Chapter 168: Charity Invitation
Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Charity Invitation
Li Feng had just exited the elevator onto the office floor when the receptionist informed him that the president was looking for him and asked him to head to the office.
Li Feng was slightly taken aback, but he was somewhat prepared. After all, he had publicly hit Zhou Jie in the office before, and Myth Communication wasn’t so large that he wouldn’t hear such rumors; if he didn’t, it would mean the president wasn’t doing a very good job.
"You were looking for me?"
Li Feng pushed open the door to the president’s office and lazily sat down on the sofa. Wang Jin’er, behind the desk, glanced at Li Feng who made himself at home as if he were in his own house.
"You can leave."
"Yes, President."
Secretary Su Yuqing adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of her nose and shot Li Feng a look under her lenses, muttering under her breath as she walked out of the office in her high heels, closing the door behind her.
Once the door was shut, Wang Jin’er stood up from behind the desk with a stern face and looked seriously at Li Feng.
"Sit properly."
Wang Jin’er scolded Li Feng, who raised his eyes to look at her, towering and imposing in her uniform, and clicked his tongue.
"Shut your mouth. What’s with that clicking? Have I been too lenient with you?" Wang Jin’er glared fiercely at Li Feng.
Li Feng, staring at the somewhat fierce-looking Wang Jin’er, stood up straight from the sofa. "Please have a seat, President. Whatever you wish to instruct, please say."
Seeing Li Feng suddenly nodding and bowing, Wang Jin’er thought that men really were "cheap-skinned" – without a beating or scolding, they wouldn’t know their place. She huffed and sat down on the sofa, then glanced up at Li Feng.
"Li Feng, do you realize your mistake?"
Li Feng, looking down at Wang Jin’er from a commanding height, thought of a line of poetry describing how perspectives could change; indeed, from this angle, things looked more profound.
Seems like there’s no need for another one, no need for formula milk; mother’s milk is best. He thought about the past couple of years of being a dad, which had really worn him out.
"What are you thinking about?"
Wang Jin’er suddenly kicked Li Feng, who covered his collar and looked back at her, his face flushing red.
"Cough, I was profoundly reflecting on my mistakes. You are right, President. I was wrong, terribly wrong. I shouldn’t have hit my superior, even though he hit me, cursed me, and said I just married into and live off my wife’s family."
"But what he said was also true. My damned pride—I’ll certainly lower my standards next time, making sure not to fight back or talk back, to unite with colleagues, and flatter the bosses."
When Li Feng said all this, Wang Jin’er rolled her eyes blatantly. That wasn’t an apology; it was clearly a complaint.
Yet Wang Jin’er really had no way to deal with it. After all, she wasn’t deaf; Su Yuqing had already told her all the gossip circulating in the company.
"Alright, I know you feel wronged. Besides, I never said you couldn’t fight back or talk back. I just want you to be more careful next time."
Wang Jin’er softened, considering she was genuinely kind-hearted and well-protected by old Wang, whether people said she was out of touch or a greenhouse flower. This characteristic made Li Feng find her especially valuable.
"Alright, I’ll be more careful next time and won’t beat him in front of everyone."
Li Feng nodded solemnly.
Hearing Li Feng’s presumptuous response, Wang Jin’er rolled her eyes again. "You... never mind, I wanted to talk to you about something."
"Oh?"
"What is it?" Li Feng looked up at Wang Jin’er.
"There’s a charity auction tonight, and someone sent me an invitation."
"Hmm? If you got an invitation and want to go, just go; if you don’t want to, then don’t. You’re not worried I would mind, are you?"
"Relax, I’m not that petty."
"What’s that?"
Wang Jin’er was speechless, this guy really had some nerve, thinking someone was worried about his feelings.
Hmph.
Wang Jin’er snorted softly in her heart and said, "Besides the invitation for me, there’s one for you too."
After speaking, Wang Jin’er got up, walked to the desk, and handed a beautifully crafted envelope to Li Feng.
Li Feng furrowed his brows as he looked at the pink envelope, oozing femininity. "What’s this invitation for a charity auction about?"
"How would I know, your name is on it."
Wang Jin’er looked equally perplexed.
"Not going."
Li Feng didn’t even open the envelope and tossed it straight into the trash bin nearby. He kept a low profile in Huacheng, rarely made public appearances, and those who knew some details about Li Feng generally wouldn’t broadcast it everywhere. Although Huacheng was adjacent to Sea City, they were, after all, two different cities.
Wang Jin’er watched as Li Feng decisively threw the invitation away, then quickly retrieved it from the trash and slapped it back into Li Feng’s hand.
"You have to go."
Li Feng blinked and looked at Wang Jin’er. "Give me one good reason why I must."
"Because I’m going."
Wang Jin’er cockily tilted her head, and Li Feng nodded vigorously, "Then we’ll go; anyone who tries to stop me will get a beating."
"Stop kidding around."
Wang Jin’er pouted and looked at Li Feng. "Then you can’t dress too casually. Do you want me to accompany you to buy some clothes? This charity auction isn’t low-key, it’s organized by one of Sea City’s socialites, and the invitees are all upper-class."
"Oh."
"Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean anything by it, just... you know what I mean."
Li Feng watched the somewhat helpless Wang Jin’er and laughed, "I get it, dress sharp, can’t embarrass you, no problem."
"I didn’t mean that."
"I didn’t take it any other way either, I promise I won’t embarrass you. Nothing else then? I’ll be off."
Li Feng suddenly turned and left the office. Charity auction, buying clothes, it made Li Feng vaguely recall Ma Shuangshuang, whom he had been dragged along by to go clothes shopping before.
Could she be involved in this somehow?
Li Feng shook his head; maybe he was just being paranoid. They weren’t even close; it couldn’t be that relentless.
As for the invitation, Li Feng had no clue about it, but whether he wanted to go or not, he had to since Wang Jin’er was going.
Li Feng left the CEO’s office and immediately locked eyes with the secretary, Su Yuqing, then walked over to her desk.
"You were staring at me just now."
Su Yuqing ignored Li Feng, who approached her. He looked at the secretary: "It’s okay to look; no need to be embarrassed. I’m not the petty type, No harm done."
Su Yuqing had never seen someone so shamelessly thick-skinned. She raised her eyes to glance at Li Feng. "Even if I did take a glance at you, what’s the problem?"
