"Who are you really? Or what are you?" The emperor asked her and Acantha looked at him.

"What am I? I am me?" Acantha said as she raised her brows at the emperor.

"That’s not what I meant," He said as he sighed while looking at her.

Acantha sighed as she knew what he meant by asking her who she was, but she won’t answer it as she knew that, just like his wife, he won’t believe her.

"I am who I am, Your Majesty." Acantha answered him and the emperor looked at her like he was trying to read her soul.

"I know who you are, but what I really want to know is what you are and who you really are," The emperor said as he looked at her.

"I know that you were also the one who was behind the duke’s resurrection." He continued as he frowned at her.

"We received some letters here saying that the duke was dead, and then weeks passed and he was alive again?" he said as he started walking back and forth around the room again, while his hand was on his chin.

"It’s better for you not to know it, Your Majesty," Acantha said as she stared at the emperor coldly.

"And why is it better for me not to know? I am the emperor and I have the right to know everything that was happening in my empire," He said as he even raised his brows at her.

"The less you know, the less you put yourself in danger," Acantha said as she looked at him straight in his eyes.

"Does it have to do with the one who was attacking the empire? The fallen goddess Abanoon?" The emperor asked her as she looked at him.

"Am I right? I remembered one of the knights said that she seems to be looking for someone, but she was saying Solaia." He continued as he eyed her, looking for her reaction at what he said.

"Does my name sound like Solaia to you, Your Highness?" Acantha said as she chuckled at him, but her face still remained emotionless.

"Dion!"

The emperor was about to say something when the room’s door flung open and there they saw the empress, who just barged in without even knocking.

"Dion! You really need to talk to your son!"

The empress yelled and she seemed like she hadn’t noticed her there as she was too angry to look at her right side, where she was.

Acantha even saw Lady Yarin, who also came in with the empress and with the empress’s attendant.

The lady even gasped when she looked at her right side and saw that she was there.

Lady Yarin even looked at her from her head down to her toe.

"Lady Acantha, what a surprise! You’re also here..." Lady Yarin said loudly enough that the empress finally looked in her direction.

"What are you doing here?!" The empress said and she looked really mad when she saw her there.

Acantha even saw the other lady smirk at her at the empress’s reactions towards her presence.

"Did you come here for Helion again?" The empress said as she was accusing her again of coming after her son.

"Empress!" The emperor said as he stopped his wife.

"Lady Acantha was my guest; I was the one who summoned her here, and the crown prince didn’t even know she was here," he said as he explained to his wife, who still wasn’t convinced by what he said.

"Are you trying to covet my husband against me too?!" The empress said as she looked at her angrily while she was about to take her step when the emperor held her by her waist to stop her.

"Helen! Mind your manners! Lady Acantha didn’t do anything wrong, and what’s wrong with you?!" The emperor raises his voice against his wife.

"See? She is also trying to turn you against me, Just like what she did to my son!" The empress said as she looked at her.

"I didn’t do anything, Empress. You know why the emperor and your son were slowly drifting from you? It’s because you’re so difficult to handle; you keep on making your own ghosts to haunt you, and you keep making them do things they never even wanted just to please you," Acantha said as she looked at her without even batting an eye.

"You! How dare you say those words to me?" The empress said as she yelled at her.

"Lady Acantha! Aren’t you being disrespectful to the emperor and to the empress?!" she looked at Lady Yarin, who was looking at her with horror in her eyes.

"You might think so highly of yourself just because the duke was the one who was protecting the people, and just because you were born as a noble, the emperor and the empress still have a higher status than you!" Lady Yarin said as she looked at her while glaring.

"Lady Yarin, You keep on using my title and me being born into nobility—is that my fault that I was born as a higher noble than you for you to always throw it in my face?" Acantha said as she looked at Lady Yarin, who gasped at what she said.

"You’re just noble, but you’re poor. you must have gotten those clothes because the noble families in the south were paying your father well," she said as she smirked at her.

"What are you talking about, Lady Yarin? The Solaris are poor?" the emperor said as he looked at Lady Yarin with confusion in his eyes.

"Yes, Your Majesty. They were even collecting some pay from us to let the duke protect us with their knights," Lady Yarin said confidently as she smiled sweetly at the emperor.

"How is that possible? The Solaris is as rich as the imperial family, combining the property from the old house of Klartis, who also was a big duchy," The emeperor said which made the lady’s eyes widen.

"We were not here to talk about who’s rich and who’s poor. You, how dare you try to steal my son?!" The empress said angrily as she was about to attack her, but-

"Your Majesty..." They all looked at Gineo when he suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

"What was it, Gineo?" The emperor said as he looked bothered when he saw Gineo, who also looked not good.

"The monsters are starting to attack again," Gineo said as he looked at the emperor when he noticed their presence there.

"Your Majesty The Empress, Lady Acantha," Gineo said as he acknowledged her and the empress but not Lady Yarin, who looked pissed at what he did.

"Where’s the crown prince?" The emperor said as he looked at Gineo, who shook his head.

"We couldn’t find His Highness. I am fraid that by the time we found him, it would be too late as the monster—"

Gineo didn’t finish his sentence when they suddenly heard a loud explosion near the castle and when they all looked at the balcony, they saw that the monster was already there.

"Dion..." the empress said as she looked scared and Lady Yarin, who was also there, was shaking in fear.

Gone were the women who were tormenting her awhile ago; they looked very pale at the moment and very scared for their lives.

"How could this be? What happened to the barrier in the castle?" The emperor said and the two women shrieked when there was another explosion that caused the palace to shake a little.

"The barrier was cracking, Your Majesty. It has been months since the duke inspected and tightened it," Gineo answered as he looked at her like he was begging her.

The emperor took his word and was ready to fight.

Acantha sighed. as much as she hated the two women, the other people in this place had nothing to do with her anger.

"Let me try," Acantha said as she went in front of the emperor and Gineo and aimed her arms at the monster.

She looked at it and it seemed like it detected her as it aimed to attack in her direction.

"You are getting us killed?" Acantha heard Lady Yarin yell at her back.

She looked at her and rolled her eyes as she was still aiming at the monster.

Everyone who was there in the room looked surprised when they saw Acantha use her power for the first time, except Gineo and the emperor, who already knew what she was capable of.

The monster vanished into thin air, and Acantha used her power to strengthen the barrier around the palace and even used it to fix what was broken in here.

Lady Yarin, who was also there, looked pale as she also saw the lady that she was insulting just use her power to protect everyone who was there.

And what’s worse! she took the monster down with one attack.

She looked at lady and gulped when she saw that she was also looking at her.
