Chapter 475: 8.75 Don’t Look Back

Soul Swapping Ritual could only be carried out by the dark witch. Meanwhile, the body Lu Yizhou was occupying right now was a white witch and it contradicted his very core.

Every stroke forming on the ground felt like knives ripping his flesh apart. The pain was unimaginable, almost as if someone was cutting open his chest to pull his heart out.

Fresh wave of blood surged up his throat and Lu Yizhou vehemently swallowed it back down so as to not destroy the array. His whole body trembled in agony yet his hand remained as stable as ever.

When he completed the last stroke that connected the array, he felt it vividly as darkness poured into his pores and stained what was originally white. He had just regained his full power as a white witch yet now it was slowly getting corrupted. His blonde hair fluttered behind his back and from the root, a hint of black could be seen and still continued down to the tip.

Lu Yizhou almost wanted to laugh. It was like he had returned to the second world when he was still the corrupted Vampire King, yet now he was drawing power from the darkness just like when he opened the gate of the demonic realm as Jingxue-Jun. Fate really liked to play a big joke on him.

Standing up with slightly trembling legs, Lu Yizhou noticed that he had spent three and a half minutes drawing the array on the ground. The first step was done. Lu Yizhou closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His soul was still screaming in pain as the white witch’s core within him was tainted with black. Unable to suppress it anymore, Lu Yizhou turned to the side to cough out a mouthful of blood.

Second step, engrave the same array on the flesh of the sacrifice.

Third, the sacrifice would offer their blood to the caster of the array.

Only then would the Soul Swapping Ritual be completed.

Whirlwind formed under Lu Yizhou’s feet as he slowly left the ground. It was his white witch’s power, levitation. As if there was an invisible flight of stairs beneath him, Lu Yizhou took one firm step after another toward his unconscious lover.

All around him, the whole world was stagnant like it was watching the sacred ritual.

Deep blue light enveloped his body. With every step, he shook off his outer appearance. His limbs grew longer and taller, his hair shortened and the set of his jaws hardened, morphing his delicate features into a sharp masculine one. The dress on his body was also transformed into a simple set of shirt, jeans and outer coat.

This transformation was superfluous, Lu Yizhou knew. But ten years ago, his lover had met Irene. If they were to meet in this world for the first time, then Lu Yizhou wanted to face him with his real form.

Not as Irene, but as himself — Lu Yizhou.

This was the first time Lu Yizhou was in such close proximity to his lover. Due to the blood on his face, Lu Yizhou could not clearly discern his features but he knew... if his lover were to wake from his slumber, then his golden eyes would definitely gleam in a sharp and wicked light, followed by a devious smirk on the corner of his lips. Yet at the moment, he looked no different than a sleeping angel. A beautiful, melancholic angel.

"Finally..." Lu Yizhou pulled up the corner of his lips. "We will meet."

He raised his hand and light gathered on his palm only to materialize into a thin, delicately carved wand. Lu Yizhou injected the tip of the magic wand with his power and it flickered to life in a soft amber glow.

Without even batting an eyelid, he turned the tip to his own chest. A sizzling hiss rang out at the first contact, the sound was amplified under the absolute silence. Following it was the stench of burnt flesh. Blood oozed out of red lines forming on Lu Yizhou’s chest and his face rapidly drained of color.

Engraving the forbidden array on his body was even more agonizing than drawing it on the ground. With every line forming, Lu Yizhou could feel something withering inside him. The darkness grew larger and larger until it almost devoured the light. Lu Yizhou’s hair was almost black now and if he was still in Irene’s form, then she would look exactly the same as Maureen.

Blood surged up his throat and trickled down his chin yet his eyes did not falter as they were fixated on his lover’s sleeping visage. Just a little bit... Just a little bit more...

He finished engraving the array on his chest in less than twenty seconds then threw the magic wand to the side. After that, he gently tipped his lover’s chin up, exerted a little force to pry his lips open and melded their lips together. The blood in Lu Yizhou’s mouth traveled to his lover and he firmly kept their lips locked until his lover’s throat bobbed lightly.

Under the gentle embrace of the moonlight, the soul swapping ritual tied the two of them together.

Crimson light surged out of the array from the ground to the ceiling, forming a separate barrier around them. In the next moment, Lu Yizhou’s consciousness was sucked away by a powerful force and when he came to his senses, his ears were filled with a mournful scream like ones from the pit of Hell. The air around him smelled like blood and the lips that pressed against him were faintly trembling.

Lu Yizhou tried to move his body to no avail, there was a string of chains holding both of his arms beside his head. In an instant, he knew that the ritual had succeeded.

"Foolish..." A deep male voice resounded. It was, unmistakably, Lu Yizhou’s voice but the one who said it was...

