Chapter 65 - 63 : Swallowed Up

Chapter 65: Chapter 63 : Swallowed Up

Lumian crushed the last of the monsters under his heel. A mechanized voice echoed through the chamber.

"First wave... cleared."

Immediately after—

"Second wave... beginning."

Without a moment to breathe, the next set of creatures materialized.

Lumian exhaled slowly, rolling his shoulders.

This was getting interesting.

As he fought, he couldn’t help but admire the realism of the training room.

Every punch he threw had real weight.

Every strike connected with something solid.

He could feel the resistance of flesh, the snap of bone under his fists.

Even the blood felt real —its warmth, its texture as it splattered across the floor.

His lips curled into a smirk.

With technology like this...

The kind of damage he could do...

The kind of chaos he could unleash...

He chuckled, shaking the thought away.

Maybe later.

For now, this was just a test.

And he intended to ace it. He wasn’t one to try and prove people wrong, he just lived at his own pace, but he wanted to see the look on Trinity’s face when shatters the evaluation training that she held so much in high esteem

The waves continued.

By the fifth wave, Lumian started to notice patterns.

Whoever designed this evaluation wasn’t just throwing mindless enemies at him.

No— there was structure. Design.

It made him wonder...

Who came up with this?

The creatures weren’t just random.

Each wave had progression. A purpose.

The first monsters he fought were simple. Mindless. They attacked without strategy, moving like wild animals. Their purpose was to test his strength.

They were stronger than your average humans —but not much of a threat.

Then came the third wave.

Larger, more muscular creatures.

These ones were different.

They had some intelligence.

They knew how to feint attacks.

They threw dirt to obscure his vision.

They even tried coordinated strikes.

Still, compared to what he was facing now... They felt like mere children.

By the sixth wave, the creatures were faster. Smarter. Tactical. They didn’t just charge in.

They tested him— probing his defenses.

Their attacks changed every time they failed.

And more than that... They had ranged attacks. Shadow-like projectiles, dripping with corrosive energy.

A single touch could eat through metal. With each wave, the creatures became less human.

As if they were trading their humanity for strength.

Still, it was baby food for Lumian.

"Hmmm... something is not right."

Lumian muttered to himself, effortlessly cutting down another monster.

By the sixth wave , his thoughts started to drift.

"This is way too detailed for just a training course."

The creatures had habits.

They learned. Adapted.

That wasn’t normal.

"That white-haired fox is hiding something."

His golden eyes flicked upward.

Even through the illusion of the room, he could feel them watching.

Staring.

Judging.

Up in the observation room, Trinity felt a chill.

Lumian’s gaze locked onto her —as if he could see straight through the illusion the room created.

She took a step back.

Almost afraid.

Then she shook her head.

"Impossible. There’s no way he can see us."

She forced herself to relax.

Shirley, meanwhile, yawned.

"I’m bored."

She stretched, kicking her feet up.

"If my master has to fight until he drops, we’re gonna be here all week."

She closed her eyes.

"Wake me up when it’s over."

Within seconds, she was already dozing off.

But Trinity noticed something.

Even asleep— Shirley’s guard was never down.

And then there was Lumian.

Still effortlessly slaughtering everything that came at him. Her fingers curled into a tight fist.

She muttered under her breath—

"Who the hell are these people?"

She bit her lip.

"Just what have you brought to me, Reinhardt?"

Lumian reached wave ten.

Trinity’s hands tightened around the console.

Most E-Class heroes barely survived the first wave.

And yet— Lumian had reached wave ten in mere minutes. Reaching wave ten alone was already enough to put him in the upper echelons of B-class. Even B-class heroes spent days adapting and planning in the simulation before clearing wave ten but this monster had done it in minutes.

No struggle. No injuries.

And to make it even more impressive, he wasn’t even using his abilities.

Trinity stared, her pulse quickening.

The speakers crackled—

"Wave ten... cleared."

She blinked. "Already?"

Down below, Lumian looked... bored.

As wave eleven began , the monsters changed tactics.

They started hiding.

Using the environment.

Setting up ambushes.

But it didn’t matter.

Lumian closed his eyes.

Listened. The faintest shuffle of movement.

A whisper of breath.

Then his ears twitched.

He vanished.

Reappeared in an instant—Right behind one of the creatures.

It froze.

Even though it wasn’t real, even though it was just code—

It felt fear. Lumian’s presence seeped into its algorithm

It knew it was going to die.

It let out a shriek—

Lumian crushed its skull with one strike.

The others tried to flee.

They never got the chance.

Then— Everything changed.

A deep, ominous rumbling filled the air.

The very walls trembled and then the entire building shook.

Trinity’s heart stopped.

The ground beneath Lumian...

Split open.

Not the simulated ground.

Not the artificial floor.

The real ground.

Something was wrong.

Something was very, very wrong.

Lumian’s eyes widened as the earth swallowed him whole.

Then, in an instant— The ground sealed itself shut.

The shaking stopped.

The room went silent.

For a single, frozen moment—

No one breathed.

Then— Trinity’s face drained of color.

Her hands trembled.

"No..."

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Then louder.

"No, no, no—"

Her panic erupted.

"LOCK DOWN THE BUILDING!" she shouted, slamming her hand against the control panel.

"SEAL OFF EVERYTHING! NOW!"

The alarms blared.

"All available A-Class heroes and above, report to the Heart! Immediately!"

"Anyone outside—CALL THEM BACK!"

She ran out of the room, her breath ragged.

"This isn’t possible."

"This isn’t happening."

Her voice bordered on hysteria.

Shirley jerked awake, blinking.

"Huh?"

She looked around.

Trinity was gone.

The alarms were blaring.

And more importantly— Lumian was missing.

Her expression darkened.

"Tch."

She stood up, cracking her neck.

Then she ran after Trinity.
