high rankings bastards snag a day are like comparing Caren to earth," he laughed on. Ryan had no idea what he meant by Caren, but his guts told him it was very far.

*Ping.*

With a sharp pinging sound resounding through the metallic confines, the doors of the elevator slid open, revealing the chaos beyond.

Right now, they were in the hallway, and Ryan could see students stealing glances at him, some looked shocked, others indifferent, and a few, horrified.

"Looks like I’m famous around here,"

"....Righhhhhhhhhhhht," Luke responded, averting his gaze.

Suddenly, someone brushed shoulders with Ryan, and when he turned around, he found a blond-haired guy with a golden set of eyes glaring at him with such fury that he almost had a stroke.

The young man was handsome in his right, but his contorted feature were sending a different message.

"It’s a good thing you’re back, you bastard! Now I can crush you for good," he grunted in rage before storming off.

"And what the hell was that all about?" Ryan asked, shocked by the young man’s sudden outburst.

A small crowd of students had already rallied about at the moment, but sensing there was nothing going on, they began to disperse.

"That’s Leon... Leon Ron Kingscrown," he whispered, his expression a little strange, "You gotta be careful around that bastard; dude’s a real powerhouse, and he meant every word he said," he added.

"But... Why? Why in fuck’s name would some stranger walk up to me and make death threats, like.. why?!" Ryan asked, still unable to believe the odd situation.

"He is no stranger, trust me.... Thing is," he leaned forward, making sure no one could eavesdrop, "He claims you to his girl," he explained, trying to hold himself back from bursting into a sinister laugh.

"I what now?!"

"He said that just after his girl dumped him, I mean, just how shameless can the guy be? And he’s supposed to be a candidate for the throne too," he held his stomach as the laugh attempted to slip out.

"What throne?"

"Oh, I keep forgetting you lost your memories... well, now you know, he’s a prince,"

’Prince? Well, fuck!’ Ryan roared in his thoughts, being at odds with a prince, that’s tantamount to death. Even if he was being protected by the academy now, his death was inevitable since a prince’s a fucking prince!

If not now, then later when he becomes king.

"But you’ve got nothing to worry about, dude. I mean how can you fuck someone THAT powerful? She has an affinity for crying out loud, not to talk of her monstrous mana pool," he shook his head. "On the flip side, what you’ve you got? no affinity, a weak ass quirk, not to talk of your laughable manapool and stamina, no offense bro," he chuckled with every word.

"Yeah, like hell I won’t take offense," he jerked his head into an arm hold as they walked towards the exit of the building.

"Let go bro, you’re embarrassing me," he laughed, trying to free himself.

But his playful banter fell on deaf ears as Ryan was currently staring at the impossible sight before him.

Ryan almost collapsed at the sight of this. Just how fucking desperate was he to have perpetrated such an act for only ten more days to live?! It was now the severity of the situation began sinking in; he had to get more lifepoints, and fast too... Or else...

Click.

The door to their dorm room snapped open with a mechanical precision, the faint echo reverberating down the empty corridor. Stepping into the hallway, Ryan and Luke barely hesitated, their footsteps falling in sync as they headed toward the elevator at the far end. The dorm was alive with students drifting aimlessly, some leaning against the walls, others strolling, their laughter and idle chatter filling the air with a sense of midday languor. It was late afternoon, and the usual crowd of students with little to do were meandering back to their rooms.

"So, what’s the deal with our current roommate again?" Ryan asked, breaking the silence, his tone carrying a hint of intrigue.

Luke shrugged nonchalantly, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "Oh, you mean Mr. Too-Good-for-Us? Bastard has points to burn, apparently. Guess he couldn’t bear the sight of us low-ranking plebs, so he rented his own room. Must be nice to have that kind of privilege." He spoke as casually as if discussing the weather.

Ryan raised an eyebrow, clearly hearing this for the first time. "Wait, you’re telling me... you can actually rent a room here?"

