Chapter 790: Chapter 790: The Feud is Set
Sea City bordered the river, and Li Feng drove the car to the riverside, where he saw a bodyguard standing guard.
"Young Master."
Li Feng nodded his head and immediately boarded a motorboat to enter the river. There was a riverboat on the water, and as the motorboat approached it, Li Feng climbed up the ropes, making his way onto the cargo riverboat.
"Young Master."
"Where is he?"
"In the cargo hold."
Li Feng didn’t go down to the cargo hold; the smell there was far from pleasant. Instead, he instructed the bodyguard to bring the person up on deck.
A moment later, Li Jingwei and his two sidekicks were hoisted up from the cabin, all bound up like rice dumplings, their mouths stuffed with rags, unable to make a sound. Their eyes, however, were not covered, and upon being lifted out of the cabin, they immediately saw Li Feng.
Mmmph. Mmmph.
Upon seeing Li Feng, Li Jingwei struggled fiercely.
Thud, thud. As the ropes were lowered, the three dumpling-like figures fell onto the deck with a heavy impact.
Li Feng walked over and turned Li Jingwei over with his foot. Bending down, he removed the rag from the other’s mouth. Once freed, Li Jingwei immediately started cursing loudly.
"Li Feng, you bastard, I am the legitimate son of the Li Family of Longyou. How dare you treat me like this—it’s an insult to my Li Family of Longyou..."
Li Feng looked at Li Jingwei with a cold sneer.
"And then?"
"Li Feng, it seems you don’t understand the gravity of the situation. Release me immediately, or my Li Family of Longyou will never let you off."
"Though we may not belong to the same Li Family, as far as I know, you as an illegitimate child are not held in high regard by your branch of the Li Family. You dare treat me thus—do you think anyone will protect you?"
"Hmph, my father happens to be the present Family Head of the Li Family of Longyou. If he were to come and confront your family, what do you think your fate would be? Even your father might not offend our Li Family of Longyou for the sake of a bastard like you."
"Do you know who my dad is?"
Li Fengtu suddenly asked Li Jingwei.
Startled, Li Jingwei faltered; he hadn’t really looked into this: "Hmph, no matter who your dad is, you should know there are some people you simply cannot afford to offend."
Li Feng chuckled: "It seems you really are hopelessly stupid, daring to provoke me without even inquiring about my background?"
"Should I say you’re recklessly bold, or just utterly foolish?"
In the past, the Seven Families and Five Surnames were influential—the sort that even the Royal Family sought to marry into. To represent one of the Seven Families and Five Surnames was to represent the elite lines, and although they have declined by now, the legacy of their ancestors was still powerful.
The legacy of one’s illustrious ancestors was enough to draw plenty of admiration.
After all, Yan Country was a nation that honored its ancestors; its people held various beliefs, from Buddhism to Taoism to other religions, worshipping countless deities, but the most revered were always the ancestors.
In ancient times, once a Family grew in wealth, they would try to trace their lineage back to even more eminent ancestors. Similarly, in modern times, both nouveau riche and smaller families do the same.
Having a distinguished ancestor was something to boast about.
It was this aspirational mentality that led to the re-emergence of the Seven Families and Five Surnames, who were once again held in high esteem. With such notable ancestors and deep heritage, claiming the legacy of being a millennium-old household naturally positioned them high above the rest, exuding grandeur.
This Li Jingwei was like a child of the Li Family, held in too high esteem, arrogant in his ways, unchallenged, surrounded by flatterers, making him feel invincible, convinced of his own prominence as a legitimate son of the Li Family of Longyou.
Many heeded him, but Li Feng did not.
"Release them."
Li Feng instructed his subordinate bodyguards.
"Yes."
A few bodyguards stepped forward and used a knife to cut the ropes, Li Jingwei and his two companions immediately broke free and scrambled to their feet.
"Li Feng," Li Jingwei declared with a burning rage in his voice, "I won’t forget today’s humiliation. I don’t care who your father is or what background you have; we’re now enemies."
Li Feng watched Li Jingwei, who could still talk tough, with a light chuckle.
"Escort them on their way."
"Yes, Young Master."
The bodyguards, fierce as wolves, pounced on them; Li Jingwei instantly panicked: "Li Feng, you wouldn’t dare...!"
Li Feng’s bodyguards didn’t hesitate at all. They only obeyed Li Feng’s commands and promptly tossed Li Jingwei and his two bodyguards overboard into the river.
"Young Master, are we just letting him go like this?"
Li Feng smiled faintly.
"There’s a feast waiting for him. I hope he can stomach it."
"By the way, the Martial Alliance’s grand tournament is about to begin. Do any of you have any thoughts?"
"The Martial Alliance’s grand tournament, eh? If Young Master wants us to go, we’ll go."
Li Feng glanced at them. These men were orphans his grandmother adopted from outside; they grew up with Li Feng and had received guidance from his grandmother as well. They could be considered Li Feng’s fellow disciples.
"There are three ways to obtain a spot in the Martial Alliance’s grand tournament: first is recommendation, where a Martial Alliance Elder can directly recommend someone to participate in the national finals. Members of the Martial Alliance can also recommend one to three individuals for regional qualifiers based on their status."
Li Feng got his place by recommendation.
"The second method is by invitation, but those who qualify for an invitation are all famed individuals or from Martial Arts Families; this option is not feasible for us."
"The only remaining method is through the registered martial arts schools of the Martial Alliance. As the promotion of National Martial Arts has increased over the years, the number of schools has grown significantly, making school selection the primary method of entry. Depending on the scale of the martial arts school, a one-in-a-hundred choice will be given a spot."
"Young Master, do we need to join some martial arts schools, then obtain spots through that route?"
"Mm."
Li Feng nodded, "Nowadays, most martial arts schools are flashy but lack substance, most of their students are there just for play. Even if there are some with real strength, they couldn’t possibly be a match for you. This path is actually reserved for some hidden figures among the people."
"There should be quite a number of martial arts schools in Sea City. You all figure out the division, as for how to seize these spots."
"Heh, just fight for it."
"Yes, Young Master."
Li Feng and his entourage promptly left the river; as for Li Jingwei in the river, apparently, he could swim, wasn’t in danger of drowning, and the river wasn’t wide anyhow, just a few hundred meters across.
Li Jingwei exhausted all his Qi before he finally climbed ashore, reeking so much that it was nearly worse than death for him.
"Li Feng, you wait for me."
Li Jingwei left with gritted teeth, accompanied by his two lackeys. He had lost his cellphone and wallet, and naturally, his exit was extremely pathetic. Eventually, he found Zheng Ren who helped him out of his misery.
Zheng Ren, too, had never expected Li Jingwei to be this wretched.
"What happened to you?"
"Don’t ask. It was all that damned Li Feng. Zheng Ren, you must keep today’s events to yourself. Do not breathe a word to anyone, especially not to that bastard Cui Boyu."
Zheng Ren nodded.
"Don’t worry, I won’t tell."
"Young Master, this is a new phone; the SIM card has been replaced as well."
Li Jingwei took the new phone, stood up, and dialed a number.
"Dad, it’s Jingwei."
"You still know to call back. Who on earth have you offended? You need to go and apologize immediately."
