Chapter 524: Public Enemy
Chapter 524: Chapter 524: Public Enemy
"Why have you come back so soon?"
Wen Le saw Li Feng again in the barracks and looked on in surprise.
"What, you’re not happy to see me?"
Despite their limited interactions, this chubby guy really clicked with Li Feng’s temperament. To use his own words, the two were as close as distant brothers. Li Feng had decided to continue this relationship.
After all, "to be near vermilion, one gets stained red."
"Of course, I’m happy, but you’ve become the public enemy now. There are a few people who’ve sworn that when you return, they’ll make you see some colors."
Wen Le warned Li Feng as he pulled him aside.
"Oh, who is that, acting so arrogantly?" Li Feng asked Wen Le, looking bewildered.
"A few geniuses. Because of you, there were quite a few injuries this time, but there was also a small bunch who only got slightly wounded. To have sparred with the Living Yama without sustaining serious injuries, those are all tough characters. Plus, the day before yesterday on the parade ground, you openly insulted their intelligence. These people are all holding back a belly full of fire."
"They’ve claimed that unless you take off, if you dare to come back, they are going to show you what’s what."
"Isn’t King Yan supposed to have three eyes?"
Li Feng said.
Wen Le made a face. Is that the point? Just then, footsteps came from outside the barracks; the elite soldiers who had finished their evening training were returning.
As they entered,
they saw Li Feng in the barracks.
Leading them, a young man with short crew-cut hair and fierce hawk-like eyes coldly began, "Ha, isn’t this our paratrooper, Young Master Li? How could you bear to leave the infirmary? I thought you were going to keep clinging to Doctor Su’s thigh and never come out."
As he spoke, a group of soldiers walked up to Li Feng.
"What do you want? Just another group picking a fight with one person, huh?" Li Feng delivered his taunt with a hint of provocation, and Wen Le nearby swallowed hard, reaching from behind to pull on Li Feng.
Brother, it’s time to cower, don’t be tough.
This is the Guard Camp, not our home turf.
"Just you? We don’t need a whole group; I alone can take you down ten times over," a muscular bruiser stepped forward with a dismissive look in his eyes.
Li Feng looked at the big guy. His build did have a bit of the Han Dynasty Military Life about it.
"You up for a one-on-one fight?"
"It’s just Li Feng. Are you daring enough for a one-on-one fight? Pick any of us. I’m afraid some people talk tough but are actually cowards, only good for clinging to a woman’s skirts."
"Ha-ha, but now there are no woman’s skirts for you to cling to!"
Li Feng looked at these elites mocking him with a cold laugh, "This is the Guard Camp. If we get caught fighting privately, I really don’t mind, but I wonder if you can handle that."
Sure enough, as soon as Li Feng spoke, the expressions of these men changed slightly.
Li Feng was a paratrooper who could not wait to get out of there, but they were different. They came here to get into the Blue Sword; if they got into a fight, it was very likely that this guy would walk away, but they would be the ones sent packing.
Destroying their own future over such a piece of trash certainly wasn’t smart.
"Li Feng, you really are a rascal, relying on the fact that you’re a paratrooper, not afraid of a smashed pot, quite shameless indeed."
These people were also aggrieved. Paratroopers, they despised of course, for those were people without real ability or skill. But they had family backgrounds and, outside, they basked in limelight and adoration.
And they were just ordinary people.
It was just like a hatred of the rich; they despised yet envied them at the same time.
"Hmph, you’d be nothing if you weren’t born lucky, you piece of trash."
"Forget it, there’s no point in talking to trash like this. He’s just here to play; we can’t afford to offend him."
"Let’s break it up, break it up."
"Wait."
Li Feng looked at these guys who were speaking their chilling sarcasms and insinuations. Although he could easily ignore their words, letting them in through one ear and out the other, he never felt he’d been born into a good life.
He did have a father named Li Mingrui, but he had never once benefited from the man’s status.
Everything Li Feng had achieved to this day was all due to his own efforts.
Besides, him a piece of trash?
The people opposite him had already started dispersing, but when they heard Li Feng say "wait a moment," they suddenly stopped in their tracks and disdainfully turned to look.
"What’s wrong? Did I upset you, Young Master Li? Want to hit me?"
"This is Guard Camp, a place with rules. Fighting is too low."
"Hehe."
These men watched as Li Feng looked for an excuse, their contempt growing. If Li Feng had just thrown a punch, they might have actually respected him a little. However, he seemed to be playing petty tricks. If it hadn’t been for the sake of honor last time, they wouldn’t have been fooled.
"Let’s change the approach."
Wen Le turned his head to look at Li Feng, stepping back and suggesting that the wide world was theirs to enjoy. It was just a few taunts, not like it would cost them any flesh.
"Change the approach, how do you want to do that?"
Li Feng answered, "Rookie training, how about comparing scores?"
Damn.
Wen Le reached out and tugged at Li Feng’s clothes, pulling so hard that the collar choked Li Feng’s neck. Wen Le then furiously blinked at Li Feng.
"Cough, Li Feng, are you still high on meds? Sorry, folks, he’s talking nonsense."
"Stop pulling, do you want to strangle me or what?"
The others watching burst into laughter at the scene.
"You want to compare scores, with you?"
This Li Feng truly didn’t know whether he was coming or going, actually suggesting to compare scores with them. It was like a man on his deathbed trying to hang himself, as if his life wasn’t short enough.
What could he compete with?
"How about it? Not up for the challenge?" Li Feng looked at them and said.
"Speak up, how do you want to compare? We’ll indulge you. But since it’s a competition, there should be stakes, right?"
"Naturally."
"It’s said that there’s a weekly assessment during training. Let’s see who scores better on each subject. The winner gets to make the loser do one thing, anything short of murder or arson."
"Heh, making you kneel down and call me daddy, you’re okay with that?"
Li Feng narrowed his eyes at the one who spoke: "As long as you win, even if it means kneeling down and calling you daddy, what’s the issue?"
"Li Feng, if you’re a real man, you’ll stand by your word—you’d better not back out later."
Hawk Eyes stared coldly at Li Feng.
"My word is my bond. If I go back on it, you can call me a coward, and I won’t object," Li Feng said with narrowed eyes.
"Alright, then choose who you want to compete with from among us, pick anyone."
All those present were brimming with confidence. A paratrooper daring to bet with them was just inviting humiliation; any one of them could easily crush him.
Li Feng shrugged his shoulders: "What’s there to choose? I’ll take on all of you."
"You want to compare with all of us? That won’t just cost you one thing."
Li Feng squinted: "As long as someone scores higher than me, then I lose."
"Alright, we’ll just wait and see. Let’s hope you’re not just all talk."
The assembled elites said no more, leaving with sneers. This Li Feng was seeking his own doom; if they didn’t take him up on his offer, they’d be wasting his generosity.
