Chapter 117: Chapter 82: And so it begins....

"ARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" A woman screamed in absolute pain, putting all her remaining strength into one last push. She could feel her body weakening by the minute, her muscles trembling and her breath coming in ragged gasps, but she couldn’t give up. The thought of holding her child for the first time, seeing the tiny life she had fought so hard to bring into the world, pushed her to endure the pain. Not now. She had to see her child after everything she had endured.

"Wehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" The cry of an infant broke the tension, and a collective sigh of relief followed. Linda’s body sagged as the sharp pain began to subside, replaced by the overwhelming weight of exhaustion.

"It’s a boy, Linda! It’s a boy!" one of the women surrounding Linda exclaimed joyfully. Miranda, a fellow maid assisting with the childbirth, beamed as she held the newborn. Despite the haze of pain and exhaustion, Linda managed a weak smile, her eyes fixed on her baby. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she took in the tiny face. She had never felt such profound relief and love all at once.

"But... his eyes are-" Yohanna began, her voice tinged with surprise. Before she could finish her observation, a loud, jubilant shout from outside shattered the moment.

"YES! LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!" a bellow interrupted their joy. A knock on the door snapped everyone to attention, and the celebratory atmosphere shifted to confusion.

"Cassidy?" Miranda asked, glancing nervously at the door.

"You are all to head to the palace. The king has declared a grand banquet," Cassidy announced with a wide smile as she stepped inside.

"Wait, don’t tell me-" Yohanna gasped, her hands clutching at her chest.

"Yes, the queen has given birth," Cassidy confirmed, her expression glowing with excitement.

"WHAT?!" Miranda exclaimed in disbelief.

"Cassy?" a weak voice called. Cassidy turned to find Linda looking at her, exhausted but alive. Her pale face glistened with sweat, but her expression was serene as she cradled her child.

"Linda," Cassidy murmured, her smile softening as she rushed to her friend’s side. "You made it," she said warmly, embracing her carefully, mindful of the newborn.

"Boy or girl?" Yohanna asked.

"Both," Cassidy replied, pulling back from the embrace.

"Both?" Jade interjected, her brows furrowing in astonishment.

"It’s twins," Cassidy confirmed, leaving everyone stunned. Linda’s tired smile widened as she overheard. She wasn’t the only one bringing new life into this world tonight. The royal household was bound to become even more lively.

...

"Rena, you’re back?" Linda asked, sitting quietly on the bed, holding her baby. She smiled as the child gazed up at her with unblinking golden eyes, his tiny pink hair giving him an angelic appearance. Despite her exhaustion, her heart swelled with a mix of pride and fear as she held him close.

"Yes. It took a great deal of effort to find it," Rena replied, her dark green hair framing her blue eyes as she approached Linda. She held a small bundle wrapped in cloth, which she placed carefully on the bedside table.

"Thank you," Linda said, her grey eyes filling with tears. Gratitude and relief filled her voice as she looked up at Rena, her oldest friend.

"Come on, don’t cry. You know I hate getting emotional," Rena scolded gently, though her glare was softened by a teasing smile. "You don’t have to thank me. I’d do anything for you."

"Hm. Looks like this little man doesn’t know when to cry," Rena teased, gazing at the baby whose golden eyes shifted to meet hers. His calmness unnerved her slightly, though she kept her tone light.

"You think it’s strange too?" Linda asked apprehensively, her voice tinged with worry. She traced her finger along her baby’s cheek, his serene expression doing little to ease her fears.

"Hey, don’t panic. Maybe babies who don’t cry are just saving their energy to grow up and boss us all around later." Rena joked, pinching the baby’s cheeks lightly. The gesture made Linda chuckle, albeit faintly.

"Never heard that one before," Linda laughed softly, her eyes returning to her child. For a brief moment, her anxiety faded, replaced by the quiet warmth of the moment.

"Linda..."

"Yeah?" she replied without looking up, still entranced by the tiny miracle in her arms.

"You never told me who the father is," Rena said carefully, her tone probing yet gentle. Linda visibly tensed, her smile faltering.

"You... must have already guessed," she sighed, smiling sadly as she avoided Rena’s gaze.

"Maybe... maybe he isn’t dead," Rena ventured, her voice hesitant but hopeful. Linda shook her head firmly, her expression darkening.

"No. I’ve long accepted it. Ezerael’s dead," she said, her tone heavy with grief. Tears welled up in her eyes as she continued, "He... he would have been so happy to know he’d become a father." Her voice broke as she caressed the baby’s face with trembling hands.

"Hah... Is that why you requested this?" Rena asked, resigned, as she revealed a strange object wrapped in silver threads. Its faint glow illuminated the room softly.

Linda bit her lip. "Yes."

"So you don’t intend to tell His Majesty?" Rena pressed, her voice dropping to a whisper. Linda shook her head meekly, her resolve unwavering.

"I can’t. I want my baby to live a happy life. I don’t want him tied to expectations or hateful politics. I want him to be free... I don’t want him to die like his father," Linda said, tears streaming down her face. Her voice cracked as she confessed her deepest fear.

"...Fine. I hope you’re making the right decision," Rena said, patting her back gently. She placed the glowing object on the bed, watching Linda’s face carefully.

"It’s the only way, Rena. I’ve seen what ambition does to people, what greed leads them to. If he joins the battle for the throne without any backing... he’ll be torn apart by ruthless contenders, drawn into deadly political schemes, or crushed by those with far greater power and influence." Linda said with determination. Her eyes glimmered with a mix of fear and resolve as she positioned the child on her lap.

"Are you really sure about this? You’ll be completely sealing away a part of him," Rena warned, her gaze softening as she looked at the child, envisioning the life he might have had. Her heart ached for the boy who would never know his full potential.

"I am. He might hate me for this one day, but I won’t regret it. I can’t lose what’s left of Ezrael," Linda said resolutely. Her voice trembled slightly, but her hands remained steady as she began channeling mana into the glowing object.

She pressed the object to the baby’s chest. The light intensified, bathing the room in a radiant glow. Suddenly, the child who had been silent cried out in pain.

"WAHHHHHHHHHH!" The baby’s wails pierced the room, shattering the fragile silence. Linda’s heart clenched, but she knew it was necessary. He was all she had left, and she couldn’t let him face the world unprotected.

The glow subsided, and the child’s golden eyes faded to a bluish hue before he fell asleep, his tiny body relaxing in her arms.

"It’s done," Linda whispered, cradling her son tightly. Her tears fell freely now, a mix of sorrow and relief overwhelming her.

"Oh, right. On my way here, I heard from Mirabel that the queen wishes to see you," Rena said, breaking the silence.

"The queen?" Linda echoed, her apprehension clear. Her grip on the baby tightened instinctively.

"Yes. It seems she’s been informed of your child’s birth," Rena confirmed, her voice calm but serious.

Linda’s mind raced as she tried to anticipate what this call could mean. Fear and doubt crept into her heart, but she knew she couldn’t avoid it forever.

"That’s right... You never told me his name," Rena said holding the small child’s hand in Her’s.

"It’s... Yuriel,"
