Chapter 417: 8.17 How Is It?
She chuckled deeply. "Tempting me, aren’t you?" She splayed her hand over Lu Yizhou’s hips and squeezed, pulling out a surprised gasp from his lips. "What will you do after you see me? Will you run away or..."
Her words made him frown. "Why should I run away?"
"Who knows?" The naughty hand continued its endeavor to press against his firm yet soft abdomen. Lu Yizhou had a startling suspicion that his lover might have liked his waist a little too much, otherwise why would she be so fixated on that particular area? "Maybe because I am scarier than the ghost over there? Look at how much she fears me..." Her voice drifted close until it was whispered right into Lu Yizhou’s ear. "What should I do if you react the same way?"
"That’s an absurd thought." Even the mere idea that he would somehow be afraid of his lover was enough to make his lips curl down in disapproval. He tried to convey it by grasping the hand on his stomach and interlaced their fingers together. And then, he brought it to his lips, murmuring, "Try me. So you will know that all you’re thinking is nothing but foolish."
There was no answer for a few seconds so Lu Yizhou focused on peppering kisses on his lover’s dainty fingers one by one. She was a little cold, thus Lu Yizhou puffed out warm air and rubbed her hands between his to warm her up. It was then that he noticed that all her nails were black. Upon closer inspection, the color did not look like it came from nail polish — did nail polish even exist in this era? — but rather it was naturally black. The intense dark color against her pale skin was stark and somehow, sent a pang of pain straight to his gut.
...Exactly what kind of thing had she experienced in this house?
When his lover spoke again next time, her voice was quiet and bereft of the mirthful tone that always accompanied it. "How can you be so sure?"
"Hmm..." How should he say it so that his lover would believe him? "Did you hear our conversation out there about my identity?" He asked. If she did, then she would know that the one Lu Yizhou was talking about was — wait, did she even know what NPC and player mean? Most importantly, did she know that the house she was living in and her world in general was only a game setting?
"Yeah, I did." Came her curious reply. "So?"
Lu Yizhou couldn’t detect any confusion from her voice, or any signs that she might have questions. It seemed like he had to wait until they got closer first before he could ask anything. "Then you should know that I came here to search for something. I lied when I said I did not know what I was looking for. It’s you... The one I seek for has always been you."
There was a little hitch on her throat. "Me...?" And then, she abruptly burst out into laughter, Lu Yizhou felt the rich vibration of her chest from his back, it sent butterflies to his stomach and made him feel a little lightheaded.
And then she took a deep, steadying breath as if to steel herself. "Alright."
"Alright...?" Lu Yizhou’s heart soared and his voice was full of tense anticipation. Would he finally be allowed to see his lover in this world? Would they finally...
Every cell in his body was practically buzzing from excitement but he firmly held himself back, even as she pulled her hand from Lu Yizhou’s grip to cover his eyes, even as she slowly guided him to turn around and finally face her.
Lu Yizhou blinked, his long lashes tickled her palm. This close, he could catch a faint whiff of cold fragrance from his lover. Mildly spicy but sweet nonetheless. It was familiar but at the same time, unlike anything Lu Yizhou had ever smelled before. It sent a rush of adrenaline up to his head and he swallowed, his throat turning dry all of a sudden. Heart thundering, his lips parted, voice slightly breathless. "Milady...?"
"Patience, beautiful." And oh, her voice sounded close, so close that Lu Yizhou could practically feel her breath fanning across his cheeks.
His entire body tensed, senses attuned to the presence that was hovering over him, almost dominating in its nature. He was overly conscious of every single movement she made, her eyes that raked across him, dark and perusing. Amidst the dark, he wondered if they would shine like the predator that was watching over its prey? But oh, Lu Yizhou had no idea who was the predator between them. Was it him, who was laying low and waiting for her to come close... or was it her, who lurked within the shadows?
Lu Yizhou startled lightly when the arm around his waist tightened to pull him close until their bodies were flushed against each other. Stripped of his vision, his other senses were heightened in exchange, especially the touch. The sensation of his bountiful chest pressing against her was... electrifying, it knocked the air out of his lungs. Lu Yizhou clenched his fists, firmly keeping it by his side and craning his neck up, almost instinctively to chase after the source of the breathing.
She was leaning closer and closer... Lu Yizhou had somehow expected it coming but he still flinched when those icy cold and chapped lips landed on him in a feathery kiss.
Lu Yizhou sucked in a surprised air and it felt like he had just inhaled a lungful of chilling mist. Cold permeated his chest, battling against his own rising temperature and sending shivers down to the tip of his toes. His lashes quivered wildly and the hand covering his eyes suddenly shook. The gaps between the fingers loosened, giving Lu Yizhou just the smallest crack to see those golden eyes for the very first time.
Lu Yizhou’s breath stilled, eyes wide and unblinking. From such a close distance, those golden eyes filled his entire vision, it was all-encompassing and consuming. Demanding every drop of his attention. Her eyes were piercing, almost glowing in an eerie light. Less honey, more fire. Their radiance was breathtaking and even though they did not move, the lustre within seemed to shift, twinkled, as though hit by the shards of sunbeam. The pupils that reflected Lu Yizhou’s face were not quite human. In fact, they were more like slits... just like a beast.
Dark lashes framed her eyelids and when she blinked, they fluttered like the gentle flap of a butterfly’s wings. Upon seeing the shock in Lu Yizhou’s eyes, they curved into crescents, crinkling,
"How is it, my lady?" She whispered. "Fear me yet?"
Lu Yizhou scoffed. "Never." And then in a swift movement, he caught his lover closer by wrist and surged up, crashing their lips together in a bruising kiss that was tinged with the smell of death and blood.
