Vampire: World of Blood
Chapter 223 223: Defeat After Defeat Until We Reach Victory

*BOOOOOM*

"Shit....

Merciless said, as he dodged a rapidly approaching arc of blackness, a scythe-like cut in a crescent moon shape so precise, it cut space and time. It came fast, and without mercy, matter separated in its path, slicing away many of the skyscrapers in its wake.

But Merciless was quick enough to dodge, sacrificing his physical form for better movement.

*BUZZZ*

The sound of lightning erupted as Merciless shapeshifted into pure electricity, and the attacks came from the distance phase right through him, spearing him from being severed in two; however, that soon changed.

A flying orb of darkness came in front of him; of course, Merciless was mercilessly maneuvering around it in desperation, his form like liquid moving in accordance with his will, but there was a problem. As he moved, the black orb followed him like an attached tail connected to his form, and the messed-up part was that he could not shake it off; it was for some reason always faster than him.

And to make things worse, one was not enough... so more came. Fourteen, then twenty-eight. And then it simply continued doubling without end, without restraint. It was not that the entity in question was just spamming these orbs of darkness at him like a mindless barbarian; it was more like he willed it to be so, as reality itself demanded their multiplication.

With each duplication, their presence grew twice as vast, twice as powerful, and twice as fast; it was basically an endless cycle of superiority over what came before.

And with every increase in their status of being, the greater always looked down upon the lesser, progressing without end, doubling without end; the status increase itself could only be called a miracle. A ceaseless march toward an ever-ascending peak, where the next is always twice the last.

And then that is when it happens.

A massive explosion erupted as the dark energy collapsed, triggering a supermassive rupture in space itself. Matter unraveled, ceasing to exist, and even immutable records of existence within its range were filtered away... until there was nothing.

And so Merciless was erased. Snuffed out in an instant, as if he had never been, killing him on the spot.

"Fuck... yet another fail."

Merciless said, his hands gripping his throne in pure utter annoyance; this was the 38th time he had used motherhood law to peer into the close future, to see his fight with the protector.

Every vision he saw was at a different time; however, what he saw every time was his death, because in none of these visions did he come out victorious in the slightest way whatsoever.

"In the first vision, I died without even knowing how; the moment he went to face him at the alter doors, the vision just ended."

"The fourth time, he transformed into a fairy and tossed me into an illogical blackhole, as that thing seemed impossible to get away from; even when I tried to teleport, it just extended to the very place I teleported to, making it impossible to dodge or to surpass."

"The twenty-second time, he got sliced in half, and with every attempt to heal his injuries, that very injury he took was so critical it goes beyond his own healing capabilities, making it impossible to heal."

It did not take a genius to see what was at play here.

"Sigh... so that the protector authority ha... I don't know how it works yet, but it seems to be an authority you cannot dodge, much less overcome by normal means. It's like his attacks are always potent enough to the point that they can't be overcome otherwise."

Merciless stood still, deep in thought, trying to figure out how to deal with the Protector. He had assumed that using the Throne would give him an advantage, but he was dead wrong. Even with the ability to see through the eyes of his descendants and predecessors, it wasn't enough. Against overwhelming power, his attacks weren't landing; it only proved just how vast the gap was between him and the Protector.

As a result, he let out a heavy sigh and said.

"Why is it so damn hard to kill that bas...

However, he stopped mid-sentence, a single word triggering a memory he slept upon, as it came tracing back on his tongue again.

"Kill...

The word lingered in his mind as the memory replayed in his head; it was one of his very first moments after stepping into the supernatural world.

"Kill... Kill... Kill... Hahaha... I just... I just need to kill him."

And just like that, an idea struck him, so reckless, so insane, that even considering it felt like madness. But if there was even the slightest chance it could work, he had to try. No hesitation. He needed to act upon it.

"STELLA!"

He shouted.

Immediately, the voice of the Mothership responded.

{Yes, Father?}

"You've already read my mind, haven't you?"

{Of course. I am an extension of your will. Every choice you make alters the continuity of your story. The very fact that you saw your future self means you did defeat the Protector. Your fate was already set the moment you looked into the continuity}

Said Stella, pausing before she continued yet again.

