Chapter 162: Maybe I Am The Problem
Chapter 162: Maybe I Am The Problem
[KAWAI]
"You didn’t have to kill him," Tamiko growled slowly at his father, the disappointment making a show in his tone. He had never wanted to fight like he was right now. He had pleaded with his father but all his pleas had gone unheard.
"You can make that decision when you become the king. But until I am king, I will do what is best for this kingdom. Now be a good guest and finish the food on your plate or you might not get to join me for dinner next time," King Zaffuto warned his son, the apple of his eye, coldly.
He loved him so much it hurt, but he was a king too and he had to do what was best for his people. Then again, there was no denying that murdering Hanzo Senior in the most brutal of ways and sending the images in all the Lycan mind links was insane.
It was the worst way of fucking up the people of Kawai and Tamiko couldn’t believe what he had seen.
It was like he was witnessing a monster be in front of him and yet again the monster was someone he loved too much to even consider a monster. His emotions and his mind were at a stalemate and it was then funny to him.
"What happened to listening to me?" Tamiko asked, his tone cold like he didn’t care anymore when he cared about his father. He had insisted that his father not murder Hanzo because then it would potentially cause an uprising and a revolution, but the king was the king.
King Zaffuto had thought hard about what he had done and according to him that had been the only thing that he could do at the moment. He had to save his son and he had to make sure that everyone stayed clear of hurting the most precious thing in his life.
What Zaffuto had done was a warning that the Lycans of old times knew of a little too well. Touching Tamiko was not something anyone who loved life would’ve considered.
The king had skillfully alienated his son and at the same time, he had pointed targets at his back. But then he was immortal, and he would forever be there to make things right for him, he would always show up for his dear son no matter what happened.
"Why should I? You said it yourself. You are a rogue Lycan in my kingdom. You don’t accept that you are my son and that I love you and would burn Kawai for you. So why should I listen to you?
"Have you ever heard a king listen to a rogue just because they have seen each other? By all accounts, you should be dead, kid. So, tread carefully," King Zaffuto said and Tamiko chuckled humorlessly.
He was finally seeing the dark side of his father and instead of being scared by it, he was just amused. This man was truly dangerous to the realm, and there was no doubt about it. And yet even then, Tamiko wanted to see more of the king.
He wanted to know what his father had always been like firsthand. He wanted to know whether his father would accept him openly. Then again, that all depended on him, Tamiko.
He had been the one who had insisted that the king not say a word about their bond. He had pushed King Zaffuto to the limits and now there was a price to be paid for it. The head had started rolling and that would be the first or the last of them.
Oh, how Tamiko knew that too.
"Then kick me out. Why should you keep me here? You said it yourself. I am a rogue and you have no need for me. Do it. Kick me out of your precious Kawai," Tamiko said and Zaffuto growled at him before he slammed his fists against the table, breaking the table into a perfect half.
The sound was so loud that everyone in the palace flinched. But Tamiko wasn’t even bothered by it; it was almost like all of this meant nothing to him. He just wanted to get through the day and his father’s tantrums would not amount to much either way.
It was a risk he was taking, one that could screw him over one too many times but then what else was there for their young prince? He had to strive and live the life that he needed to, and right now, there wasn’t much of a life for him to be living with the way that he was staring at his father.
"Looks like you already have your answer. I’ll be off then. I wouldn’t want this rouge to keep pestering you now, would we?" Tamiko said, making sure the press on the wound that his father was already nursing.
It was a low blow, something that Tamiko himself knew he shouldn’t have done, but he was stubborn, just like his father. There was nothing he wouldn’t do just to make sure that things were right.
Nothing would ever be the same and he knew it. So, all he had to do was wait to see how long this would last, otherwise, they were screwed.
"Don’t you move an inch, Hinata," King Zaffuto growled and Tamiko stared at him with a smirk. He was driving his father nuts and he was enjoying every bit of it.
This was just him reminding the king that they could play the long game for the longest time. It didn’t matter that they would be on different sides because, at the end of the day, they would still be father and son.
"If you’re not going to listen to me; then why should I listen to you?" Tamiko asked defiantly.
"Don’t start—" Zaffuto growled and Tamiko chuckled.
"I begged you to spare his life because that was the only way to protect your credibility as the king. I was okay with whatever came for me, but you just had to kill Hanzo and send everyone the vision of what you did.
"Now everyone will be questioning you and everything you stand for. I wanted what was best for you!" Tamiko said and this time the king stared at his son incredulously. There was just no way that his son was always the one tonight and protecting people.
He wanted to shout and let his anger out but a part of him knew that this was a reaction that Tamiko had been forced into with the years and years of torment he had endured. It was like the shit was grilled on his son and Zaffuto felt his heart break for his son.
He was the most powerful king out there and yet he wasn’t able to make his son feel secure without worrying.
"Oh... son. I’m so sorry, my Kaito. I’m really sorry I didn’t find you sooner," King Zaffuto said, the rage on his face disappearing, and in its place was the warmth that he had always strived to give his son.
It was breaking his heart that his son was so broken by Grealor to this point.
Oh, but Zaffuto would never forgive the Grealor wolves.
"I’m so sorry, my little angel," King Zaffuto added as he pushed the split table that was standing between them aside and rushed to pull his son into a hug. He knew his son needed it more than anything.
"I’m here now. Papa will make everything better, I swear it, my sweet angel," Zaffuto said reassuringly.
