Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Father-in-law Loses His Temper
"What’s with that expression?"
Li Feng stared at Wang Jin’er, "I’m kind of surprised you agreed so readily."
A blush crept across Wang Jin’er’s face, and with a deliberately icy turn, she tossed the car keys to Li Feng, "You drive." After saying that, she walked to the passenger side, opened the door, and sat down.
Li Feng also got into the car and started it, then drove out of the police station gate.
"I have something to tell you!"
Wang Jin’er bit her lip and began to speak. Li Feng responded with an "Oh," "What is it?"
"My dad got me some bodyguards."
Wang Jin’er turned her head to look at Li Feng, who sensed her gaze and chuckled, "Getting you some bodyguards counts as news? I thought my cheap father-in-law had found you a few backups."
Wang Jin’er spat and said annoyed, "But I don’t like being followed, so you have to help me with this."
"How am I supposed to help you when it’s just your father-in-law being nice?" Li Feng said.
"Well, I don’t care, I just don’t like being followed. As for safety, aren’t I with you?"
Wang Jin’er bit her lip, feeling a mix of emotions. Although Li Feng often wasn’t reliable, he did make her feel secure. Since they met, he had saved her multiple times, twice in Huacheng and once in Jin City.
Her quick agreement to co-live with Li Feng was also because of this. Not to mention, Li Feng was too good at getting into trouble, and she had to keep a close eye, like what had happened tonight; she didn’t want a repeat of that.
Li Feng grunted, turned to look at Wang Jin’er, and smiled, "Well, Miss, with such trust, I must reciprocate."
"Fine, if the bodyguards sent by your father-in-law arrive, I’ll handle them."
"Mm, no need to bother, I’ve already talked to my dad," Wang Jin’er spoke, and Li Feng turned to look at her.
"Did you tell your dad we’re going to live together?"
Li Feng looked at Wang Jin’er thinking his fiancée was shy, but turned out to be quite open-minded.
Wang Jin’er snorted, "What are you thinking? Who said anything about living together? I just told my dad that you can protect me, so no bodyguards are needed."
"Oh."
Li Feng looked at Wang Jin’er, "You did speak the truth there,"
"But my dad doesn’t believe you’re capable, so...!" Wang Jin’er paused, and Li Feng sighed. Indeed, kindness was just a woman’s facade, crafty as a fox inside.
"Go on, what did the father-in-law say? I can handle it."
Wang Jin’er rolled her eyes, "What are you thinking? My dad doesn’t know how capable you are, so he wants you to come home and ask you in person."
Wang Jin’er’s bright eyes twinkled a bit, she was slightly hiding something, but the meaning was similar.
Wang Jin’er once had a bodyguard, Aunt Mei, who was injured by an assassin at a charity event in Huacheng and wouldn’t recover anytime soon. After another kidnapping incident, her father had been looking for a new bodyguard.
But good bodyguards, especially female ones, were hard to find as they were often quickly snapped up. The Wang family, although wealthy, sometimes couldn’t find them.
So, her father probably found male bodyguards this time, but Wang Jin’er didn’t want a man following her every day.
After all, rather than another male bodyguard, she’d prefer Li Feng. Since they were destined to be together.
"Alright."
Li Feng caught on to Wang Jin’er’s intentions; she wanted him as a bodyguard and was willing to co-live just to avoid having others around.
"Where are you going?"
"To see your father-in-law, isn’t that what you said he wanted?"
Li Feng turned to look at Wang Jin’er, who was at a loss for words, "Now? It’s only three in the morning, and you’re going to see my dad?"
"You have a room in the old mansion, don’t you?"
Wang Jin’er turned her head to look at Li Feng, her face filled with suspicion, "What are you up to?"
"Why so nervous? We’re going to be living together anyway. One more night won’t make a difference."
Wang Jin’er spat at Li Feng, "Living together is one thing, sharing a room is another. Don’t get any funny ideas."
"Right, you sleep on the bed; I’ll sleep on the floor. You don’t think I want to share a bed with you, do you?"
Wang Jin’er hummed, turning away, unwilling to argue the issue of cohabitation further, but her heart raced. If they really lived together, what would she do if he sneak attacked her at night?
The Wang family’s old mansion was not unfamiliar to Li Feng; he’d been there several times before, and the gatekeeper was there as usual.
"Miss."
The gatekeeper, awakened by the sound of the car, looked up and saw Li Feng get out with Wang Jin’er. Recognizing Wang Jin’er as the legitimate eldest daughter of the head family, he greeted them.
"Uncle Fu, sorry for coming back so late. Could you open the gate for us?"
"Sure, sure."
The old gatekeeper nodded repeatedly, but he gave Li Feng an extra glance. As the gatekeeper, he had seen Li Feng before and knew him to be the future son-in-law of the eldest Miss.
The gatekeeper turned and opened a small side door, letting Li Feng and Wang Jin’er into the mansion. Once inside the courtyard, Wang Jin’er turned to Li Feng and shushed him.
"Stay behind me."
Wang Jin’er tiptoed ahead, and Li Feng watched her cautious demeanor with amusement, wondering how returning home could seem so much like sneaking around.
"Sir."
Wang Tiandao woke early and pushed open his door, ready for his morning exercise, and a Wang family servant hurried over.
"Hm? De Lu, what are you doing here?"
"Sir, there’s something you need to know."
Wang Tiandao turned to the old butler; at this time of day, he wouldn’t be waiting at the door unless it were important: "What happened?"
Wang Tiandao’s expression turned serious, the old butler hesitated slightly.
"Speak."
The butler then whispered a few words to Wang Tiandao. Hearing this, Wang Tiandao’s expression suddenly changed, "What? That boy came back to the old mansion with my precious daughter in the middle of the night, and stayed together?"
"Good lad."
Wang Tiandao clenched his fists tightly. Although both families had agreed on the engagement, it wasn’t official yet, and now they were staying together, any scandal could disgrace the Wang family.
After all, the Li family was not to be trifled with. If Li Feng took control, wouldn’t he be at a loss, having sacrificed both his dignity and military power?
Without another word, Wang Tiandao strode directly towards Wang Jin’er’s courtyard, but instead of catching a scandal, he came face to face with Li Feng standing in the courtyard.
Wang Tiandao stopped, sizing up Li Feng, uncertain whether he had compromised his daughter.
"Uncle, you’re up early."
"Indeed, early. When did you get here, and why didn’t you let me know?" Wang Tiandao squinted at Li Feng.
"We were busy until late yesterday, so we came right back. Jin’er is still sleeping. Maybe we should go somewhere else to talk?"
Busy until late.
Wang Tiandao looked at Li Feng, "We do need to have a good talk." With that, he suddenly stepped forward and threw a punch at Li Feng.
Li Feng watched his father-in-law’s fist coming and caught the punch with his hand, "Uncle, are you trying to spar with me?"
"Hah, spar?"
Wang Tiandao looked at Li Feng, who suggested a spar. The young man was quite audacious.
