Chapter 628: Chapter 628: Hidden Disciple

The assassin had barely finished speaking when Li Fengtu suddenly sprang into action, flicking his wrist and sending the hidden surgical knife flying toward the assassin.

At such a close distance, the assassin had no way to dodge and was directly hit.

The assassin looked down at his chest and suddenly, the corners of his mouth lifted, as he pulled out the surgical knife that hadn’t penetrated his body.

"Tsk, tsk, that was quite sneaky. Almost got me there."

The assassin smacked his lips.

"The way you took out those assassins who killed little Zhuge, I’ve seen it. A coin piercing through the back and straight through the heart—your hidden weapon technique is truly admirable."

"Coming to see you, how could I not be prepared for a cornered beast’s fight? Unexpectedly, you did give me a little surprise."

"Pity, it was so close."

The assassin turned his gaze toward Li Feng, taking out a dagger from his body. At this moment, Wang Qian swiftly stood up and blocked in front of Li Feng.

"If you want to kill him, kill me first."

"Tsk, really loyal and righteous," the assassin sneered, advancing. Li Feng reached out and grabbed Wang Qian’s shoulder, using all his qi to pull Wang Qian behind him.

"I’m not at the point where I need a woman to take a knife for me."

"Tsk, tsk, still trying to act tough at a time like this? But I like it. Then I’ll kill you first and her after. Don’t worry, you won’t be lonely on your way down."

After the assassin spoke, he flipped the dagger in his hand and slashed toward Li Feng’s neck with a backhanded grip.

"Dodge it!"

Wang Qian, standing behind Li Feng, yelled aloud.

Splurt.

A spray of blood hit Li Feng’s face. He stepped back half a step, looking up at the assassin who had been pierced through the throat from behind, and then swept his gaze to the person standing behind the assassin.

This person was one of the three staff members who had been knocked out by the assassin earlier.

Thump.

Having his throat run through, the assassin was sure to die and immediately slumped to his knees. Wang Qian incredulously watched the scene unfold.

"He was mine; how could I let you kill him."

Hearing this sentence, a chill ran through Wang Qian’s heart. She had thought she was saved, but now she realized both men were cut from the same cloth. They were fighting only over who would get to kill Li Feng, hence the infighting.

Wang Qian locked eyes with the newcomer, who clearly noticed her and turned, striding over. Suddenly, with a fast step, he reached out and struck Wang Qian’s neck, and everything went dark for her.

Brother Feng.

Was she going to die just like this?

Li Feng twisted around to catch the collapsing Wang Qian, his brow furrowed as he looked toward the attacking assassin. The assassin, however, looked back with a sarcastic expression.

"The descendant of the Medical Saint, forced into such a sorry state by a petty world assassin. Won’t that be a face-loser if it gets out?"

"Li Feng, maybe you should just drop out of the Championship Challenge. With you like this, I really can’t keep face."

Li Feng looked at the other party: "Who are you?"

"Hey, don’t tell me you don’t recognize me. After all, back in the day, we used to sleep in the same bed in the Daoist temple and watched the girls bathing in the river together. You’re going too far."

Slept in the same bed, watched girls bathe together.

Instantly, the image of a rascally individual flashed through Li Feng’s mind.

"Chen Peize."

Li Feng reached out to grab the other’s face, but Chen Peize dodged backward: "Fuck, it’s been years, and you’re grabbing my face as soon as you see me."

"Did you get plastic surgery, or are you wearing a human skin mask? I need to confirm your identity," Li Feng said, looking at him.

"Fuck, isn’t my voice proof enough that I’m me?"

Chen Peize exhaled in resignation and tore off the human skin mask from his face, revealing a young boyish face.

"Believe me now?"

Li Feng looked at this youthful, absolutely genuine face. This guy was two years younger than Li Feng, apprenticed to a Taoist; his grandfather took him to the other’s Daoist temple, and they stayed together for more than half a year.

Since leaving the Daoist temple, they had not crossed paths again.

"Really long time no see. Did you come all this way just to find me?"

Li Feng stopped supporting himself and sat down; this time, his primordial energy was genuinely depleted.

Chen Peize pursed his lips.

"Find you? Why would I find you, am I the kind of person who has nothing better to do? I just happened to be passing by."

Chen Peize appeared haughty, yet matched with his eternally young face, he seemed not at all intimidating but rather kind of cute.

"Hey, what’s with that look? Are you not respecting me? Humph, with you in this state, I really can’t bring myself to bully the weak."

"What exactly do you want with me?"

Li Feng ignored the young man’s provocation. Back in the temple, this kid never spoke without offending someone, a classic example of a tough talker.

"I said it’s a coincidence, but you won’t believe me."

Li Feng never believed in coincidences; all coincidences were encounters with ulterior motives. Chen Peize smirked.

"If you don’t believe it, forget it. But to tell the truth, I did come for you. You’re the descendant of the Medical Saint, and I’m not too bad myself. I’m a descendant of the old Taoist, and now I’ve completed my apprenticeship. My master said I could participate in the Championship Challenge."

"Now you know why I came to find you."

So that was it: "I hadn’t realized you’ve done quite well for yourself, kid, even completing your apprenticeship."

"Spit, what do you mean ’completed’? I finished my apprenticeship ages ago, only my old man Taoist is too old, and if I don’t attend to his eating and drinking, I fear he’d starve to death. That’s the only reason why I came down the mountain a few years late," snorted Chen Peize.

Li Feng looked at Chen Peize. The Championship Challenge, somewhat akin to the Huashan Duel, was a grand ceremony of the world.

And that time, it seemed, was not too far off.

"You’ve come to join me in the Championship Challenge."

"Of course, I was full of anticipation, but now I’m a bit disappointed. Li Feng, you’ve changed."

Chen Peize looked at Li Feng.

"You’ve grown weaker. The love nest really is the grave of heroes. How can you compete with me now?"

"Ah, the loneliness of a master."

"Never mind, we still have half a year until our decade-long appointment. You have time to regroup and recover." Chen Peize suddenly stood up.

"As for those insignificant little assassins, I’ll take care of them for you."

Chen Peize put the human skin mask back on, making himself look more mature, and then took a mask out of the assassin’s embrace, putting it on his face, before confidently walking out.

"Oh, by the way, be careful lately. From what I know, this time quite a few reclusive families have come down from the mountains. Maybe if someone’s bored, they’ll come looking for you, just for the fun of a skirmish."
