Chapter 89: Call Me Daddy

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Call Me Daddy

"Lady, this is a press conference, and besides, with his punchable face, I’d recognize him even if he turned to ash."

Shen Yanran was grinding her teeth, clearly harboring a grudge against Li Feng from their previous encounters in Huacheng.

Wang Jin’er blinked twice, handed the fruit salad over to Shen Yanran, and passed her the tablet, "Do you have to be so bitterly vengeful, as if you were the one marrying him?"

"Ptui, you’re my wife; let that stinky man roll aside."

Shen Yanran, with her tomboyish manner, wrapped her arms around Wang Jin’er and planted a kiss on her face. Wang Jin’er pushed Shen Yanran away, "Go eat your fruit salad."

Wang Jin’er picked up the tablet and replayed the message, her brows furrowed. Shen Yanran, who was enjoying her fruit salad, looked over, "What’s wrong, Jin’er?"

"Nothing."

"Your brows are almost scrunched into a ’chuan’ character. Jin’er, do you think this guy did it on purpose?"

"Hmm?" Wang Jin’er turned her head, but Shen Yanran had already entered gossip detective mode, leaning in, "Look, this is the situation now, the Li Family and your family have agreed to an arranged marriage, and both sets of parents have given their blessing. Given the power and status of your two families, this marriage is pretty much settled."

Wang Jin’er nodded in acknowledgment.

Shen Yanran continued, "And this arranged marriage is different from the previous ones, as the Li Family intends to send someone to your family as a live-in son-in-law."

Wang Jin’er hummed in response.

Shen Yanran added, "Based on what we previously understood, Li Feng is Li Uncle’s illegitimate son and doesn’t hold much status in the Li Family, even to the point of being unacknowledged. However, he is still Li Uncle’s biological son, and you’re the only daughter in the major branch of the Wang Family."

"Becoming a live-in son-in-law in your family could be killed with one stone."

Wang Jin’er nodded again; she understood why her parents had agreed to this marriage— not only because of the political alliance between the Li and Wang Families but also because her father’s branch was the legitimate line of the Wang family’s major branch, which now had only her as the single daughter.

The Wang Family, an aristocratic lineage over many generations, inevitably favored sons over daughters. Her father’s actions were to secure the position of the major branch, and by welcoming a live-in son-in-law, if there were future descendants, they could inherit the major branch and prevent its divergence to a different line.

Although Li Feng was an illegitimate son, his blood relationship to Li Uncle was enough to deter those coveting the power of the major branch of the Wang Family. Wang Jin’er was aware of her parents’ intentions and had quietly accepted the arrangement without protest or complaint.

"But now the issue is, this Mr. Li plays the rebel, not willing to obediently enter your house as a compliant live-in son-in-law. I’m thinking this is his counterattack."

"Counterattack?"

Wang Jin’er’s brows were knit together.

"Exactly, counterattack. Think about it, according to the information we gathered before, Li Feng has just been dumped by a wealthy woman, and he doesn’t have much of a career, either. Other than being Li Uncle’s son, what does he have? He couldn’t not be the live-in son-in-law if he wanted to; otherwise, with just his stubborn pride, what does that amount to?"

"But now, he’s become the chairman of Sihai Group. He’s climbed from the nadir of his life straight to the pinnacle. Although I don’t know how he became the chairman of Sihai Group, the group’s reputation is significant after all. Tell me, can he still become a live-in son-in-law now?"

Wang Jin’er listened to her best friend Shen Yanran’s confident analysis. Was it just to avoid becoming her husband that he went to the lengths of becoming the chairman of Sihai Group?

Could one simply decide to become that, even though Sihai Group was currently in a difficult situation? However, a skinny camel was still bigger than a horse.

"Daddy."

At that moment, a crisp, childish voice came from the press conference on the tablet. The scene on the screen jittered, then the camera panned.

"Daddy, Daddy."

Beneath the camera lens, an adorable two-year-old little lass toddled along, making everyone’s heart clench with worry she might fall.

"Whose child is this? She’s quite cute."

Shen Yanran leaned in and watched the cheerful little lass, clicking her tongue in admiration.

Snap.

The little Lolita, suddenly scrambling up the steps, lost her footing and lunged forward, making onlookers’ hearts clench.

Li Feng pushed back his chair and, with a swift stride, stepped forward to pick the little girl up off the ground. His cold gaze swept over Zhang Xue below, who was dressed in professional attire and had carefully made herself look glamorous and radiant.

"Daddy, Bao’er missed you so much."

The little Lolita’s big grape-like eyes were brimming with tears, instantly melting Li Feng’s heart. Although this daughter wasn’t his by blood, he had raised her from an infant, attending to her every need. Li Feng could say he had invested all of himself into her.

No matter what Zhang Xue had done, this child was innocent.

"Daddy missed you too."

"Mr. Li, may I ask if this child is your daughter?"

"Mr. Li...."

The reporters below surged forward with their microphones, eager for this explosive news. The recent headlines about the change of ownership at Sihai Group had been fiery enough, but this was even more sensational.

Li Feng stretched out his hand to shield Bao’er and descended from the stage: "Move aside."

"Go."

Bai He, in charge of security, signalled with a wave of his hand. Several men in black suits swiftly stepped up to clear a path, escorting Li Feng from the scene.

"Li Feng."

Zhang Xue, blocked by the guards, looked up and called out loudly to Li Feng.

"It was her who brought the child here."

"Excuse me, ma’am, is that child yours with Mr. Li? What is your relationship to him?"

Li Feng turned his head to look at Zhang Xue being surrounded and questioned by the reporters, waved to Bai He, and then walked out of the conference room holding Bao’er.

"That must be Li Feng’s ex-wife."

Shen Yanran watched the chaotic scene, clicking her tongue and musing aloud: "Showing up here with the child, is she regretting the divorce, planning on reuniting?"

Wang Jin’er threw the tablet to Shen Yanran and suddenly stood up from the couch.

"Hey, Jin’er, what are you going to do?"

In a luxury car.

Li Feng patted Bao’er gently. The little girl had already fallen asleep in his arms. Li Feng lifted his gaze to Zhang Xue: "Zhang Xue, what exactly do you want to do?"

Zhang Xue looked up at Li Feng, who was holding the child: "Li Feng, I know I was wrong. Can you forgive me just this once, for the sake of our child?"

"I was really bewitched by Qi Shaobin, but I swear, from now on, I will be a good wife to you."

As she spoke, Zhang Xue stood up wanting to sit next to Li Feng. Although she couldn’t be said to have nothing now, compared to a few months ago, the once Qingcheng CEO was now so desolate she was left with only one villa and nothing else.

Moreover, she was laden with debt. The money she had invested in Sihai Group wasn’t just the five billion she had gotten from Li Feng; she had also borrowed a significant amount from relatives and friends of the Zhang Family. Zhang Xue was now mired in debt.

By marrying into the Qi Family, she hadn’t profited a single penny. Instead, she had lost everything, down to the last bit of her savings.

Li Feng watched Zhang Xue’s movements and raised his foot, kicking her away.

"Don’t come any closer. I’m disgusted."
