Chapter 181: Pull Me Out The Train Wreck [1]
[KAWAI]
"Dusha... don’t worry," Kosta reassured, his voice steady as he looked at his erasthai and then at the Lycan king, Zaffuto Hinata, who was seated in his position, his silence golden as he watched amusedly.
He looked like was having the most fun of all the people around them. Well, that wasn’t a far stretch for a man who had been used to watching the madness evolve and get out of control.
The King had been right earlier today... He loved a bloodbath and right now, the bloodbath would consist of his son, the person he had been waiting for for so many years. Or was the king just being himself this time?
What of his fatherhood? What of all that had happened? And lord Sadako? Oh, it was something that they had never bothered with.
Lord Sadako looked a little relaxed, probably because he knew deep down that the king would never hurt Tamiko. But he would hurt Kosta. And hurting Kosta would equal hurting Tamiko. Was it worth the risk?
"What the fuck?" Danny asked as he stared at the mess before him. This was not fucking real. It looked like some fucked up simulation and he hated the Lycans for making his Tamiko go through this kind of shit again.
"Careful young wolf," someone wanted but Danny was too far gone to even think straight. His eyes were on Tamiko, his brother and best friend. He knew that there was something that was happening to the Lycan and he couldn’t quite place a hand on it just yet.
For a moment, Danny thought that he had read the room wrong, but surely he couldn’t have been that wrong, right?
’Maybe I’m overthinking?’ Danny thought as he tried to relax.
The Lycans were too busy cheering.
They were loving the audience and right in front of them, as Kosta was whipped to the other side of the podium, to make sure that he didn’t do anything with his erasthai, he had the unfortunate pleasure of watching the love of his life go down.
It all happened so fast and strangely, the first person to make it to where his Tamiko was at, was the wolf he had spent the past few months being frenemies with. It was sad and wild at the same time, but this was a mess that he had yet thought possible.
"Dusha!!" Kosta shouted as he struggled off the reins that had been bound on him. The chains were heavy and as he tried to burn them off of him, he felt weaker and weaker. This wasn’t how the day that had begun so beautifully was supposed to end.
The Lycan chief struggled against those chains, and even though he was getting hurt and risking his life in the process, he had not managed a thing. Even in the midst of that mess, the Kawai citizens still wildly cheered on.
"He is pretending to faint so we can have mercy on him. I have seen rats like him my whole life," Minister Inara said as she glared at Tamiko who was laying limp on Danny’s lap.
It was a scene that was haunting in magnitude as it was lost in the endless bells that were ringing.
"Stay with me. Don’t leave me here, brother. Come on, stay with me, please," Danny pleaded as he shook Tamiko. He ripped Tamiko’s shirt off, oblivious to the blue birthmark that was glowing on the young Lycan’s body.
The kid was slowly fading away and only Danny could see it.
In the near distance, the Lycan king who had been seated calmly on his seat, made the first move, but it wasn’t to come towards his son, no. It was to see clearly what the hell was happening.
Lord Sadako was watching in silent defeat too, as he couldn’t be seen favoring the young Lycan who had murdered one of their own in public.
It was a state that no one alive or dead would have wanted to be in and the only one with the power to make it all stop, was seated on the edge of his seat watching cleanse with an uncomprehending face like he was waiting to see what was happening.
"Try the mate bond, Igor. Try to tap into him with it, come on man. Do it, for him," Danny begged and Kosta tried. He really did and Danny saw it too, but it wasn’t enough, the chains were too powerful.
The magic in them was constricting, the kind that only a Hinata would be able to break through.
Tamiko was a Hinata, but he wasn’t able to breathe through chaos because it wasn’t the chains that were hitting him. It wasn’t the chains that had gotten him panicking. It wasn’t the chaos that reminded him of a past he had been too brave earlier with.
It wasn’t the chaos that had made him feel like life was not worth living anymore. And it wasn’t the chaos that had made him feel like this was some sort of a fucked-up test from his father.
"Don’t... he can’t, Danny. Please don’t make him," Tamiko forced out as he snapped in and out of consciousness.
He was worried about his erasthai even though he was the one hurting and Danny stared at his brother as if he had truly lost his mind, and truly, that was the only thing that could explain all of this, there wasn’t a thing that Tamiko wouldn’t have done for Kosta and it’s pretty obvious.
"Stop the fucking bells!!! STOP THEM, YOUR MAJESTY!! PLEASE!" Danny begged as the bells kept ringing louder and Tamiko kept snapping in and out of consciousness.
It was like nothing was going to save them other than the king and the Lycans let out laughs as they watched the mere beta wolf try to compel a wish for their king. The Lycan king wasn’t that naive to give in, right?
"Oh, look at this one, a beta wolf. If it had been that the wolves are never to be murdered on Lycan lands, you would have joined them here," Minister Inara said wistfully as she motioned for the guards to drag Danny from Tamiko.
For them, Tamiko was playing games with them and faking it all. The king could see the sheer horror on the face of his son’s best friend and he wanted to act, but at the same time, he needed to see if there was a will that was strong for his son.
So, he did the thing that could fuck up his relationship with his son.
He knew it was not just, and that he had to save his son, but that his son had been adamant with him just the previous day and the king was not that trusting of his son’s suddenly changed allegiance.
He loved Tamiko and he knew his son loved him. But he also knew that his son was dangerous and couldn’t be pinned down like that. King Zaffuto was betting everything he had now and it wasn’t fair, but also it was something that he had to do.
Perhaps he just had to wait and hope, right?
"No..." Kosta breathed in pure horror as he felt his masked scent fading.
