Chapter 749: Chapter 749: Self-righteous
"Dong Xing, if I sell my shares to you at the price you suggested, they’re worth no less than a hundred and fifty billion. Since you want to force me out, I have a condition."
"Speak!"
Dong Xing looked at the old fox in front of him, and Dongfang Wenzheng didn’t beat around the bush, not having much to conceal at this point: "Once we sign, pay the full amount in one go."
"Deal."
Dong Xing fully expected Dongfang Wenzheng to make this condition, and with Dongfang Wenzheng’s shares in his possession, he’d be the solid major shareholder of Century Group, ready to oust Li Feng from the board at any time.
"However, I have a demand," Dong Xing stated.
"Please say it."
"Sign immediately."
Dong Xing insisted with finality, causing Dongfang Wenzheng to hesitate, looking at Dong Xing: "Dong Xing, to buy the shares I hold, it will take over a hundred billion in funds...!"
"That doesn’t need pointing out. I know. It’s just over a hundred and fifty billion, right? When we sign, I’ll transfer it to you naturally. Did you seriously think the Dong Family would be short on such an amount?"
Dongfang Wenzheng took a glimpse at Dong Xing, curling the corner of his mouth with a smile: "The Dong Family is one of the Eight Families, how could they lack money? Since you insist, Dong Xing, I’m more than happy to comply."
"Good, I’ll have someone prepare the contract right away."
After saying this, Dong Xing immediately stood up and left the private room, and Dongfang Ding watched him go to the door before returning to his father.
"Pa, what’s gotten into Dong Xing? A twenty-one percent stake converts to at least a hundred and fifty billion in cash; he just agreed to a deal just like that?"
"Is that a problem?"
"It’s not that it’s a problem, it’s just... too straightforward. This isn’t fifteen million, it’s a hundred and fifty billion. Even for the Dong Family, part of the Eight Families with several hundred billion in assets, surely much of their wealth is tied up in fixed assets? For them to come up with such a sum in liquid cash so quickly, they might have to sell properties or land to get it."
"Even with the Dong Family’s deep connections, they could take out a loan from the bank, but that would likely stop at several tens of billions."
Dongfang Ding was genuinely baffled. This was no petty transaction, and the deal had been struck before the meal even began; it seemed they wouldn’t finish dining before this transaction exceeding a hundred billion would be completed.
This was simply record-breaking.
"What can’t you understand? With a backer behind Dong Xing, they surely won’t lack over a hundred billion."
"Backer."
Dongfang Ding suddenly remembered his previous encounter with Xiao Mingyue at the hotel: "Hiss, he borrowed the money from that woman demon?"
"Where did he get the courage."
Dongfang Wenzheng gave a faint smile: "If the acquisition really succeeds, though we’ll earn a lot less, there’s still profit to be made. After all, Century Group is one of Sea City’s top ten groups, even a starved camel is bigger than a horse."
"But what if it fails?"
Dongfang Ding pressed.
"If it fails..."
Dongfang Wenzheng shook his head: "None of my fucking business."
Dongfang Ding exclaimed, looking at his father who just swore. But truly, it was none of his excessive worry; having sold off Century’s shares today, they were already out of the game, so whatever happened to Century Group was no longer any of their concern.
Dong Xing returned briskly: "Lawyer, the contract will be here shortly. Waiter, serve the food."
Having eaten and drunk their fill.
The lawyer arrived at Desheng Building, and Dongfang Wenzheng, without the slightest hesitation, signed the prepared contract but didn’t hand it over to Dong Xing right away.
Dong Xing, seeing Dongfang Wenzheng acting like an old fox, unexpectedly smiled and made a direct phone call.
"The contract’s been signed."
Seconds later, Dong Xing hung up and looked at Dongfang Wenzheng: "The money has been transferred into the account you provided."
Dongfang Wenzheng dialed a number straight away, and after a moment, he revealed a faint smile, his hand relaxing upon the contract.
"It’s been a pleasure doing business with you, Dong Xing. I hope we get the chance to work together again."
"Heh, there will be opportunities."
Dong Xing swiftly signed the contract with his name, signifying the transfer of Century Group’s twenty-one percent stake into his hands. Coupled with his prior acquisitions, he had become Century’s largest shareholder.
"Dong Xing, since the contract is signed, I’ll take my leave now."
Dongfang Wenzheng stood up and left, with Dongfang Ding following in suit. However, just as they stepped out of the private room, they ran into Li Feng.
"You...!"
Dongfang Ding, taken aback, stared at Li Feng. What a coincidence to bump into him again.
"Signed?"
Li Feng looked at Dongfang Wenzheng.
Dongfang Wenzheng nodded, and Dongfang Ding, utterly confused, watched his father make small talk with Li Feng. Damn it, what’s going on? Weren’t these two supposed to be enemies? Now it looked as if they were in cahoots.
"Pleasant cooperation."
Li Feng said to Dongfang Wenzheng, who replied with a touch of bitterness: "Pleasant cooperation."
Dongfang Wenzheng promptly left the private room, and Dongfang Ding, still confused, watched Li Feng. It seemed there were things happening he wasn’t privy to.
Li Feng stepped into the private room that was just vacated, facing the apparently pleased Dong Xing. Dong Xing had just downed a glass and looked up to see Li Feng entering.
"Heh, Mister Li, you haven’t left yet."
Li Feng pulled up a chair without any courtesy and sat down opposite him. Dong Xing, corners of his mouth turned up, mocked Li Feng: "You’ve lost. I’ve swallowed up all the stock Dongfang Wenzheng had. Now I hold more than thirty-seven percent."
"I’m the largest shareholder of Century Group now. With just one board meeting, Li Feng, you should know what fate awaits you."
"It’s not too late for you to come groveling to me."
Dong Xing squinted at Li Feng.
"Pa, what was going on at the doorway just now? Why did you shake hands with Li Feng? Why do I have the feeling that something’s off?"
Once outside Desheng Building, Dongfang Ding couldn’t help but overtake Dongfang Wenzheng to demand answers.
Dongfang Wenzheng looked at Dongfang Ding: "You’re not wrong, from the start, Dong Xing was doomed to lose."
"Eh? Dong Xing lost? How is that possible? By acquiring our family’s stock alone, it already exceeds thirty-seven percent, and there’s no way Li Feng’s holdings could beat Dong Xing. There’s just no chance for Li Feng to turn the tables!"
Dongfang Wenzheng sighed: "You’ve done the math correctly, but one detail is wrong."
"Huh?"
Dongfang Ding, puzzled, looked at Dongfang Wenzheng, unable to fathom his mistake.
"Pa, stop keeping me in suspense, tell me what’s wrong."
"Li Feng’s initial share wasn’t forty-two percent at all, so you’ve been mistaken from the beginning."
"Not forty-two percent...!"
