Chapter 267: Chapter 267: The Older, the Wiser
Li Feng looked up at his father-in-law, who had flown into a rage. The previously jubilant Wang Tiande and his companions had suddenly lost their fire.
This father-in-law of his was truly formidable. He had been silent before, seemingly forced to give in, but in reality, it looked like he had been plotting all along.
Li Feng just didn’t know how his father-in-law was planning against him.
He found himself actually looking forward to it.
Wang Tiandao took the initiative and overpowered Wang Tiande and the others. Although both the Wang and Chen Families were Sect Leaders of Sea City’s top ten groups, the Wang Family hailed from a thousand-year noble lineage, whereas Chen Qinian’s Chen Family was a nouveau riche family that had only risen over the past forty years.
Forty years ago, the Chen Family had been nothing more than peasant-born.
Therefore, the Wang Family inherently felt superior. No matter how wealthy the Chen Family became, rivaling Wang Family in terms of financial power, deep down, the Wang Family remained above them all.
Wang Tiande’s words were no doubt a slap in his own family’s face. Did the lofty Wang Family need to explain themselves to a nouveau riche?
Whoever dared to say such a thing would be reviled and spat upon by the Wang Family, deemed unworthy of their noble lineage.
Wang Tiande was also a bit too arrogant, attacking Li Feng in his eagerness, he had spoken without thinking and was immediately caught by Wang Tiandao, who took the reins of the conversation.
Wang Tiandao didn’t further disparage Wang Tiande, after all, the old lady was sitting beside them.
"I understand what you’re all thinking; you don’t want our Wang Family dragged unnecessarily into the Chen Family’s vortex. But this is not about our Wang Family being afraid of the Chen Family."
"As for closing down Myth Communication, I find it completely unnecessary. Since this trouble was brought by Li Feng, let him solve it."
"Change the legal representative of Myth Communication to Li Feng; let him be responsible for the trouble he caused."
"Additionally, didn’t you young man make a bet with Jin’er? You claimed you could make a hundred million in a month. That’s also why I didn’t speak up when you hit Zhou Jie and drove him out of the company. Since you’re so confident, then good."
"Starting from today, in one month, either fulfill your bet and make a hundred million, or the company goes bankrupt. After that, you can dutifully be a son-in-law and stay home as a stay-at-home dad."
"Dad!"
Wang Jin’er turned her head towards Wang Tiandao. This was cutting off all means of retreat; how could he do this?
Wang Tiandao, however, didn’t respond to Wang Jin’er and swept his gaze around sternly.
"Does anyone else have any objections?"
Wang Tiande and the others exchanged glances. Their big brother’s tactics were ruthless. It was just like the moves of the Seven Injuries Fist—hurting oneself to ensure the enemy is damaged first.
Going through it in their minds, after their brother’s maneuvering, all the responsibility fell squarely on that guy. The way the blame was shifted was simply masterful.
But wasn’t their big brother quite fond of that young man? Why wasn’t he protecting him now?
Regardless, for them, this was not bad at all. In fact, it was an even more decisive move than what they had in mind. Li Feng was going to be like an ant on a hot pan, just waiting to be tormented.
"Since the Family Head has spoken thus, we have no objections."
"Mother, is there anything else you wish to instruct?"
Wang Tiandao turned his head towards the elder Mrs. Wang, who got up, with Wang Jin’er supporting her: "Do as you say, Jin’er, help me to the Buddhist hall."
"Heh, kid, you better remember to come to the hospital. I’ll be waiting for your apology."
Wang Tiande gave Li Feng a cold look, huffed, and stepped out of the hall, with the others getting up to leave as well.
Wang Tiandao waited until everyone had gone before standing up: "First, return to my place."
Li Feng turned around to follow Wang Tiandao back to his courtyard. Entering the study room, he asked, "Do you blame me?"
Li Feng looked up at Wang Tiandao: "Uncle did the right thing; I should solve the trouble I’ve caused."
Wang Tiandao hummed in acknowledgement: "Don’t blame your uncle for not speaking up for you just now. Even though I am the Family Head, I can’t just make decisions on a whim in this household. Even your father, who achieved so much, wouldn’t dare to say he could do whatever he pleased."
"One billion is not a big deal to achieve; my only concern is the mess in the Chen Family."
"Do you really believe you can cure Chen Qinian?"
Wang Tiandao seemed to have learned some secrets from Wang Jin’er, and Li Feng shrugged his shoulders, "At least there’s a thirty percent chance."
"You told Jin’er it was a near certainty."
Wang Tiandao glanced at Li Feng, "But having a thirty percent chance isn’t bad. If you cure Chen Qinian, not only will this storm pass, but the people from the second and third branches will shut up. They won’t dare to look down on you as they do now."
"In time, once you enter the Wang Family, you won’t just be a stay-at-home dad."
Wang Tiandao didn’t continue but instead changed the subject, "I will make other arrangements for Jin’er. Myth Communication is yours now."
"Work hard."
Wang Tiandao patted Li Feng on the shoulder.
Li Feng nodded, "Then I’ll be leaving now." Wang Tiandao hummed in acknowledgment, and Li Feng turned and left the study.
"Li Feng."
Wang Jin’er hurried back and saw Li Feng leaving the yard; she quickly approached him, "I’m so sorry, I had no idea my dad would do that. I’ll go talk to him right now."
Li Feng reached out and grabbed Wang Jin’er.
"There’s nothing wrong with what your uncle did."
"Are you angry?"
Wang Jin’er looked up at Li Feng, and he pinched her cheek, "Angry? Why would I be angry?"
Wang Jin’er didn’t pull away Li Feng’s hand, but instead hummed at him with her gaze fixed on him, "By doing this, my dad is putting all the responsibility on you. And it seems, if the Chen Family really goes after you, my dad might just stand aside and do nothing."
"Century Group is one of the top ten conglomerates in Sea City, with enormous influence. This isn’t something you can solve just by being good at fighting."
Wang Jin’er clenched her teeth, money isn’t everything, but when there’s enough of it, it truly can do anything.
"Maybe you should call your uncle," she suggested, referring to Li Feng’s father, the man aiming for the pinnacle of power.
If he were willing to speak up, even if the Chen Family had close relations with heaven in Sea City, they would have to lay down their arms and pretend nothing had happened.
"Are you doubting your future husband’s capability?"
Li Feng leaned forward, almost touching Wang Jin’er’s cheek, interrupting her, and a blush spread across her face.
"No, I just feel..."
"You still don’t believe me."
Li Feng stopped her, placing a finger on Wang Jin’er’s lips, "From now on, don’t say anything. Just watch."
"A tiger doesn’t show its might and gets mistaken for a hello kitty."
Wang Jin’er watched as Li Feng suddenly turned around, pouting her lips; it’d be better if you really were a hello kitty, "Hey, where are you going?"
Li Feng waved his hand, "To the hospital, to apologize."
Wang Jin’er made a noise, "Wait for me, I’ll go with you."
Li Feng stopped and turned to look at Wang Jin’er, who was catching up, "Better not. I don’t want to lose face in front of you."
Wang Jin’er bit her lip, watching Li Feng walk away, and suddenly she felt a bit uneasy. He really was just going to apologize, wasn’t he?
