Chapter 385: 7.75 Set You Free

Moshe’s basecamp was built on a mountain hill, surrounded by wild forestation as far as one could see. It was so expertly hidden that no one would have expected that a majestic fortress sat in the middle of it, protected by high voltage fences, armed guards and trained watch dogs.

It took approximately half an hour for them to get there.

The gate swung open as soon as their car approached and Moshe rolled down the window. "Boss!" The guards inclined their heads low, reverent. The difference between these people and the ones back in the training center was like between sky and dirt, unable to be compared. Now Lu Yizhou was convinced that this was how Moshe’s men were supposed to be.

"Good work." Moshe nodded. "Are you guys treating our new guest well?"

A malicious grin spread across their faces. One of the guards answered with a pleased harrumph, "Of course, we can’t have him drop dead so easily just like that. His life is not in danger anymore but we are still keeping him in a sedated state. We can have him ready whenever you want, Boss."

"I want to talk to Thirteen first. Tell him to wait for me in my office. Ah." Reminded of something, Moshe leaned sideways to show Lu Yizhou, his lips tilted into an amused smile. "Say hi, this is Aiden. From now on, he will be joining us officially."

The men didn’t question their Boss at all. They merely raised a brow, intrigued at this man who could ride in the same car as Boss and more than that, sit right beside him. They had never heard of the Boss’ pet before, but they could tell for certain that this man wasn’t just an ordinary member.

"Welcome, Aiden." They offered a succinct greeting but still courteous nonetheless. Lu Yizhou inclined his head in acknowledgement.

"Now, now... Let us go in." Moshe waved for the last time and rolled up the window. Kaede honked once before driving the car past the gate. The building was just like a massive prison, Lu Yizhou mused. It had five stories and still not counting the underground floors. The walls were dominated mainly in grey and white, giving off a gloomy and oppressive feeling. "I would like to give you a tour but unfortunately—"

"Mn, I know you have important matters to take care of," Lu Yizhou smiled softly.

Moshe paused at being interrupted midway. The corner of his eyes twitched as he eyed Lu Yizhou with not so little amusement. "I swear, you’re the only one who dared to cut me off mid-sentence and still live to tell the tale. Anyway, I will tell someone to bring you to Regius. Half an hour at most, do you hear me?"

"Yes." Lu Yizhou nodded. "It’s already more than enough. Thank you, Master."

Moshe cooed softly and scratched his chin like he was a huge puppy. "Look at you. Only calling me ’Master’ when you have something to ask. What a sneaky pet you are. I still remembered the way you ignored me back then..."

Lu Yizhou caught Moshe’s fingertips between his teeth and bit down on it lightly. Closing his lips around the slender fingers, he rasped in a low, deep voice, almost purring. "This pet will gladly receive whatever punishment Master will bestow onto him."

He resisted a wave of smugness at the shudders that raked across Moshe’s body. Before Moshe could say anything in retaliation though, the car rolled to a halt. "We have arrived," Kaede chimed in and cleared his throat.

Lu Yizhou pulled away with a wet pop. Giving Moshe one last smile, he opened the door and stepped out of the car first. In an instant, the guard dogs that were spread all over the area perked up and bared their fangs at him, growling and barking. They went wild so sudden that the guards, who were holding their leashes, were caught off guard. A particularly large Dobermen managed to slip free and lunged straight toward Lu Yizhou in an instant with its teeth bared. Everything happened in less than two seconds!

"Watch out!!!"

Li Yizhou only saw a flash of black fur and sharp teeth from the corner of his eyes and he instinctively tilted his body to the side and caught the dog’s neck squarely with his bare hand! His eyes gleamed coldly as he looked down at the large Dobermen whose hind legs were dangling in midair. The dog released a whimper, ears folded back in submissions. Its companion, who had witnessed its fate, grinded to a halt a meter away from Lu Yizhou, snarling and agitated.

"Lu Yizhou!" Moshe grabbed hold of his arm, his eyes wide and unhinged. "Are you alright?!"

The guards hastily moved to drag the guard dogs away and berated them harshly. The owner of the one in Lu Yizhou’s grip approached them with an apologetic grimace. "Oh my God, I am so sorry! Are you injured?"

"No." Lu Yizhou handed the dog over. "Please take better control of the leash in the future."

"I am really sorry!" The man bowed again and again, especially toward Moshe whose expression was quietly thunderous. "I swear this has never happened before! They have been trained to attack only by command or if they sense something off!"

