Chapter 493: 8.93 Race Against Time*

"Two..." Lu Yizhou’s eyes were frighteningly cold and his entire body emitted a thick murderous intent. He could not help but recall the annoying Baines who had connected his lifeline to Ellen. Quiet anger simmered in his blood and he spat out, "Where?"

No doubt if Cyrus were to point out a location now, he would definitely bulldoze his way into the bug’s nest and annihilate them all. With the two of them here, Lu Yizhou did not have to be scared that his lover would be hurt. Cyrus was Dr. Feng’s creation and the man seemed to be connected to his lover one way or another. Also, he could tell that Dr. Feng placed special care on his lover. This way, Ellen would be completely safe under Cyrus and Luan’s watch.

To his utter disappointment, Cyrus put on a helpless look and shook his head. "We still don’t know yet. One thing for sure is, the bug will definitely hang around Ellen. There are two possibilities; either they are hiding themselves so deeply or they have a high profile identity that can protect them in this world. As long as we set up an ambush, it’s only a matter of time until we catch them."

Lu Yizhou nodded stiffly. Concerning the bug, Cyrus knew better than he did. Lu Yizhou would give him the benefits of doubt. "Tell me what I have to do."

Cyrus gave him a reassuring look. "Please don’t concern yourself too much about the bug. What you have to focus on is him." A frown appeared on his forehead as he exchanged a glance with Luan as though hesitating whether he should tell Lu Yizhou or not.

Lu Yizhou’s heart abruptly sank. "What’s wrong with him?"

Sometimes Lu Yizhou hated how glib Cyrus’ tongue was. He had confused Lu Yizhou a few times previously with his meaningful words that never got to the point. This time, too, it was apparent that he tried to speak in a way that would soothe Lu Yizhou’s spiking anxiety.

"He’s fine," he said in a convincing tone, smiling. "But it will be better if you can accompany him more. Aren’t there more than two personalities in his body? I am afraid that it will be a little difficult for him to bear."

Lu Yizhou silently shifted his sharp gaze to Luan.

Different from last time, Luan could speak now. Lu Yizhou could tell early on that the other was the same type of person as he was; they loathed to beat around the bush. It was not like Lu Yizhou detested Cyrus’ diplomatic ability, but what he needed was the complete, transparent truth.

As he expected, Luan did not disappoint.

The man opened his mouth and spoke in a hoarse voice, "This world is very unstable."

"Luan!" Cyrus exclaimed, clearly disagreeing with his blunt way. He tried to cover Luan’s mouth to no avail, he was too short compared to the other. Luan simply held his flailing hands down and gave him a look. For a few seconds, both of them were engaged in a silent staring contest, sparks and gunpowder flying in the air.

Lu Yizhou gritted his teeth, impatient. "Tell me."

Cyrus finally heaved out a heavy sigh and threw up both hands in surrender. "Fine! I will tell you." His expression turned solemn. "You know that the world’s core energy is very dependent on him, right? It’s sufficient to say that these worlds were tailored just for him. Without him, the world would lose its meaning and stop operating."

Lu Yizhou’s eyebrows jumped and he almost retorted ’How is it possible that these shitty worlds were tailored just for him? In every world, he has to be the villain and suffer a life worse than death. Do you intend to save him or push him deeper into despair?!’ Fortunately, he slammed down on the brake in the nick of time. Now was not the time to press the truth. Lu Yizhou inhaled and asked, "So, what you mean by the world is very unstable is..."

"Before we came in, we were surprised to find that this world is very... fragile." Cyrus elaborated solemnly. "You have gone through many simulations before so you should have found out that this world is different from the others. For starters, every single simulation is supposed to be a complete world, but this one is broken into hundreds of different instances. Take this instance for example. We are currently stranded in the middle of the sea. If you try to jump and swim back to the shore, you will find out that there’s no mainland. It’s because that is what this instance is... a world dominated by an endless sea. There will be no other living being aside from those who are currently boarding the ship."

Lu Yizhou pursed his lips together. As unbelievable as it sounded, Cyrus’ words made sense. It was not the first time Lu Yizhou had sensed something off with this world. "So..." He said carefully, his tone heavy. "The reason why this world is unstable and fragmented... is because it’s linked with Ellen’s consciousness?"

"Yes." A trace of appreciation flashed in Cyrus’ eyes. "Perhaps it has something to do with his split personality or perhaps it can also be because of the bug. The point is, it won’t do him any good in the long run. More and more instances are appearing as we speak and if this goes on..."

Luan finished for him. "His mentality will collapse."

Tension coiled under Lu Yizhou’s muscles and blue veins popped up along his arms from how hard he was clenching his fists. Every word that Cyrus and Luan said seemed to hammer down on his heavy heart, forcing him to face the cruel reality.

Ellen was not okay. No, not only Ellen, but also Ella and Ellie. Even though they might appear normal on the outside, in fact, they were slowly dying inside. Maybe it was why Ellen needed those chains to keep his power in check... because he was afraid that he would lose control and destroy everything, including himself.

Luan stepped forward to clasp him on the shoulder in silent encouragement.

"This is a race against time." Cyrus huffed out a wry laugh. "We have to bring him out as soon as this instance is completed or else..." He trailed off, but everyone could hear the underlying meaning behind his words.

There was no ’or else’. No one could imagine the consequences that would happen if they were to dally any longer. By then, Lu Yizhou might lose the three of them altogether...

Subsequently, Cyrus and Luan guarded Ellen’s room as Lu Yizhou went back into the labyrinth to complete the second kill for 666. His action was cold, precise and savage.

It did not take ten minutes before he returned. After that, they agreed to discuss more about the plans to clear the quest as well as how to get rid of the bug tomorrow. Lu Yizhou offered them a quiet thanks as they passed by. Without waiting for the reply, he decisively returned to the room.

Lu Yizhou’s killing was clean and neat, not even a drop of blood had touched him, yet for some reason, he could smell the repulsive stench of blood coming from his own body.

He frowned. Going back to his lover like this was just like tainting him. Ellen was pure and hence Lu Yizhou should not touch him with the hands that had just killed others. The mere thought of it was already unbearable. He should take a shower twice to rub off the scent of blood before returning. Silently, he padded across the room, intending to check on Ellen first and also relieving the separation withdrawal that was hanging heavily over his chest.

Alas, when he opened the door to Ellen’s room and poked his head in, he found that the bed was empty!

There were no signs of Ellen anywhere!
