Chapter 659: One Week

Dr. Feng saw through his intention in one glance. "Nope. No can do. Don’t even think about it." He shook his head firmly. "All you need to do is to recover first. You can’t even walk properly right now. Why would you think about going around killing people?" He clicked his tongue in exasperation and the three complaint words ’youngsters these days...’ were clearly printed on his face.

Lu Yizhou shot him a glance. "If I don’t deal with them, then who will?"

He even dared to assassinate the royalties when they were still thriving, ultimately ending their family line in one night. And he was doing it all by himself. What else did he not dare to do?

Dr. Feng: "..."

Patience, Dr. Feng told himself. This was Lu Yizhou he was dealing with right now. Dr. Feng took a few deep breaths before he managed to calm the anger in his heart. "Remember, Lu Yizhou. Even though you’re secretly hailed as an unnamed hero by the citizens in Capital Planet, you are still on the top of the wanted criminal list."

Lu Yizhou raised a brow as if retorting, ’And who is the one who decided to shelter this wanted criminal in the end?’

Dr. Feng was so angered that he almost spurted out a mouthful of blood. He decided that visiting time was over and he should leave tomorrow’s problem for tomorrow. Standing up, he pointed at Lu Yizhou’s nose and rebuked this insolent youngster harshly. "If you don’t want to be hunted by the army, then you’d better stay here obediently to recuperate!"

Then he suddenly recalled that this person did not play by rules. It was highly possible that Lu Yizhou would secretly take advantage of the gap in the hospital’s security to sneak out and do some dangerous deeds. Dr. Feng sank into contemplation and added after a while with a pained look on his face. "...One week. I will check your recovery rate after one week. If it’s passable, then... I will bring you to see him."

"What do you mean by ’passable’?

Dr. Feng shot a glare toward this insolent youngster who did not know when to keep his mouth shut. "Of course, it’s my own judging criteria. You don’t need to know."

He thought that Lu Yizhou would give another audacious retort, something in the line of ’why can’t I know?’ or ’why should I listen to you?’ Yet in the end, the young man said something unexpected instead.

"One week is too long. I won’t be able to hold on until then," he uttered in a low voice. The bedside lamp gave off warm yellow light, shrouding his thin figure in an air of melancholy.

Lu Yizhou was not lying nor was he trying to gain Dr. Feng’s sympathy. Whenever he closed his eyes, 55’s tear-streaked face would appear behind his eyelids as well as his anguished cries. If he had to spend seven days in this silent hospital ward without doing anything, Lu Yizhou reckoned he would lose his mind sooner or later.

Dr. Feng was startled. He had completely forgotten about this. When they found Lu Yizhou’s stiff body, the doctor had performed a blood test on him and was surprised to find such a high concentration of sleeping aid chemicals in his system. Worse, his body had even developed an endurance toward it, indicating that Lu Yizhou had taken the medication for years.

His anger was instantly doused, and he got soft-hearted again. This person had just come out of the simulator, after all. What did you have to be so harsh for?! Dr. Feng berated himself.

It was all because Lu Yizhou was too calm. He had the kind of composure that could only be tempered through countless hardship, giving off the impression that he had everything perfectly under control. And it made Dr. Feng forget for a second that this person had just comitted suicide three months ago...

Dr. Feng’s brows smoothened, even his voice became a tad gentler. "Don’t worry. I have dealt with those people. They’re all hiding among the researchers of the project, and that’s why they have the chance to add bugs into the system. Once I have secured the bug’s main source data, it is not difficult to trace them back to their creator. The one they have messed with is the government’s major project after all. By now, they should have already been squatting behind the prison bars."

"Are you sure you have got them all?" Lu Yizhou was skeptical. Dr. Feng had said that only he and a handful of people knew about Zeke’s existence, so why would there be a leak of news in the first place, causing those people to sneak into the research team?

Dr. Feng rolled his eyes. "I will call you father if there are still more traitors, okay?"

Lu Yizhou narrowed his eyes sharply. Well for now, he would give Dr. Feng the benefit of doubt. In his eyes, Dr. Feng did not seem like a careless person. He must have also taken care of the person who leaked Zeke’s existence.

He raised a brow, asking, "So?" If he did not have to take care of those people, what should he do during these seven days?

Heaving a sigh, Dr. Feng finally relented. He tapped on his terminal a few times, then he raised his eyes to ask Lu Yizhou, "Do you have a terminal?"

Lu Yizhou shook his head. He had no one else in this world, nor did he have any friends he could communicate with. What would he need a terminal for?

Dr. Feng had expected it. He took off the black high-tech terminal from around his wrist and threw it toward Lu Yizhou’s lap. "Take it. It’s mine."

Just as Lu Yizhou wanted to reply that he did not need it, he suddenly caught a glimpse of the terminal’s screen. The words were abruptly lodged on his throat and he even lost his breath as a result. With trembling fingers, he picked up the terminal and enlarged the screen.

A hologram screen showed up in front of him and on it was... his lover’s face.

He was currently being kept in an observational room with lots of detectors linked to his vitals. It was the face Lu Yizhou was very familiar with, yet it also felt quite foreign at the same time.

With his eyes peacefully shut, Zeke looked like he had just sunk into a deep slumber. His long brown hair spread loosely around him. Due to the prolonged coma, his cheeks were sunken a bit, making his lashes look especially long and dark.

Lu Yizhou stared at the screen, unable to take his gaze off.

Unexpectedly, this scene reminded him of the time when he saw experimental subject 55 for the first time, except the real Zeke looked a bit older than that. Ah right, Lu Yizhou belatedly realized that he did not even know how old his lover was.

"I can’t bring you to see him yet..." Dr. Feng gestured at the terminal. "But you can see him through this. It’s connected with the surveillance in his medical room. Once he wakes up, you will be able to know immediately. Are you satisfied?"

Lu Yizhou nodded mutedly. He was like a wild beast whose fur had just been smoothened, making him look especially tamed and docile.

Dr. Feng secretly heaved out a sigh of relief. He took a glance at the time and decided that he should let the patient rest for the night. After all, Lu Yizhou really looked thin and sickly right now. "It’s late. I will come and visit you again tomorrow. Until then, please try to get as much rest as you can."

As he walked toward the door, he suddenly recalled something and turned around again. "Oh, I think I need to tell you something. I have no idea whether the people in the Post-Simulator Department have informed you or not, but don’t worry too much about what has happened inside the simulator. Let bygones be bygones. Your memory during that period will become blurred after some time, and gradually you will forget most of it. It’s also a form of prevention, otherwise if the patients have tasted the thrill of having a lot of supernatural powers only to return to the dull reality and then decide to kill themselves again, what should we do?" He chuckled wryly.

Lu Yizhou did not hear the latter half of Dr. Feng’s sentence as he mostly focused on the part where he would forget most of the things he had gone through in the simulator. Shaken, he blurted out, "What about my daughter?!" Would he forget about her too?!

"Of course, you will also— wait, your what?!!" Dr. Feng’s face abruptly changed into one of extreme shock.