{However, you are different, Father... strange, even. I can sense fate's influence on you, but it's not the same as fate that governs everything else. It's as if you exist in two places at once, both within fate's design and outside of it... the best way to describe it is like your everywhere, but the current you is nowhere as far as fate can tell, as such how you move, how you think, how you decide, effects the entire universe in odd ways, as the system cant keep track of you}

{Because of that, you're able to disrupt the very system that dictates how things should unfold. Most beings are bound by fate's threads, trapped in a predetermined path, but you... you move through it freely, like a chess piece that refuses to stay in its assigned place. You're part of fate's grand design, yet at the same time, something else is pulling the strings, something beyond fate itself. That makes you an anomaly, an unpredictable force that even fate cannot fully control. As for what that force is, I don't know}

Merciless smirked. Stella had confirmed what he already suspected. If his future self had spoken to him, then that meant he would make it there. Which meant this battle was just another obstacle, one that he was destined to overcome. No matter how impossible it seemed right now, he would find a way.

"Yeah… you're right, going by that logic. The Protector will fall; his death is inevitable. If my plan doesn't work now, then it'll work later. I just have to keep going. Everything's already been decided anyway, as that's what my continuity dictates as immutable."

{Indeed, Father. You were bound to win from the very beginning. Otherwise, a linear continuity would not exist. The real question is... who is the one operating the system of fate that governs you}

Merciless paused, but deep down, he already knew the answer. The image of a certain hazel-haired woman flashed through his mind, smiling mischievously at him

"Brunhilde…

"Hehehe, so this is your gift, hehehe... so this is what you mean by... we already won... Hehe, the gift of inevitability."

A slow chuckle rumbled in his throat. She was his greatest weapon. Even when the odds were stacked against him, it didn't matter. As long as she was on his side, he was fated to win, not by luck but by his own choices. He was a wild card in the grand system of existence.

"This... this just gave me even more hope."

Merciless cracked his knuckles, his grin widening.

"Alright then… Let's see if this crazy plan of mine actually works."

{Should I activate Motherblood's Law}

"Yeah!! Let's see if this plan has a shot."

{As you wish, Father}

With that, Merciless peered deeper into his own continuity. A new path revealed itself, a new choice. If this worked, it would lead him straight to the outcome he desired, or rather the outcome that has already been decided, one that could not be stopped, one that could not be denied, and one that could not be changed, fixed, or altered, well, at least not by sisters.

RUMBBBBLLEE!!

Inside Merciless subjective reality, something unprecedented was about to unfold, something so monumental that it would alter the very foundation of his fantasy world. Not even he could have predicted what was coming.

His subjective reality began to tremble.

The vast void, an endless expanse of nothingness that housed his fantasies, his memories, and every creation his mind had ever conjured, shuddered under an unseen force. It was an empty canvas, an infinite abyss without structure, without form.

Because it was just nothing.

At the heart of this void floated a single sphere.

Within that sphere existed a universe... a lone, linear reality governed by time.

From the perspective of this void, however, all things were visible, all things malleable. Here, beyond the confines of space and time, Merciless could shape existence as he saw fit.

And yet… something entered.

Something foreign.

A force that did not belong to this realm of thought pushed its way in, shaking the very fabric of this boundless nothingness. In the distance, across the sea of emptiness, it appeared, not as a crack, but as if something was being painted into existence where nothing had ever been.

A colossal blue ring.

It was so vast, so incomprehensibly massive, that the sphere of creation, the very universe within the void, seemed insignificant beside it. The ring glowed with an ethereal blue light, radiating an energy beyond imagination. Then, from its luminous form, something even more unfathomable emerged.

Eyes.

Countless eyes spilled forth, leaking from the ring's presence like an unstoppable tide. These eyes did not belong to this world. They were alien to Merciless reality, something unreal intruding upon the very concept of his existence. Yet, despite their impossibility, they seeped into his subjective realm, merging with the void in ways that defied all logic.

And as they spread, something else began to flow alongside the nothingness.

Not surpassing it, rather accepting this nothingness as its greater, as such it corresponded its worth, and contributed its own existence to this subjective reality.

Giving its power to this realm.

And what leak into everything that was, is, and will... and beyond those three notions, was...

Primordial Aether!
