Chapter 425: 425

"Li Feng, where are you?"

Li Feng was still at the hotel when Wang Jin’er made the call. He turned and found a less noisy spot.

"I’m still at Century Hotel."

Wang Jin’er took a deep breath upon hearing Li Feng’s reply, "My dad asked me to call you. He said he’d like to have a face-to-face game, and for you to come back as soon as you’re finished."

"Okay, I know."

Having said that, Li Feng hung up directly.

Wang Jin’er listened to the dial tone on her phone, pouted her lips, and Wang Tiandao sat in the study on the tatami and looked at his daughter: "What did he say?"

"He said he knows."

Wang Jin’er walked over to the tatami: "Dad, could Li Feng really take over Century Group?"

Wang Jin’er hadn’t expected that in just a day or two without seeing Li Feng, he had done such a big deal, and without any prior indication at all.

"He didn’t tell you anything?"

Wang Jin’er pouted: "He didn’t tell me."

Wang Tiandao picked up a chess piece and considered for a moment: "The matter of your engagement should be scheduled soon. We can’t keep dragging it out."

Wang Jin’er had not expected Wang Tiandao to turn the conversation to the engagement, but she was no naive girl shielded from the world, clueless about everything.

Previously, the Li and Wang families had arranged a marriage out of mutual need; the Li family needed the wealth and influence of the Wang family, and the Wang family needed the burgeoning power of the Li family. She was the legitimate daughter of the Wang Family, while Li Feng was born out of wedlock—hence the arranged union with Li Feng proposing marriage.

But now the situation had slightly changed. If Li Feng became the Sect Leader of Century Group, would he still join the Wang Family as a son-in-law?

Originally, it wouldn’t have been a humiliation for Li Feng to join the Wang Family, as he was the son of Uncle Li but, after all, he was an illegitimate child and didn’t even grow up by Uncle Li’s side. Apart from bloodline relations, Li Feng had nothing.

"Dad, do you still insist on him becoming a live-in son-in-law?"

Although Wang Jin’er didn’t want to face this issue, it was one she could no longer avoid. She had feelings for Li Feng, and whether to marry or to have him join her family didn’t bother Wang Jin’er at all.

But with Li Feng’s character, would he contentedly become someone’s live-in son-in-law?

"Even if he has paid respects to that old geezer Chen Qinian and become the godfather of Century Group, he is still the live-in son-in-law of our family. That was the condition I negotiated with the Li Family."

"But, but...!"

"Ah, they say girls tend to become more outward-looking. We haven’t even gotten engaged, and you’re already turning your elbow out."

"Dad."

"It’s okay, I’m not some antique—I know what I’m doing."

Li Feng hung up the phone. Although Wang Jin’er hadn’t said a word, he could still tell that the hotel incident was probably spreading like wildfire throughout Sea City; he was likely to be recognized by many people tonight.

"Alright, it’s getting late, everyone should head to their own homes, find their own moms. Oh, and, remember to come to work on time tomorrow, I’ll deduct your salary if you’re late."

After saying that, Li Feng left and found a car to head straight to the Wang Family.

Knowing the way well, he arrived at Wang Tiandao’s courtyard where the butler stopped at the gate, letting Li Feng enter on his own. As soon as Li Feng stepped through the gate, the butler immediately closed it behind him.

It felt like the Banquet at Hong Gate.

Upon walking into the study, he saw his father-in-law reclining on the couch, with a small square table beside him properly set with a Go game board. Wang Jin’er was not in sight, probably having returned to her own room.

"Come up and let’s have a game."

"Father-in-law is asking me to come back so late just to play chess?" Li Feng didn’t hesitate to take off his shoes and join him on the tatami.

The father-in-law directly grabbed a black piece and placed it on the board.

"Is it wrong for me to play chess with you?"

"Of course not," Li Feng picked up a white piece and placed it on the board. After that, neither of them spoke, just continuously placing pieces, quickly moving into the middle game.

"You’re very familiar with Chen Qinian?"

"Not familiar."

Li Feng responded.

"Not familiar, then why don’t you explain why he would become sworn brothers with you, entrust his orphan to you, and even risk an entire Century Group?"

"Must be because he has a discerning eye and feels that I am very reliable, worthy of such trust," Li Feng didn’t reveal anything.

Father-in-law Wang Tiandao glanced at Li Feng: "I’ll be taking a trip to Jin City these next couple of days."

"Oh?"

Wang Tiandao looked at the still-pretending-to-be-calm Li Feng: "The matter of your engagement to Jin’er has been dragged on for so long, it’s time to settle it."

"Still the same conditions?"

Wang Tiandao snorted: "What, now that you’ve become a godfather and step into the Wang Family’s door again, you feel wronged?"

"Then you should know that if I’m unwilling, he can’t force me."

Li Feng picked up a chess piece and placed it down.

Wang Tiandao shook his head: "Even though I can’t figure out what that old man Chen Qinian is planning with this move, I’m not optimistic about you."

"Inside Century Group, there are numerous entrenched powers. Not to mention that you’ve offended the entire upper echelon of Century Group tonight—without even considering tonight’s events—what do you have to take control of a trillion-dollar group with just one person?"

"You can’t even manage a company with assets worth tens of millions."

Wang Tiandao really underestimated Li Feng, because Li Feng’s previous experiences had nothing to do with management, let alone that his field of study wasn’t in business management.

Managing a company is not an easy task. Starting from scratch with your own team might be easier to say, but Century Group had already grown into a behemoth, with a fixed structure established from top to bottom.

Breaking this structure, how easy would that be?

Especially since Li Feng was an outsider, it would be surprising if these people didn’t sideline him.

Li Feng curled the corner of his lip: "Father-in-law, you should have heard a saying."

"Hm?"

"Money can make the devil turn the millstone."

Wang Tiandao glanced at Li Feng: "No matter how much money you have, you need people to make it work. The entire high-level of Century Group sees you as an enemy. If those people don’t listen to you, you won’t be able to move a single penny, believe it or not."

"Unless you get engaged to Jin’er, with the Wang Family behind you, no one can snatch food from the tiger’s mouth."

"Heh, father-in-law is tempted?"

Li Feng curled the corner of his lip.

"Heaven has bestowed it; it would be rude not to accept."

"Just marry Jin’er to me, and I’ll give you half of Century Group as a betrothal gift."

Li Feng said.

"It must be through marrying into the family, this point is non-negotiable, because by making you a son-in-law, my purpose is to let Jin’er inherit the family business."

"However, marrying into the family is one thing, with Century Group, even as a son-in-law, nobody will look down on you. Your first son with Jin’er will take the Wang surname, the second can take your Li surname."

Wang Tiandao was not without compromise. Marrying into the family was a necessity; the reason he originally took interest in Li Feng was not for Li Feng’s talent or capabilities.

It was because Li Feng carried that person’s bloodline, and in addition, had the experience of being a stay-at-home dad.

"You’ve lost."

Li Feng suddenly placed a piece, then raised his eyes to Wang Tiandao.

Wang Tiandao looked down at the chessboard, indeed, the game was over: "You little rascal, are you disagreeing?"

Li Feng chuckled: "Wang Jin’er marrying me, and my second son taking the Wang surname, that’s my condition."