"Yeah, the academy has that covered," Luke said, chuckling as if it was obvious. "For the right price, you can stay in rooms reserved for the elite ranks. But it’s daylight robbery. The cost alone will eat you alive. We’re talking a thousand points a week at the high end, and five hundred for the absolute lowest. And where the hell are lowlifes like us, scraping by with ten points a day, supposed to come up with that kind of dough?" He shook his head, his mouth twisting in a scornful grin.

Ryan let out a low whistle. "And here I thought money was the solution to everything. But seriously, don’t the rich kids just buy their way through? Shouldn’t they be able to afford that, even if they’re low rankers?"

Luke laughed, a sharp sound that echoed down the corridor. "Rich kids? Pfft, don’t count on it. The academy doesn’t deal in the general currency—here, points are the only thing that counts. Once you’re in, all outside contact and resources are severed. Sure, some rich families sneak in points now and then, but they’re careful not to flaunt it. They know it’ll just paint a big target on their backs. So if you’re really itching for points, you either take on missions, duel and strip points from the losers, or claw your way up the ranking ladder. And trust me, the top dogs rake in points like... well, like Earth and Caren." He laughed again, leaving Ryan clueless about what Caren was but certain it was something far-flung and unreachable.

Ping.

The elevator chimed as the doors glided open, revealing a metallic box that somehow felt both claustrophobic and strangely protective. They stepped inside, Luke nudging Ryan with his elbow as a few students peered in, giving Ryan sidelong glances filled with a mix of surprise, disdain, and even a touch of fear.

"Guess I’m already a hot topic around here," Ryan muttered, glancing around at the lingering stares.

Luke snorted, casting his gaze aside. "Right... everyone loves a mystery."

Just then, someone brushed roughly past Ryan. Turning, he found himself face-to-face with a young man, tall and strikingly handsome, his golden eyes blazing with barely concealed rage. His glare was so intense Ryan nearly took a step back, feeling an electric jolt of unease.

"Oh, look who’s back," the stranger sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "Perfect. Now I get the pleasure of crushing you for good." Without another word, he stormed off, leaving Ryan baffled and a bit shaken.

"Uh... what the hell was that about?" Ryan asked, his voice low, eyes following the mysterious figure until he disappeared down the hall.

Luke’s expression grew tense, his voice dropping to a whisper. "That’s Leon... Leon Ron Kingscrown. You don’t want to mess with him; he’s the real deal, a powerhouse in his own right. And trust me, he meant every word he just spat at you."

"Leon Ron... Kingscrown?" Ryan echoed, the name as foreign as it was menacing. "Why would someone like him be gunning for me?"

Luke leaned in conspiratorially, trying—and failing—to stifle a mischievous grin. "Well... it might have something to do with his ex. Word on the street is he blames you for her dumping him." He was barely keeping himself from laughing out loud.

"Wait—what?" Ryan’s eyes widened in disbelief. "I’m supposedly the reason his ex left him?"

" Well yes... and it’s quite funny since the bastard’s prince!" He laughed.

".... a prince?" He could barely process it, his mind reeling at the thought of crossing paths with royalty, let alone incurring their wrath. As if the academy weren’t enough of a minefield already.

"Yep, a real-life prince. And now that you’re on his bad side... well, good luck, buddy," Luke clapped him on the shoulder, clearly enjoying Ryan’s mounting horror. "But seriously, don’t sweat it. No offense, but someone like you doesn’t stand a chance with a girl like her. She’s in a league of her own—insane mana reserves, an affinity with magic... and you’ve got what? A laughable mana pool and a questionable quirk. Like I said, no offense." He grinned, nudging Ryan in the ribs.

Ryan rolled his eyes. "Yeah, ’no offense’ my ass."

Before he could retort further, Ryan looped an arm around his neck in a mock headlock. They stumbled down the hall in playful scuffling, oblivious to the curious glances they were drawing. But then, just as they reached the building’s exit, Ryan’s eyes caught sight of something he could scarcely believe.
