Chapter 527: Chapter 527: Neck and Neck

On the edge of the training field.

Li Yuncong had learned about Living Yama’s assessment content and then sharply inhaled a breath of cold air. Truly worthy of Living Yama, this assessment was likely to be of Hell Level difficulty.

According to past traditions, assessments were usually divided into multiple categories, and the initial assessment primarily focused on physical fitness. Although the intensity was much greater than that in the lower-ranking military, it was still within an acceptable range.

After all, selections of warriors had a complete set of rules and regulations, and Living Yama’s method obviously broke the norms.

"Ling Feng is running so slowly, he’s nearly at the very end. Isn’t he definitely going to lose?" round-faced Liu Nan watched the departing group, with Li Feng being left far behind by everyone. The difference was not just a little bit.

And this guy had the audacity to claim he could challenge everyone on his own. Is this how he plans on challenging?

Li Yuncong also frowned, turning to Yan Lie: "Instructor Yan, isn’t this assessment a bit too harsh?"

"According to past years’ traditions, the first assessment always focuses on physical fitness. You’ve added fighting and spear skill to it—this...!"

"I don’t see any problem with it. These people are not new recruits, nor is it their first day handling weapons. What can such a mere physical assessment reveal?"

"If they were just ordinary garrison troops, I would have no complaints. However, they are entering the special forces, and special forces need to be ready at all times. I want a pack of wolves, not a flock of sheep."

"Yes, Instructor Yan is right, but isn’t this their first time entering Guard Camp?"

Li Yuncong argued.

Yan Lie glanced at Li Yuncong: "Are you talking about those paratroopers? Since they are training under my command, they are treated the same. Moreover, they have had some exposure to weapons and combat training in the past few days."

Li Yuncong was taken aback. Just a few days of exposure, that wouldn’t account for much.

Instructor Yan probably knew about the bet already. This was clearly leaving no way out for Li Feng, but since the bet was a private matter, Li Yuncong couldn’t bring it up openly.

Yan Lie ignored Li Yuncong and continued watching the group—kid, let’s see how long you can hide.

Two kilometers later.

Li Feng, who was at the back of the group, was keeping up with the team, quietly calculating the distance he had run. His body was nearly warmed up.

This assessment had made him feel Living Yama’s full hostility, openly challenging his capabilities.

Li Feng had initially intended to conceal his abilities, but it now seemed impossible. Had the assessment remained the typical physical one, a slightly better performance by Li Feng would have sufficed. But with the modified Hell Level assessment incorporating fighting and spear skills,

it became difficult to hide one’s true strength unless Li Feng was willing to accept defeat.

Since he couldn’t hide, he decided not to.

Having spent half a month in Guard Camp, he had had enough, plus the past half month should have been enough to wrap things up outside.

Li Feng shifted his weight to his toes, suddenly picking up speed. A few breaths later, he effortlessly passed the second-to-last soldier.

Seeing Li Feng attempting to overtake him, the second-to-last soldier also began to accelerate. The assessment could be failed, but Li Feng had to win.

Li Feng’s surge forward directly influenced the rear of the group, causing a chain reaction of increased speed. No one wanted to be overtaken by Li Feng, and those being caught up had no choice but to speed up themselves.

Li Feng looked at these uncompromising warriors, slightly smirking. He accelerated again, and many were overtaken by him in response.

"Damn, can this guy speed up even more?"

"Has he gone mad? This is a five-kilometer weighted cross-country run."

The weighted cross-country run was hugely demanding on physical strength. If one couldn’t appropriately allocate their energy, even if they managed to finish the five kilometers, there was no point in proceeding with subsequent tasks.

"Let him pass, huh, he’ll be out of energy soon and naturally fall behind."

Other people nodded in agreement. Long-distance running wasn’t a sprint, where you could just burst to the finish line and be done.

"Li Feng is speeding up. He’s now passed over half the runners and caught up to the tail of the second group."

"Oh."

Li Yuncong looked toward the drone operator who was surveying from the sky, and couldn’t help but move forward to look at the footage captured by the drone.

"He’s still accelerating."

Liu Nan, who had leaned in, scoffed: "He’s speeding up like this, he’ll probably only last a few hundred meters before he’s cooked. This is a five-kilometer cross-country race, and he’s sprinting already after only half the distance? Is he stupid?"

Li Yuncong also felt that Li Feng was a bit foolish. Even if he led in cross-country, what use was it if he was exhausted and couldn’t continue?

Li Feng sneezed. Perhaps he was running too fast and caught the wind?

As he approached the increasingly nearer second group, Li Feng didn’t hesitate to start overtaking. The members of the second group also noticed Li Feng, their faces showing a bit of astonishment as well.

"Sorry, going ahead."

The people in the second group were much calmer, merely glancing coldly at Li Feng as he passed. None of them sped up to catch him; they wouldn’t let this Mr. Li set the pace again.

Without any suspense, Li Feng surpassed the second group and continued his furious chase about seven or eight meters behind the first group, which consisted of only four people, led by the burly Helian Ba.

"Hey, Helian Ba, I’ve finally caught up with you. If you want me to kneel and call you ’daddy,’ you’ll have to speed up. Want to have a go at it?"

Li Feng then twisted his head to look at Helian Ba.

"Ha, not talking? If you keep silent, I’ll take it as your conceding. Never mind then, just keep trailing behind me."

After saying that, Li Feng overtook him immediately. Helian Ba’s eyelids twitched and he accelerated involuntarily, refusing to give in. The two ran neck and neck, their eyes sparking with electricity as they made their way back to the field.

"Gosh, he actually ran back with Helian Ba? Can you believe it?" Liu Nan exclaimed in shock.

Li Yuncong was also slightly amazed. Li Feng’s stamina was unexpectedly beyond predictions; could he actually match Helian Ba?

"Helian Ba, how about 500 push-ups? Whoever loses barks like a dog. This is a separate bet, not part of the previous ones."

Helian Ba snorted coldly: "Fine."

The two reached the finish line almost simultaneously and then bent down together.

"Five hundred push-ups, start counting."

"Go Helian Ba, you can’t lose to Li the rascal."

Li Feng was speechless. This chubby face really needed a pinch, but Su Muyun, with those long legs, had actually shown up, making it impossible for him to stay low-key.

Li Feng drew a deep breath and slightly increased his pace.

Next to him, Helian Ba heard Li Feng’s counting and furrowed his brows. Had Li Feng been injected with some kind of super serum?

Five hundred.

Li Feng reached five hundred push-ups first and got up from the ground, turning his head to look at Helian Ba, who had slowed down a bit.

"It seems I’ve won, Helian Ba, don’t forget to bark like a dog."

"Damn it, how is this possible? Li Feng was actually faster than Helian Ba?"
