Chapter 609: Chapter 609: True and False

Squeak!

Outside the alley, seven or eight black business vehicles screeched to a halt.

Whoosh.

The car doors were flung open, and a small squad of bodyguards poured out, twenty men descending from seven or eight vehicles, each fully armed and well-trained.

"What are you doing here?" A security officer directly confronted the aggressive bodyguards.

"Mmm-hmm, mind your own business."

The bodyguards pushed the intercepting security officer aside and turned to give an order:

"Okay, now seal off this area, no one is allowed in or out."

Xiao Gan issued the command directly.

"Yes!"

Under a large tree outside the alley, Zhu Jianjun, Chen Liang, and a third person observed the scene nonchalantly, continuing their game of chess, awaiting the outcome. These men were elite bodyguards from various families, clearly targeting Li Feng, since their sons were still in his hands.

"Heh, this Li guy is like a turtle in a jar. What do you think, will he resist or surrender easily?"

Zhu Jianjun was in a good mood, boldly making an aggressive opening move in their chess game.

Ye Yuan, sitting opposite, calmly moved his knight.

"Considering the audacious nature of this Li family kid, he most likely won’t surrender easily."

"Hey, I’m actually curious to see how he’ll escape this tight encirclement."

Ye Yuan’s tone was sharp as he aggressively moved his rook into a striking position.

Chen Liang watched the exchange with glee, thinking to himself that this military man from the Li family was in for a tough time.

He was pleased to see it unfold; after all, the ten major families were closely connected, and this kid had slapped their faces this time. Not teaching him a lesson would make them look weak.

The treaty previously signed with Li Mingrui might even turn profitable, especially since his son had been captured by the secret guards. No information would be released without a price.

However...

Chen Liang looked at the others; "Aren’t you worried this kid might do something drastic, hurt someone in the process? That would be a mess to clean up."

"Heh, cleaning up is Li Mingrui’s problem, not ours. We just set traps and don’t bury the bodies."

"Besides, that kid is not so indiscriminate. If he were really a brainless brute, he probably wouldn’t have survived till today. You worry too much,"

Zhu Jianjun said.

"Ah, this kid is quite crafty. It’s the perfect time to test his limits."

"Leave that discussion for later when you talk to him."

As the three continued playing chess and watching the unfolding drama, the situation in the alley took a bizarre turn.

The secret guards were calling for backup, but when the backup arrived and assessed the situation, they drew their guns.

Then...

Pop, pop, pop.

The fast-response backup suddenly turned on their allies, firing tranquilizer darts. The bodyguards, caught off guard, were promptly incapacitated, quickly subdued.

These bodyguards were numerically inferior to begin with. Sandwiched between Li Feng’s advancing Dragon Guards, the fight was over before it even began.

"Young Master."

Dressed in identical black suits, they approached Li Feng.

"An Xi sent you?"

"Mm, An Xi said to be wary of the enemy’s desperation, ’capture the leader to capture the gang,’ so she sent us."

The bodyguard explained.

Li Feng patted the man’s shoulder and smiled with a lift of his lips, "Let’s go."

Li Feng was then escorted out of the alley.

"We got him."

Xiao Gan, surprised, watched a group emerge, but before he could react, he saw someone raise a hand.

Pop.

A tranquilizer dart hit Xiao Gan, and he, along with a few bodyguards outside the alley, instantly collapsed.

Whoosh.

Li Feng and his group swiftly got into a car and sped away.

The three men playing chess also sensed something amiss, quickly crossing the street to investigate. Chen Liang crouched down and extracted a tranquilizer needle from a secret guard soldier, bitterly commenting, "This is quite the embarrassing defeat."

Zhu Jianjun’s expression darkened, "These guys talk big but didn’t anticipate this."

Ye Yuan, shaking his head with a wry smile, replied, "Who would have thought? Neither did we. I just found it odd, so I called reinforcements, thinking they were yours."

"Looks like you mentioned arranging some men against them earlier. It appears the vehicles and uniforms were theirs. Truly an oversight."

The three sighed.

However, they decided to downplay the incident, given its embarrassing nature.

At the Li residence:

Li Li rushed into the study, and Li Mingrui, sensing urgency but maintaining composure, asked,

"Has that boy been captured?"

Li Li gave a bitter smile, "Lord, the forces from the ten major families were defeated, utterly routed. The eldest young master left as if he owned the place, completely unchallenged."

"Unchallenged, what do you mean? Are the people from the ten major families incompetent?"

Li Mingrui was inexplicably furious.

He had wanted to give Li Feng a strong rebuke, to prevent him from becoming too arrogant.

"It was the eldest young master’s bodyguards posing as the enemy. They were completely in the dark, easily lured into a trap, ambushed from behind with tranquilizer darts, and the eldest young master was whisked away just like that."

Listening to Li Li’s recount, Li Mingrui opened and closed his mouth, imagining the scenario, rendered speechless by the turn of events.
