Chapter 63 - 61 : Fenrir

Chapter 63: Chapter 61 : Fenrir

The air was thick with tension.

Fenrir cracked his knuckles, rolling his shoulders as he measured Lumian with sharp, assessing eyes. The first few exchanges had been fast, precise, brutal but there was no mistaking the shift in the air.

He had expected a challenge, everyone knew of the naked hero who took down Voltstrike

But this?

This was different.

Lumian stood before him, perfectly composed, not a single bead of sweat on his face. Calm. Calculating. Unfazed.

Fenrir clenched his fists.

This kid was toying with him.

Without waiting for another breath, Fenrir lunged forward again.

A blur of speed and force.

His fist shot out aimed for Lumian’s ribs but Lumian was already moving.

A slight pivot. A shift of weight.

The strike whistled through empty space.

And then Lumian countered.

His palm snapped forward, striking Fenrir’s shoulder with surgical precision. It wasn’t meant to knock him back—it was meant to disrupt.

Fenrir staggered.

But he recovered quickly.

He retaliated with a spinning kick fast, powerful, a move that could send most opponents crumpling.

Lumian ducked.

Effortlessly.

Not in a way that screamed panic. Not in a way that said he had barely dodged.

No.

He moved like he had seen it coming way before it even happened.

The realization sank into Fenrir’s gut like a stone.

This fight was about him testing Lumian, seeing and pushing him to his limits but the table turned quickly and It was Lumian who was the one evaluating him.

From the sidelines, Trinity narrowed her eyes.

This wasn’t what she had expected.

She knew Lumian was strong. Reinhardt wouldn’t have sent him here otherwise.

But this level of control? This level of ease?

Her fingers tapped against her armrest. Maybe he wasn’t as bad as she thought.

’But still, that man. That man killed...’ she thought to herself

Beside her, Shirley folded her arms and smirked.

"This fight is an easy win for us. Lumian’s way stronger than this guy," she said with smug confidence. "I could take him, and I’m way weaker than Lumian."

Trinity’s gaze flickered to her.

"Is that so?" she murmured. "We’ll see about that. Fenrir is just testing the waters."

Back to the fight.

Fenrir was pressing forward with relentless aggression now, his movements a blur of speed and power.

But Lumian wasn’t even breaking a sweat.

Dodging. Redirecting. Matching Fenrir’s pace without pushing past the bare minimum of effort.

Not once did he flinch. Not once did he lose his footing.

It was unnatural.

Fenrir could feel it now, he was fighting someone who wasn’t struggling to keep up

He was fighting someone who was holding back, matching his tempo, fighting just on the cusp of his ability. That level of control and precision was beyond the level of a rookie, but to Fenrir Lumian was still a rookie.

The thought of losing to Lumian and losing face in front of Trinity pissed him off.

With a sharp exhale, he surged forward again, aiming to drive Lumian into a corner.

It was a mistake.

In one swift motion, Lumian shifted his weight and lashed out with a clean, precise strike.

His fist smashed into Fenrir’s gut.

The impact was brutal.

Fenrir’s boots screeched against the floor as he slid backward, arms tensed to keep himself upright.

His ribs ached.

His breath came shaky.

But he was still on his feet.

Fenrir let out a slow, pained breath before straightening.

Then, to Lumian’s mild surprise, he smiled.

"Not bad," Fenrir said, wiping his mouth."I’ll give you that."

He exhaled, rolling his shoulders again.

"You’re probably going all out to prove you belong here, huh?" His smirk widened. "Alright then. I’ll kick it up a notch too."

Lumian raised an eyebrow.

’Going all out? What a joke’

If anything, he had been holding back as much as possible.

He wasn’t here to show off. He was here to just observe. To analyze and to get into the Vanguard.

But if Fenrir wanted to up the stakes—

Fine.

Fenrir charged again.

His speed was insane. A blur of motion that would have overwhelmed most.

But to Lumian?

He could still see every single movement effortlessly.

Still too slow.

With surgical precision, Lumian met him mid-dash.

His fist drove into Fenrir’s solar plexus.

The combined force of Fenrir’s momentum plus Lumian’s perfectly-timed strike was devastating.

Fenrir’s ribs cracked instantly.

His eyes went white.

And then he was sent flying.

His body crashed into the far wall with an earth-shattering impact, leaving a massive crater in the reinforced steel.

Silence.

Then Shirley broke into laughter, pumping her fist into the air.

"Hell yeah, Lumian!"she cheered. "That’s what I’m talking about!"

Trinity, however, frowned.

She pressed a button on her wrist communicator. "Get the medics in here."

Lumian exhaled and turned to face her.

His steps were measured, his expression unreadable.

Then, in a calm, steady voice, he asked—

"So? Am I in?"

Trinity met his gaze, her expression neutral.

Then, finally

"Yes. You’re in."

But before Shirley could celebrate again, Trinity added—

"But your tests aren’t over yet."

Shirley scowled. "Oh, come on! That’s unfair! You literally just said—"

Lumian raised a hand, cutting her off.

She huffed but fell silent.

Trinity watched him closely.

"Fenrir clearly wasn’t a match for you, you made it clear to see"she admitted. "And you were holding back."

"Was I?"

She tapped her desk once.

"But all heroes have their rank. And yours? We can’t determine that from this alone."

Lumian gave a small nod.

"Fair enough. Let’s just get it over with, then."

Trinity narrowed her eyes slightly. "You’re arrogant."

Lumian shrugged. "I’m just mirroring your attitude towards me." He tilted his head. "If arrogance is what you read it as, then so be it."

Shirley giggled.

Trinity sighed, rubbing her temple.

Then, finally, she smirked.

"Someone’s good with words."

Her smirk faded slightly.

"Let’s just hope you last past the first wave."

"Let’s see If I do," Lumain replied calmly
