Chapter 535 - 9.5 Zombie King?!
Chapter 535: 9.5 Zombie King?!
Lu Yizhou had no idea but a few seconds after he lost consciousness, the zombies who had been ravenously biting his flesh suddenly recoiled as though they had seen something terrifying. They let out sharp, flustered squeaks and retreated like ants, almost scrambling away from the bloodied man on the floor.
They strictly kept a five meters radius distance, not daring to get close but unwilling to leave either. In their manic turbid eyes, there was actually a flash of fear and worship.
Their gait was restless, almost impatient. If they still retained their mobility, they would have paced back and forth in place. Alas, due to their body configuration, they could only make small movements like grinding their teeth, snapping their heads side by side, hands clenching and unclenching.
At that exact moment, not only the zombies on the narrow corridor, but the whole world — all of the zombies portrayed the exact same behaviour. Those who were chasing after humans abruptly stopped in their tracks and those who were prowling on the empty street suddenly lifted their heads and stared in the direction of the huge university.
Then as though a signal had been given; they started to move uniformly there.
Inside F University. Robotic Club.
The glasses student who was using a drone to monitor the perimeter cried out in shock, his face paling. "F–Fuck! Look at this, guys! All of the zombies outside are heading here!"
In the military’s emergency basecamp.
A soldier clad in protective gear from head to toe urgently knocked on the door. "Commander, something bizarre has happened!"
Commander Yang, a stern-looking and domineering man, followed behind the soldier with a grave expression on his face. They entered the monitor room one after another. There were no less than ten huge monitors lining up on the wall with many soldiers crowding around. As soon as they caught sight of him, they immediately straightened up and saluted. "Commander!"
"At ease." The commander said in a low and authoritative voice. His heavy gaze slid to the monitors which were measuring the radar of activities around multiple spots in the country.
It had only been three days... Three days and almost 80% of the originally blue dots had turned into glaring red, indicating that the deadly virus had spread to an unimaginable extent. But that was not the most shocking thing.
As of now, every single red dot was moving in one direction as though something or someone was controlling them!
Commander Yang suppressed the shock in his heart and asked, "What’s the current situation?"
One of the soldiers stood in attention. "Answering Commander’s question, there has been no particular signs but all of a sudden, all of the infected show a similar reaction! We have tried to inquire about this matter to the other basecamps but they have no idea at all either!"
Such a situation was unprecedented and filled them with ominous foreboding. Lines formed between the commander’s brows. "Where are they heading?"
An operator was swiftly typing on the keyboard, rows of data rapidly filling the thin monitor in front of him. He answered without taking his eyes off the screen. "Judging from the direction, it seems like they’re currently heading to... F University!"
F University??
Everyone’s face, including the commander himself, showed genuine confusion. F University was not the most prestigious university in the country, nor had it produced any commendable alumni. It was just like any other universities that could be found in every city.
The most prominent figure they could remember in this university was a professor slash scientist who dabbled in genetic recombination. Hearsay the professor was too obsessed with his own research that he made his home in the laboratory. He was one of the freak geniuses of the century. Even then, because of the confidentiality of his research, nobody in the military had ever made contact with the professor. They only knew that his surname was Zhao.
Could this phenomenon have anything to do with Professor Zhao? Perhaps but still, it was only a possibility.
One thing for certain, the fact that the zombies were heading there in unison must have meant something.
"C–Commander..." One of the soldiers, who liked to watch apocalypse movies before the disaster struck, suddenly piped in with an aghast look. "Could it be... has the zombie king been born?"
Everyone turned at him in shock. Zombie king?! They had been losing hair dealing with ordinary zombies yet all of a sudden, there was also a king?!!
"Of course, it’s only baseless speculation!" The soldier could not help but add when he saw his comrades’ apprehensive look. He scratched his head. "But usually, in this kind of scenario, only the zombie king can summon the minions..."
Whispers spread around the room, filled with alarm and trepidation. The situation was quickly spiraling out of control. At that moment, Commander Yang’s loud voice suddenly boomed, pulling the people out of fluster,
"Enough!" The commander’s voice was calm and steady, and his icy look worked wonders to dampen the heated atmosphere. Everyone clamped their mouths shut and the whispers ceased into utter silence. Everyone’s eyes converged on the commander, who was observing the monitors with a heavy frown on his face. "Except for the military, the base communication in the country is already down. We have no way to inquire about the situation inside the university. First, launch the radar around the university and determine the number of uninfected people. We will also try to contact Professor Zhao to see if he has any clues. How much manpower is available here?"
"There are 30 soldiers and 2 military doctors, Sir!"
Commander Yang grimaced. "That’s severely lacking but we will make do for now. We will split into two teams. First team, stay here and monitor the live situation. Second team will join me. We will ride the helicopter there as soon as possible. Prepare the firearms!"
"Yes, Sir!!!"
The whole basecamp was on the move and ten minutes later, a dark green helicopter flew into the air.
At the same moment, Lu Yizhou was experiencing what was called ’the resurrection of flesh and soul’. His temperature had been rising steadily to 50 degrees Celsius, high enough to burn ordinary people’s brains and turn them silly. Seizures zipped through his body and he was akin to a fish out of the water, squirming and twitching violently.
His mangled body healed with a speed visible to naked eye, but at the same time, his pale complexion turned even more ashen; pale blue veins throbbing on his forehead and the side of his neck. Around him, the zombies were getting more and more restless, growls rising out of their throat as they stomped their feet.
[666: QAQ uwaaa, what kind of situation is this?!! Host, please wake up! 666 is so scared!! 666 doesn’t want to be a zombie system!!!]
Perhaps stimulated by 666’s incessant shrieks, Lu Yizhou’s back arched off the ground and his eyes suddenly snapped open!
His eyes seemed to be covered in a layer of turbidity, turning his silver pupils into milky white. Then as though reacting to the light, deep black permeated the whites of his eyes, making his whole countenance look evil. However, a few seconds later, the impurity receded into the corner of his eyes and his silver eyes regained its sharp lustre.
[666: HOST!!! Uwuwuwu, you’re finally awake!!!]
Lu Yizhou was confused for a split second, unable to recall the event that landed him in the current peril. However, when he swept his gaze around and saw the crowd of zombies standing afar, he abruptly jumped to his feet and bared his teeth, ready to fight another round for the energy that ran through his body was almost overflowing. Let alone these tens of zombies, he felt like he could even fight an entire army of them!
It took him approximately two seconds to realize that something was very, very wrong.
First, he could not seem to speak. He opened his mouth and tried to form words but all that came out of his mouth was low growls.
Second, the zombies were afraid — no, they were terrified of him. When he bared his teeth at them, they actually turned tails and scrambled away, even shoving and stomping each other. The entire scene was a mess of broken limbs and uncontrollable stampede. And then, when they realized that he did not give chase, they stopped and turned to peek at him with an aggrieved look.
...As if he was a school bully and they were his pitiful victims.
Lu Yizhou: "..."
He took a deep, deep breath yet unable to hold back a curse. [Plot!]
