Chapter 32: Chapter 32 : Take a guess

Michael stood frozen at the doorway, his breath caught somewhere between a gasp and a growl. His mind refused to piece the scene together, to acknowledge the sheer disgust clawing its way up his throat.

His wife—his Angela—was sprawled out in front of him, her body used, ruined, broken. And the man standing over her? Lumian.

Michael’s fingers twitched, small arcs of electricity crackling between them. The lights in the apartment flickered, as if sensing his rage.

Lumian, still inside Angela, glanced over his shoulder at Michael, completely unbothered. A slow, lazy smirk stretched across his face. "Took you long enough," he said, his tone almost mocking. "But you’re still right on time."

Then, as if to taunt him further, Lumian reached over and tipped an imaginary hat. "By the way, nice hat," he mused. "It suits you."

Michael didn’t respond. He couldn’t. His mind was a storm, his emotions a maelstrom of rage, betrayal, and something even darker.

Angela, barely holding onto consciousness, forced her bleary eyes open. She could barely make out the silhouette standing in the doorway, her body still tingling from what Lumian had done to her.

She blinked. And then she saw him.

"...Michael?" she rasped.

The way she said his name—weak, exhausted, ruined—snapped something inside him.

The air in the room shifted.

Michael’s entire body tensed, and in the next instant, lightning surged through his veins.

CRACK.

A burst of electricity shot from his body, frying the already flickering bulbs, plunging the room into an eerie half-light.

His feet moved on instinct, lunging at Lumian with murderous intent.

But Lumian was ready.

He withdrew from Angela in an instant, dodging Michael’s attack with infuriating ease, his movements effortless, controlled.

Michael snarled, wild, unrestrained. He struck again, his fist charged with electricity, aiming straight for Lumian’s skull.

Lumian sidestepped.

CRASH.

Michael’s fist obliterated the coffee table. Splinters and sparks flew through the air, but he didn’t care.

His focus was solely on Lumian.

Angela weakly tried to sit up, but her limbs wouldn’t obey her. "Michael—"

"Shut up," Michael spat, not even sparing her a glance. His chest heaved, his body trembling from the sheer rage coursing through his veins.

Lumian chuckled, calm, unfazed. "Oh, Michael," he said, dodging another wild strike. "Look at you. A mess of emotions. Your wife betrays you, and suddenly you’re just an animal."

"Let me educate you quickly. You know in the Chinese lore, when a man has been cucked," He paused, "Like you. A green hat is placed on his head to let everyone know that he is a cuck...Like you,"

Michael’s patience snapped.

His power surged, raw electricity exploding from his body. The air in the room smelled of burning ozone, and the static charge made Angela’s hair stand on end.

"Shut up, shut up, shut up!" Michael roared.

Another attack—faster, deadlier.

But Lumian wasn’t dodging anymore.

This time, he let Michael grab him by the collar and slam him against the wall.

Michael’s fingers dug into Lumian’s throat, electricity dancing along his arm, ready to fry him alive.

His breaths were ragged, his face contorted in a mixture of rage and betrayal.

"Why?" Michael’s voice shook. "Why the fuck would you do this?"

Lumian simply grinned.

And then he spoke.

"This was never about Angela," he said smoothly.

Michael’s fingers tightened.

Lumian’s grin widened.

"This was about you."

Michael’s entire body went stiff.

"This was about breaking you, Michael."

Lumian leaned in, eyes gleaming with something dark, something twisted.

"You needed to pay for what you did."

Michael didn’t speak. He couldn’t.

Lumian continued, his voice silk over steel.

"You thought Angela loved you?" He scoffed. "She barely put up a fight, you know. She melted for me."

Michael’s grip faltered.

Lumian smirked. "She never really cared about you." His tone softened—mocking sympathy. "No one does."

Michael’s chest tightened.

He felt it—the fissure in his heart cracking open, the false and planted realization sinking in like poison.

His mind replayed everything.

Every moment Angela pushed him away.

Every time she ignored him.

Every time Lumian was there when she wasn’t.

Lumian’s voice was a whisper now, a dagger sliding between his ribs.

"You’ve always been alone."

Michael’s hands trembled.

Lumian’s smirk turned cruel. "You’re nothing but a pathetic, broken little boy desperate for someone to care about him. Prancing about in a costume, playing hero is just another sad attempt at seeking attention and validation"

That was the final straw.

Michael’s control snapped.

BOOM.

A massive explosion of electricity erupted from his body.

The entire building trembled.

Sparks tore through the air, setting fire to the furniture. The walls cracked. The ceiling shook.

Angela screamed, covering her head.

Lumian was blown back, crashing into the opposite wall.

And in the center of it all, Michael stood—electricity arcing off his body in violent, uncontrollable surges.

His eyes burned with pure, unfiltered rage.

He took a step forward.

The floorboards beneath him cracked.

He took another step.

His hands sparked like live wires.

Lumian, for the first time, looked genuinely impressed.

Michael’s voice was low, dangerous.

"I’m going to kill you."

Lumian wiped a trickle of blood from his lips, grinning.

"Then do it."

BOOM!!

A bigger surge of electrical explosion engulfed the apartment, sending not only the apartment but the entire block into blackout.

Michael’s chest rose and fell heavily as he scanned the surrounding ruins for signs of Lumian. A light cough cut through the silence, it was Angela and she was barely conscious.

Michael had instinctively protected her from the blast by directing majority of his firepower to Lumian.

"Tch," he hissed at her

"That was too much voltage, even reinforced heroes and villains should barely be alive from that and Lumian is just human," Michael thought out loudly

He stared at his now trembling hands as he looked around, "I killed him? I killed him! I killed Lumian and for what reason? Sleeping with my already unfaithful wife?

What have I done? I killed a non-villain. I killed Lumian!" His muttered to himself, his eyes growing wide in realisation of what he had just done.

"Yet again, you are wrong about killing me," Lumian announced, pushing away the concrete debris that landed on him.

"This is the second time now, with all the villains you’ve killed one would think you would be able to properly do it the second time. Useless," He continued, his tone condescending and filled with arrogance

"H-How? That blast should have killed you. How are you still alive?" Michael asked, puzzled as to how Lumian was still alive

"Take a guess, fuckface,"

Right before Michael’s very eyes the scratches, burns and gashes on Lumian slowly began to close up and heal.

"You have abilities too?"

"Well, you’re half right. Good enough for a dimwit though," Lumian mocked

’Lumian is an ability user? And the fact that he survived my blast means that he is a strong one at that. What more secrets do you have Lumian?!’ Michael mused

Michael growled at him, a field of electricity began forming around him as he walked towards Lumian

"Good, I don’t want you die that easily so I can beat you to my satisfaction," He pointed at Lumian as he spoke,

"You’re starting to look like the villains you so much despise, but you’re not there yet. Soon you’ll be,"

"Why Lumian? Why do this to me? I thought we were friends?" Michael asked, although his eyes were filled with anger, there was an underlying sadness in his tone.

Lumian smirked, "If you repeat what you just said enough times, you’ll see what’s wrong with it.

But if you really want to know why I did this, follow me," He said, jumping out of the ruined window of the apartment

Michael frowned, "Oh no, you’re not getting away from me,"

He darted after Lumian without hesitation. It was then Angela fully came to.

"Wait!" She called out, but it was too late.
