Chapter 348: Chapter 348: The Auction
Dong Xin was feeling incredibly conflicted at the moment but found herself unable to refuse him. It was unclear how much time had passed when outside the window, all was silent.
"Asshole!"
Dong Xin turned her head away and hissed the insult through clenched teeth, as if that alone wasn’t enough to calm her anger; she straight-up bit Li Feng’s arm.
Li Feng inhaled sharply, "What are you, a dog?"
"Mm-hm, you guessed right, I am indeed akin to a dog, so what?"
Li Feng rolled his eyes and let Dong Xin take out her anger on his arm. After a while, seeing that Li Feng wasn’t reacting, Dong Xin couldn’t help but look up at him, "Doesn’t it hurt?"
"It hurts."
"Good."
Watching Dong Xin who, after asking, bit him hard again, Li Feng brought up the topic he had touched on earlier, "Can you tell me now why you came here?"
Dong Xin turned her head, with cheeks red like a ripe apple, "Mm-hm, can’t I just come out to ease my mind?"
Dong Xin had indeed come because she was feeling down and had accepted an invitation from a friend. She had heard about this grand banquet before—it was quite famous in their circles.
"And you, how did you end up here? You’re just the PR Director of a small company; you shouldn’t be qualified for an invitation. And, look at you in a waiter’s outfit, mm-hm, don’t tell me you came here to be an outsider."
For them, such events were just an excuse to gather everyone in one place, ostensibly to hold a gathering, but in reality, it was just a place for a bunch of people to fool around. If she wasn’t so irritated because of this bastard next to her, she wouldn’t have come to such a shady place.
Dong Xin’s words were laden with barbs, and Li Feng hmphed in response.
"Seriously now, what are you here for?" Dong Xin changed the subject.
"You’re not here for that auction, are you?"
Li Feng hadn’t yet decided how to respond. Although they had this kind of relationship, Li Feng didn’t intend to involve Dong Xin. But before he could think of an answer, Dong Xin guessed it on her own.
"Mm."
Li Feng nodded, "But I don’t know much about that auction."
Dong Xin puckered her lips, "Mm-hm, of course you don’t know much, you’re not qualified. The grand banquet here is not just about eating, drinking, and having fun. There’s genuine stuff involved."
Otherwise, just for the surface-level stuff, Dong Xin wouldn’t have come.
"Then tell me about it."
Li Feng looked at Dong Xin, wondering if there was some insider info about the grand banquet.
Dong Xin glared at Li Feng, "Can’t you stay put for once?"
"This grand banquet on Paradise Island has only been established in recent years, it’s by invitation only, and the guests who are eligible for an invite are all from noble backgrounds or are wealthy and powerful figures."
"On the surface, this event is just a large social gathering, but apart from eating, drinking, and playing, there’s also a three-day grand auction."
"Mm, go on."
Li Feng listened attentively, and Dong Xin continued, "I heard from my friend, this auction isn’t like those at regular auction houses, but the items auctioned are all rare treasures."
"Even some that could be called national treasures, things you wouldn’t normally see on the market, and certainly, not things that come up for trade."
"I came here because my grandfather is about to celebrate his eightieth birthday. I heard that there are a few antiques that my grandfather likes among the items being auctioned, so I came to have a look."
"And you?"
"Mm, I also caught some rumors, so I wanted to come and see for myself. It seems, though, that they run a tight ship here."
Li Feng sighed.
"If you want to go to the auction, I can take you in." Dong Xin wasn’t sure why she said that, perhaps because of their current relationship.
"Then I should thank you."
Dong Xin hmphed, "Is that what you were thinking when you first saw me?"
"To say that would be an insult to your charm."
...
Time passed, and an exhausted Dong Xin eventually fell into a deep sleep. Li Feng got up, lit a cigarette, and walked out to the sea-view balcony.
The auction, how interesting.
It seemed that the Kang Family knew how to stir the pot; not content with just the usual vices, they even delved into grave-robbing and tomb desecration.
Li Feng was obviously unaware of the origin of the name Sha Wang; it was derived from Sha Wang’s reputation for starting out as a tomb raider and gradually climbing to his current status.
The night quietly slipped away.
After taking a shower, Li Feng emerged from the bathroom to find Dong Xin not looking back, "Try on the clothes on the bed to see if they fit. The auction starts at two o’clock, and we’ll go there after we have lunch outside."
Li Feng responded with an "okay" and picked up the suit from the bed, ripping off the towel and beginning to get dressed.
Dong Xin, her cheeks slightly red, spat in disdain. Only when Li Feng was almost dressed did she turn around, "Remember, you’re my attendant now. Once we go out, you’ll have to follow my directions, got it?"
"A manservant?"
"That’s right, from now on, you’re the male escort I chose—of course that means a manservant. Any objections?"
Dong Xin glanced proudly at Li Feng.
Li Feng gulped down a mouthful of saliva; Dong Xin’s glance was indeed coolly stunning, enough to make one’s heart flutter.
"What are you... what are you doing?"
"Outside I might be a servant, but we aren’t out yet, are we?"
"You beast, my clothes were just tidied." Dong Xin rolled her eyes, swatting away Li Feng’s brazen hand and her face flushed slightly, "It’s getting late; we should go eat first. Aren’t you hungry?"
Li Feng opened the door, but his ears caught the sound of breathing from outside, and there wasn’t just one person. On guard, he tensed up.
"What’s the matter?" Dong Xin glanced at Li Feng.
"Nothing." Li Feng’s body tensed up as he casually opened the door. The moment the door opened, he saw a young man in a white suit standing in the corridor, a sullen look on his face.