It was indeed a little weird to open his eyes and find that he was only less than an inch away from his true form. It was just like looking in a mirror. However, the redness on the corner of his eyes, the irrevocable pain in his crimson eyes and the expressive fury reflected on his features, all of them were his lover’s.

Lu Yizhou showed a slight smile, his voice hoarse with a prolonged time of disuse. "Is that the first thing you’re going to say to me... Ellen?"

His lover — Ellen’s face twisted in the mixture of anger, pain and a tinge of amusement. In the end, he threw his head back and laughed out loud, hollow and desperate. The air seemed to vibrate along with his awakening and the ceiling shook fiercely as if it was going to collapse anytime soon.

"Do you know what kind of thing you’ve just done?" He asked sharply.

"I know..." Lu Yizhou could not move a limb, but his head could. He nuzzled closer into his lover’s cheek and closed his eyes. "I’m going to do whatever I can if it means freeing you from this cage."

Just in time, the Time Suspender’s effect ran out and the world continued yet again.

Pain shot through Lu Yizhou’s middle at the same time with Baines struggling to break free of the constraints of the white silk. The old servant’s face was filled with horror, especially as he saw the familiar forbidden array on the ground. Immediately, he knew that the worst case scenario had happened.

That woman was crazy! Baines cursed inwardly. Human beings had a strong inherent desire to survive. He had seen it through years of observing the players who entered this mansion. In the face of imminent peril, they would not hesitate to break the bottom line of morality to save themselves. They were selfish, weak and narrow-minded. But this... To sacrifice herself and voluntarily become a sacrifice, this was the first time Baines had ever witnessed something like that!

The alarm in his mind was wailing loudly. He had to leave this place as far away as possible, right now!

Alas, before he could even break free from the white silk, a dark shadow suddenly fell upon him, sending him freezing into shock. Lu Yizhou’s original body reached over 190cm. He might be the same height with Baines in Irene’s body but now, he easily towered over the other. Baines looked up to find a pair of frosty, hostile crimson eyes and his heart trembled in fear.

The ritual had succeeded and this man in front of him was Ellen, the master of this place!

They had engaged in a fierce fight every week yet never before had Baines sensed such a powerful pressure from the other. It was so overwhelming that trembles shook through his whole body!

A hand shot out to grip his neck, forcing a gasp out of his lips. Pale veins bulged out on his forehead and his expression contorted in fright. If Ellen exerted just a little bit of force... then Baines would be finished in an instant! There was no way Baines could win against him! Taking a desperate measure, Baines forced out the words with difficulty, "Are you sure... you can kill me?"

Ellen’s pupils trembled. He certainly knew what Baines meant by that. Lu Yizhou had made himself a sacrifice and swapped their souls. It meant that the one connected to Baines right now was him. It would be so easy to kill Baines, but if he did then Lu Yizhou would...

"Kill him." Lu Yizhou’s voice was strained due to the invisible tightness around his throat. He could not breathe properly and his vision started to swim with darkness. Yet there was no hesitation nor fear in his voice as he enunciated clearly. "Kill him, Ellen. Trust me. I have a plan."

He had gone through this before in the fourth world when he was Jingxue-Jun. At that time, he also used his own soul to erect a barrier and locked himself together with the cultivators who wanted Heimo’s life. He lost his life but in the end, his mission was declared successful and he returned to the rest station. He assumed that this time would be the same. It’s just that, to ask his lover to kill Baines would be the same as asking him to kill Lu Yizhou...

Oh how cruel fate was.

Lu Yizhou could not see his lover due to the blur in his vision yet somehow he could sense the pain and contradiction in him. He tried to soften his voice. "Don’t look back, Ellen. Kill him for all the heinous things he has done to you... Everything will be okay. Trust me, okay?"

Ellen gritted his teeth, his hand that was holding Baines’ neck trembled ever so slightly. Veins flared along his arms and his whole body was tensed like a taut bowstring. That was how hard he was holding himself back. In front of him, Baines smirked as though knowing his predicament. But before he could say anything, Ellen exerted force and — crack! Baines’ neck was broken just like that.

Even until his last breath, Baines’ face was still frozen in the state of disbelief, eyes snapping wide and mouth opening to form the unsaid words.

With an exhale, Ellen let go. The white silk could sense that the person it was trapping was dead and in an instant, it loosened up, causing Baines’ body to fall lifelessly to the ground.

The world returned to its previous silence. Ellen’s figure stood still. Amidst the darkness, his silhouette looked particularly forlorn and lonely. He clenched his fists, not daring to look back. His quivering lips parted. "Hey, say something. You told me to trust you..."

There was no answer. In fact, he could not even sense any other presence aside from himself.
