Chapter 287: 6.47 Overwhelmed

Cyrus beckoned him to come over and when Jillian guided his horse to totter close, he tipped his feet off the ground and proceeded to fly by his side. Jillian’s eyes widened in shock and he subconsciously looked around in fluster. "You...!" Weirdly enough, everyone was acting like they noticed nothing. No, in fact, they were sneaking glances at Jillian instead. Either because of his identity or his strange demeanor.

"Don’t worry, General." Cyrus cleared his confusion. "People won’t be able to see me unless I allow them to or... they are children with exceptionally pure hearts and elderlies whose lifespan is nearing its end. That’s why you don’t need to act like this otherwise you will pull attention to yourself."

So it was indeed because he was acting weird. Jillian straightened up and schooled his expression, albeit he couldn’t help sneaking one glance after another to the flying dragon beside him. He had always been wondering... could Cyrus read his mind or was he just that easy to read?

"Earlier, you’re asking why the God of Darkness is acting unusual." Cyrus started speaking. They were heading to a familiar path, Jillian noticed. He was soon distracted by Cyrus’ words though, thus he merely grunted in affirmation.

"Listen well, General. There are six main elements that comprise the universe namely water, fire, earth, air, and lastly, light and darkness. They are supposed to balance each other out. Too much will become a disaster, too little will also cause disaster. Supposedly, Gods who embodied those main elements are prone to instability. Sometimes, they harbor too much power that they need to let it out a little bit, that’s why you have periods when it rains every single day, when the air is so hot it can burn your skin, when the ocean tide is high sometimes and low the other times, and also when the nights are longer than the rest."

Jillian recalled Regius’ feral look and swallowed. "Too much power... Is that what is happening to Regius?"

"Yes, the sudden surge of followers has caused the God of Darkness to get overwhelmed. If he doesn’t let it out..." Cyrus lifted his head and Jillian followed his line of sight to see that dark clouds had gathered in the sky above them, the obvious telltale of an incoming storm. Wind howled fiercely and Jillian bent down to calm his anxious horse, fingers brushing through its thick mane as he whispered soothingly into its ear. His brows furrowed in apprehension. This horse had accompanied him through countless battlefields and was one of the sturdiest among its kind. What could have spooked it so much? "Best, he will mess with the weather and worse, he will destroy the world."

Jillian snapped his eyes up, eyes wide in horror. "Destroy the world...?"

Cyrus nodded with a somber look to assert his point. "For now, we can still retain him but sooner or later, our power will not be able to hold him back anymore."

Jillian clenched his fists, his mind running a thousand miles per second. If he wasn’t wrong, Izher had said earlier that he had seen this coming. Had he expected that Regius would... lose control of himself? Was that why he suggested the mass prayer to be done on a small scale first? Heavens, there was no way Regius wouldn’t know something like that. Certainly he would know... so why? Why would he still go along with Jillian’s suggestion?

Jillian blanched as a sudden epiphany came to him. Was it because of him? Was it because he suggested it and that’s why Regius couldn’t bring himself to refuse? Had his good intentions brought Regius harm...?

"Cease your nonsensical thoughts." Cyrus suddenly blurted out, breaking Jillian out of his reverie. The ivory dragon sighed helplessly. "He’s right, you indeed tend to overthink by yourself. Rest assured, as long as Luan and I are still here, no harm will come to this world. However, I am not too sure about the God of Darkness himself."

Jillian’s heart abruptly seized by an inexplicable fear, so strong that his voice shook lightly when he spoke. "Will something happen to him?!"

Cyrus offered him an indecipherable look. "That will depend on the God of Plague and you, General."

"Me?" Jillian asked incredulously. "But..." He was only a human. What could he do? What could a mortal like him possibly do to help Regius? He choked on his breath when he recalled the wild thing Regius had done back there, as well as Izher’s words "I don’t believe I can calm him down by myself."

D—Don’t tell him...

Cyrus hummed, once again catching on the line of Jillian’s thoughts. "That’s right, General. I am glad that I don’t have to spell it out for you. That will be mortifying to us both."

"But—But..." Jillian felt even dizzier and his face was so hot that steam could burst out of his ears. He had no idea which was more embarrassing; for Cyrus to accurately guess what Jillian was thinking about or the idea that he should... should do ’that’ with Regius and Izher.

Jillian hadn’t even gotten any experience with one person and all of a sudden, he ought to engage in a three-way intercourse?! How was one supposed to do such an intimate thing with two people at the same time?! "I..." Jillian wheezed and he wasn’t ashamed to admit that he was close to breaking down. "I don’t know how—"

Cyrus pointed to the left and Jillian subconsciously guided his horse there. A familiar pathway opened up in front of them and Jillian started. Wasn’t this area close to Grandmaster Dynn, the doll maker’s house? What were they doing here? Cyrus landed on the ground gracefully and Jillian numbly jumped down from his horse, tugging the reins along as he trudged behind Cyrus through the long winding alleys.

The deeper they went, the darker the atmosphere seemed. Jillian’s goosebumps flared along his arms and he couldn’t help but look around the decrepit surroundings warily. There was just something here that made him feel uneasy. In spite of that, he didn’t catch anything suspicious at all. Strange...

"We are here." Cyrus turned into a dead end and there Luan was, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. "Luan, how are you?"

Luan silently nodded. He took over the horse from Jillian and gestured toward the moldy brick wall.

Jillian blinked. "You want me to..."

"We have put a ward around here that’s connected with the place I talked to you about." Cyrus explained and reached out one hand to the wall and Jillian’s eyes flew wide when he saw Cyrus’ hand went through it! "You only need to pass through the wall to get there. The God of Darkness and the God of Plague had been waiting for you on the other side."

Jillian stared at the wall in front of him numbly. This location was perfect. It was desolate so people wouldn’t witness someone disappearing into the wall and freak out because of it and even if someone did see, they had gotten used to the seer who was said to practice witchcraft. With the rate of apathy here, no one would even care if they saw one strange thing or two. He suddenly recalled a few months ago when he had bumped into Cyrus and Luan before he even brought Regius home. It couldn’t be...

They couldn’t have been prepared for this moment all along, could they?

Jillian took a deep breath to center himself. Regius was waiting for him. Regius needed his help. That alone was enough to push him forward. He nodded in thanks toward Cyrus and Luan before reaching out toward the wall. Instead of a solid surface, his fingers only went through air just as Cyrus had demonstrated earlier. He gulped.

Well, here goes nothing...

Jillian gritted his teeth and rushed forward.

"Ah." Cyrus exclaimed softly as he watched Jillian’s back disappear beyond the wall. "I forgot to tell him something important."

Luan gave him a questioning look.

Cyrus huffed out a sigh. "If he goes through an extended amount of time being intimate with a God — wait, we are talking about two Gods here — there’s a huge possibility that his body might reconstruct itself." He couldn’t help but giggle which sounded more like the sounds of teeth clicking together. "Hey, Luan, how do you think the plot will change if Jillian becomes a demigod?"
