Chapter 136: Chapter-136.

Kaya flinched, glaring at the bird now flapping in front of her nose. "STOP! Stop cripping so damn much, you idiotic crip! You—pig-like sparrow!" she shouted right back, fists clenched.

But the sparrow didn’t care.

"CRIP! CRIP! CRIP!" he screamed even louder, fluttering his tattered wings furiously, pointing at himself, then at his injured leg, then at the wall he was launched into.

Kaya blinked, trying to follow his tiny wing gestures like she was decoding some deranged bird mime act.

"What the hell are you even—Wait—who the hell launched at me, huh?!" she yelled, suddenly furious again. "You! You! Freaking... idiotic piece of bird!"

The sparrow’s feathers puffed up like a ball of fury.

"Do you even realize you almost broke my ribs flying into me like that?!" Kaya shouted, pointing at her chest. "Do you think this body is made of steel, huh?!"

"CRIP!" he shouted defiantly, hopping in place like he was challenging her to a duel.

The two just stood there—woman and sparrow—yelling at each other like an old married couple, while the rest of the group stood frozen behind them, eyes wide, trying to understand.

Suddenly, a soft voice came from behind.

"Um... are you okay?"

Kaya, still catching her breath, turned around sharply. The sparrow did the same. For once, they moved in perfect sync—heads snapping to the side like a duo act.

Standing there awkwardly were the Nikala Beastmen and rin. One of them had stepped forward, concern written all over his face.

Before Kaya could answer, the sparrow whipped his head toward them, then swung dramatically back to Kaya.

"CRIP! "

(YOU!)

he shrieked, his tiny wings flapping so wildly it was like he was trying to fly into her soul.

"CRIP CRIP CRIP CRIP CRIP!!

(You idiotic woman! Didn’t you say you were going to buy some things for the household? Huh? Household !)

he shouted, his high-pitched voice cracking like a furious kettle whistle.

Then, without skipping a beat, he launched into a tirade, hopping in circles on the ground like a little ball of rage.

"Crip..... ..... .... .... ..... ...cripppp"

(You lustful woman! Vile! Rotten! Look at you! Disappearing for hours and leaving me—a small, fragile, innocent, baby-like creature—alone in a dark forest cave! With no food! No fire! Nothing but wolves and shadows!)

Kaya stared at him, her eye twitching. The rest of the group stood completely frozen—caught between concern and confusion.

Suddenly, Kaya snapped, pointing a sharp finger at the cave entrance.

"Shut up! What the—what even happened here?" she barked. "Why are there feathers everywhere? Did you go bald overnight or what? Should I just pluck you clean and toss you in a frying pan now?"

The sparrow froze, beak slightly open, completely dumbfounded.

This woman... This idiotic woman! She had the nerve to scold him after abandoning him in the middle of a wolf-infested forest?

Only he knew what horrors he’d survived last night.

Only he knew how many times he barely dodged death—hopping, flying, squeezing into crevices while a bloodthirsty wolf chased him around like a midnight snack. He hadn’t slept a wink!

Now she shows up, yelling like he was the problem?

His feathers ruffled even more as he puffed up and screeched,

"CHRIP!"

(YOU!)

Just before round two could start, Cutie quickly stepped between them with his hands raised.

"Wait, wait! Calm down, both of you! Just—calm down, please!" he said, voice filled with panic, trying to separate the warzone.

But it was useless.

At the exact same moment, both Kaya and the sparrow turned on him and shouted in unison—

"YOU STAY OUT OF THIS MESS!"

The sparrow followed up with an angry flutter, screeching, "Creep, creep, creep, creep!"

And just like that, both of them glared daggers at each other again—eyes narrowed, lips tight—and then turned their heads away with dramatic scoffs, refusing to even look at one another.

Cutie just stood there in the middle, blinking, utterly defeated.

After both Kaya and the sparrow turned their backs on each other with loud scoffs, Kaya walked into the cave to check on things.

The moment she stepped inside, her eyes narrowed. There were clear footprints—beast-like, large and deep—but no sign of anyone now. Whoever had been here... had already left.

She scanned the space quickly. The scattered food she had left earlier for that damn squirrel was still there, half-eaten and tossed around. But thankfully, the stash she’d hidden deeper underground was untouched.

Kaya let out a tired breath. At least that’s safe... for now.

She walked outside again and looked up at the sky. There was still a little time left in the day, and she had a hundred things to do. But the biggest problem was standing—or rather, barely standing—right behind her.

These Nikala beastmen.

They were still healing. Their wounds weren’t fully closed yet, and some of them could barely sit up straight, let alone move.

Kaya rubbed her forehead with her fingers, then turned to Cutie and asked, "How long will it take to heal them completely?"

Cutie looked down at his hands, frowning with a complicated expression. After a pause, he answered, "If I do it alone... it’ll take three to four days. Maybe more."

Kaya sighed, rubbing her temples again, already feeling the pressure building in her head. "And to make them at least walkable? Not fully healed—just able to move?"

Cutie looked almost pained as he scratched the back of his neck. Then he muttered, "Two days... if I push hard."

Kaya nodded slowly. "Fine. Then take two days. I want them on their feet. We don’t need them dancing—just walking. Perfectly."

Kaya looked up at the sky, a flicker of irritation flashing in her eyes.

If it were my old squad, she thought, I would’ve just barked an order, maybe handed out a punishment or two, and they’d be up and moving without a second word.

But now...

She glanced at the group in front of her. These weren’t trained soldiers. They weren’t even a team. Just a ragtag bunch of beastmen—bruised, healing, and probably half-suspicious of her. She didn’t know their strengths, their limits... or their loyalties.