The corner of Lu Yizhou’s lips twitched. He had no idea whether this was because he used to be an eagle beastman but ever since then, animals seemed to be especially aggressive toward him. In the previous world, the female protagonist, Maia’s messenger bird was scared out of its wits when it caught sight of him and now, Moshe’s guard dogs were acting the same.

Lu Yizhou turned to Moshe and just as he expected, the latter had an intrigued look on his face as he scrutinized Lu Yizhou from head to toe. Lu Yizhou couldn’t help but sigh. He knew that look. Moshe must be itching to dissect him to pieces to relieve his doubts. Lu Yizhou hadn’t even gotten the chance to explain the incident with the bomb to him yet because he had mostly been dozing off during the journey here.

"Later," he said in a low voice only the both of them could hear.

Moshe’s brows knitted lightly but in the end, he let out a sigh. "Fine. But I will really break your legs if you evade my questions later." His lips curled into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "Mark my words, pet."

They parted ways after that. Moshe was going to listen to Thirteen’s report and deal with Hector after that. Whereas Lu Yizhou was led by a guard down to the dark basement. The air was damp and sweltering, the uneven brick walls covered in molds and ants, and there was only a small yellow lightbulb that illuminated the narrow hallway.

The whole scene looked straight out of a horror movie.

He wrinkled his nose as the pungent smell blasted in front of his face. It was like the combination of human’s excretion, urine, sweat, blood and other fluids mixed into one. If he hadn’t had a strong fortitude, he would have vomited the contents of his stomach right now.

The guard chuckled at the look on Lu Yizhou’s face. "Disgusting, right? Everyone can’t stay here for more than five minutes without retching. You have a very remarkable self-control."

Lu Yizhou merely nodded at that, unwilling to open his mouth to speak. The door behind them slammed close and just like that, the flow of fresh air was cut off. Lu Yizhou already had chills running down his spine being here for less than five minutes. For Regius, who took pride in his appearance, to have stayed here for almost a week, how much agony had he gone through? Moshe really knew how to pick the suitable punishment to make his enemy wish for death.

"He’s there." The guard jutted his chin toward the innermost cell. "I will leave you two alone. Feel free to call me if you need something."

Lu Yizhou had to squint his eyes to make out a small lump curling on the corner of the narrow space. He almost couldn’t recognize Regius anymore with the state he was in now. Alas, what Lu Yizhou felt was not remorse at all. To see that face that was so similar to his previous character be painted with devastation was surprisingly satisfying.

Regius flinched at the sounds of approaching footsteps and curled deeper into himself, trembling. "No, no... I know my fault now. Please forgive me. I won’t do it again... please..." he mumbled incoherently.

Lu Yizhou opened the lock and got inside. Crouching down in front of Regius, he slowly took in the other’s whole appearance. Bruises dotted his skin and his luscious shoulder length hair was no more. Instead, it had been jagged into a mess as if someone had used a sharp dagger to chop it haphazardly. A chain was connected from the clasp around his ankle to the wall and the skin around it was bruised and bloodied, proof that Regius had tried to escape a few times before.

He looked so wretched and broken. How... pitifully lovely.

The corner of Lu Yizhou’s lips curled upward. Amidst the dim atmosphere, his eyes slowly glowed crimson. "Look at me."

Regius stiffened as he slowly, slowly lifted his head. A pair of lackluster green eyes peered out through the tousled and filthy hair. They widened in realization as soon as Lu Yizhou’s silhouette was reflected on them.

"Y–You... Aiden!" Regius scrambled to his knees, banging his head to the ground over and over again. The hair-rising thud of flesh being hit resounded across the cell. "I am sorry, I am really sorry for what I have done! I regret it! I truly regret everything!" He sobbed brokenly even as blood oozed out of his forehead. "Please... Please tell Boss to spare me. I beg you! I–I won’t even appear in front of you again! I will make myself scarce from this city!"

"Do you want to be free?" Lu Yizhou asked in a soft tone.

Regius’ head snapped up with a loud gasp, tears and snot running down his pale face. A flicker of hope appeared in his eyes and he lunged forward to grab onto Lu Yizhou with desperation of a dying man. "Yes, yes yes...! Please, I will do anything you ask me for! Please let me go!"

"Don’t worry." Lu Yizhou’s smile deepened. He reached out both hands to hold Regius’ head. His tone was so soft, bewitching and reassuring. "I know you have suffered. Everything will be okay, I will set you free now."
