Chapter 150: The Song of The Unhinged

A portal was all it took for Tamiko and his family to be out of Grealor. Danny, how he had insisted come along, was not sure where they were beheaded, but he trusted his best friend to make things better.

Granted, Tamiko hadn’t exactly been the sanest of the bunch, but this time, he was the one person that Danny trusted with his life. Maybe that was a lot given what Tamiko had done to his family.

But then it wasn’t like there was anything they could do about it right now, yeah?

"We’re home," Kosta announced, and Danny stared at the Lycan chief, not sure what the fuck the man meant by home. Then again, home had had so many different meanings for them over the years.

Home had once been Grealor and now they were out in the middle of nowhere. Danny didn’t trust Kosta and he wasn’t going to lie about it. He knew that the man may have changed for Tamiko, but Kosta was the devil and Danny knew it.

The man couldn’t be trusted at many points in time and it was even a miracle that the mad king was willing to let things be like this. Or maybe it’s because they were on the same page this time.

"Welcome to Kawai, kid," King Zaffuto said to Danny who was lost for a moment.

It took him a minute to process what the king had said and when he did, all he let out was a slow breath. It was like he was suddenly aware of all the risks that came with the Kawai kingdom and boy was it not pretty ever.

This kingdom had made the epistolary books on the worst devils look like saintly books. This kingdom was a different kind of hell and Danny wondered if he was to be eliminated.

When Tamiko had insisted that Danny come along, Danny had seen the way the king had stared at him like he was just a pesky little shit that would drag their weight. It was not a pleasant one and it had made Danny feel chilly then.

He had wanted to reconsider staying in Grealor because frankly dealing with Gabriel Grealor was way safer for Danny than dealing with the man who had made the goddess keep her distance from her very own people.

Shit was real in so many ways and it was scary as fuck. What kind of reality was this for them?

"Uhh... Thank you?" Danny said even though it came more like a question. He honestly wasn’t sure if the time was morning or evening.

This was crazy.

There was lighting all over the place and even though they were currently in the bushes of Kawai, the same bushes that wet weight at the center of the kingdom — not that Danny knew that — it was still crazy in some way.

"I think I should go back home, Tamiko. This place is not for people like me," Danny added and Kosta let out a snicker this time. He had watched his erasthai smile and Danny for the longest time.

He had listened to everything Tamiko said and how it had involved every mention of the bastard wolf.

Oh, but Kosta had considered smacking Danny in the face just to remind the elf that just because he was Tamiko’s best friend and then that he was going to be having it easy on this de of the realm.

Kosta despised Danny and there was nothing that would change that. He hated the way the man had been everything for his erasthai. He despised the fact that when he had left for a moment, Danny was all that Tamiko could think of.

It was like Danny was Tamiko’s world and Kosta didn’t like that one bit. He wanted to honestly strangle the wolf and Danny could tell that too. Perhaps that’s why it was so easy for Danny to want out.

If the Lycans didn’t kill him because he was a wolf, the Kosta would definitely wring his neck for always being close to Tamiko. It wasn’t that hard a task and boy was it something that made Danny want to run away, literally.

"What? But we just came here. I still haven’t shown you around this huge place. Besides, if you leave, I will be so lonely," Tamiko pitted and Kosta glared at Danny who was at a loss for words.

On one end was his best friend and the man he considered a brother, and on the other end, was a very pissed Lycan chief who hated the mere fact that Tamiko had chosen to come with Danny.

It was written on Kosta’s face, and if Tamiko knew that, he just chose not to see it, because the king snorted at Kosta’s face. Oh, he was an open book when it came to the people he despised and by was it interesting.

"I don’t think I’m wanted here," Danny said as he looked at King Zaffuto and the Lycan chief. The mad king was wearing a smile on his face, one so creepy that it was bound to scare even the souls of the dead.

The history books had always known and mentioned that the dead were glad that King Zaffuto was alive. It was not something that people came across on a daily basis and it scared the living daylights out of the werewolf beta.

"Turns out you’re not as dumb as I thought you were. Goodbye now, and see you never," Kosta said as he shooed Danny away and Tamiko sighed.

He had known that Kosta and Danny were not on the same page and it was even more obvious with the way they were both glaring at each other.

This was supposed to be a good moment, but the hostility between Kosta and Danny wasn’t going to go away anytime soon and, frankly, Tamiko should have expected that at some point.

"You really don’t want me here, do you? At first, it was just speculation but now, I am certain you just hate me so much, yeah?" Danny asked and Kosta stared at him blankly as if he was respecting the same words he had voiced to Danny just a moment earlier.

This wasn’t going to be the easiest of things but surely, they could find a way around it, this time, right? Or was there more that they needed to do?

"Come on, guys be nice to each other," Tamiko said softly and they stared at each other like that was something that wouldn’t ever happen in this lifeline.

Danny despised Kosta and there was nothing that even Tamiko could do to change that. It was crazy how things had changed so fast and perhaps there had to be something, no?

"To him? Absolutely not. I’d rather choke on spikes," Danny said definitely and Kosta cackled before he cast a spell that got him holding spikes in his hands, they were shredded, but they still had the same effect.

If Danny had taken these, he would have been dead even before he choked. But then again, that didn’t seem to be a Kosta problem because Danny wasn’t important to him either way.

This man needed to get out of their lives as soon as yesterday and Kosta was more than willing to do it alone if Tamiko was not going to do it for the both of them.

"Here, have your fill," Kosta said as he handed the spikes to Danny who took them like he was dead serious about what he was doing right now. He looked like he was more than willing to help Danny if the man thought it was something hard.

Maybe Kosta had lost his mind when they were in Grealor or maybe he was not opposed to the idea of Danny choking on the very thing that could kill him. It wasn’t normal. But then what the fuck was normal ever between them anyway?

"To be free of you? With pleasure," Danny said once all the spikes were on his hands and Kosta cast a spell to get more just in case Danny didn’t choke enough on the ones he had handed him.

Oh, he despised Danny and he was more than willing to do whatever it took to get rid of the beta who was Tamiko’s best friend. This was insanity at best, but perhaps this was the only way for them to get some peace here, right?

"Until the next life, Tamiko," Danny said as he threw the spikes into his mouth ever so casually.

"And yet everyone in the realm calls me the crazy one," the king sighed amusedly.
