Chapter 109: Collecting Management Fees at the Gate
Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Collecting Management Fees at the Gate
As the Family Head of the Wang Family, Wang Tiandao was not merely the head of a household.
At the same time, Wang Tiandao was also the Chairman of the Wang Group, one of the top ten conglomerates in Sea City, ranked among the top 100 of Yan Country’s five hundred strongest, possessing a commercial empire worth hundreds of billions.
Occupying a high position, Wang Tiandao naturally exuded the imposing bearing of a superior; his stern questioning wasn’t something a green youth like Li Feng could withstand, let alone those with a bit of status who would be silenced like cicadas in the cold.
Li Feng looked at Wang Tiandao, who pressured him with his aura, and didn’t avert his gaze.
"From an antique shop on the street."
Upon hearing Li Feng’s answer, Wang Tiandao slammed his hand on the desk with a smack.
Wang Jin’er instinctively grew tense and looked towards Li Feng, who dared to respond so casually to her father.
"A street-side antique shop."
Li Feng nodded, "That’s right, just a street-side antique shop."
"A fake painting, where else to buy it if not on the street? Surely, you can’t mean that this painting is real."
Li Feng looked knowingly towards Wang Tiandao.
His mind was clear as a mirror; earlier in the courtyard, the expressions of the Wang Family members were filled with suppressed agitation, obviously having reached a conclusion that the painting he brought was indeed authentic.
If his was real, then the one the Wang Family had treasured all along must undoubtedly be fake. Now, that was going to be entertaining.
Everyone in the Wang Family was convinced that their painting was the genuine article, and now that he had revealed the real deal, it seemed like a slap in the face.
However, there was another possibility.
The "Eighty-Seven Immortals" scroll was personally painted by the legendary Wu Daozi, a painting of immense value.
Given the Wang Family’s foundation, it wasn’t strange for Li Feng that they could possess the original painting.
But the presence of this painting in an underground auction was cause for reflection, clearly indicating that someone had stolen it from the Wang Family and brought it to be auctioned off.
Underground auctions do not investigate the origins of the items; as long as you can present it, it may be auctioned off.
Stealing this painting from the Wang Family obviously wouldn’t have been easy; the security in the Wang Family mansion was no joke. The most likely explanation was an inside job.
This was indeed a family scandal.
No wonder they were all looking so grim earlier; this matter was far more serious than Li Feng beating up some of the Wang Family juniors. Moreover, the thief’s status within the family was not low.
Wang Tiandao’s eyes flickered as he looked at Li Feng.
"Your painting is, of course, a fake, although it is almost indistinguishable from the original. Because of this, I almost had a fallout with someone."
"Li boy, I have treated you with nothing but kindness and fairness."
Li Feng looked at his soon-to-be father-in-law speechlessly, thinking it no wonder they say an old fox is the spiciest. This old fox was playing innocent after taking advantage.
If Li Feng had been a complete novice, he would probably be overwhelmed with gratitude and loyalty to him right now.
"Thank you, Uncle Wang."
Li Feng stood up to offer his thanks, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back now. There aren’t many here who welcome me."
Wang Tiandao watched as Li Feng was about to leave and widened his eyes in disbelief. This kid really didn’t know how to play the game.
However, he couldn’t tell whether this kid was playing dumb or genuinely clueless.
Wang Tiandao was also not in a position to say clearly; after all, family scandals should not be publicized. It was almost certain that the theft of the painting was an insider job, and those with the access and ability to take and sell the painting were few and countable on one hand.
Wang Tiandao raised his hand and waved, signaling Li Feng to get lost.
"Dad, I’ll walk him out."
Wang Tiandao hummed in agreement, exhaling as the two left. Although Li Feng had inadvertently hit the mark this time, he now held the upper hand with this leverage, even without investigating.
Wang Jin’er walked Li Feng to the parking lot.
"Be careful in the future. My male cousins are not easy to deal with, and they definitely won’t just let this go."
Wang Jin’er bit her lip; she initially didn’t want to speak up, but felt it wouldn’t be right to remain silent. After all, Li Feng had fought for her sake.
Besides, from beginning to end, the Wang Family had been malicious to him. Wang Jin’er knew why; Li Feng was merely taking the blame for her.
"You should worry about your cousins, not me."
"I’m off."
Li Feng twisted into his car and drove away in the blink of an eye.
Wang Jin’er was utterly irritated, "Like I’d worry about you."
Li Feng didn’t linger in Sea City. He drove straight back to Huacheng and, upon parking outside Outer Heaven’s main gate, sensed that something was amiss.
"What’s going on?"
"Young Master Feng."
Li Feng looked at the security guard’s bruised face—clearly, the man had been beaten.
"What exactly happened, where’s Bai He?"
"Manager Bai has gone to the hospital."
"The hospital?"
Li Feng’s expression immediately darkened, "What the hell happened?"
"Young Master Feng, let me explain."
The lobby manager, Du Qiuyu, approached, and Li Feng turned to look at him as he exhaled.
"In the daytime, a group of people came to our hotel demanding a ’management fee.’ Manager Bai He confronted them, and a scuffle ensued."
"The other side was well-prepared. Manager Bai was hit with a stun gun and then took a blow to the head. The other security guards were also injured to varying degrees."
"They threatened to make the hotel pay a monthly management fee of five million or we won’t be able to continue operating. Today’s incident was a warning—if we don’t pay up within three days, we’ll have to face the consequences."
Hearing Du Qiuyu’s account, Li Feng suddenly burst into laughter.
Du Qiuyu, who was clenching her fists with a look of gritted teeth, glanced at Li Feng upon hearing his laughter.
"Young Master Feng, why are you laughing?"
A sly smile crept across Li Feng’s face, "Shouldn’t I laugh? Someone has the audacity to demand a management fee from me."
"Isn’t it hilarious?"
Biting her lip, Du Qiuyu looked at Li Feng, "Young Master Feng, those people seemed vicious and hard to mess with. What kind of place do they think Outer Heaven is to be so bold?"
"We called the police later, but they arrived leisurely and just half-heartedly took our statements."
Du Qiuyu, who had worked her way up to lobby manager, was no fool.
Outer Heaven was the top hotel in Huacheng, a veritable business card for the city. Ordinarily, if anyone was audacious enough to demand a management fee, the police would have acted swiftly.
This time, however, the police’s response was ambiguous.
Du Qiuyu knew this group had to be influential for them to act so brazenly and directly come to our doorstep.
Li Feng looked at the worried Du Qiuyu and patted her on the shoulder.
"Get ready to have five million in cash."
"What?!"
Du Qiuyu looked at Li Feng in astonishment.
"Do as I said."
Li Feng walked past Du Qiuyu, a cold smile on his lips.
Five million—I, Li Feng, am bold enough to offer it, but do you dare to take it?
A sleazy-looking lackey took a phone call and approached the mahjong table to whisper in the other person’s ear.
"Speak up."
Sitting at the mahjong table, Hammer, who wore a bathrobe that revealed his explosive chest muscles, grabbed a tile and discarded it.
"East Wind."
"East, I’ll pong!"
The pretty lady opposite him quickly stood up, calling out her move. As she bent over to pick up the tile, the towel wrapped around her was noticeably too small.
The lackey’s eyes unconsciously swept over her, swallowing hard. Temptress.
"Hammer, Li Feng has returned to Outer Heaven."
"That’s it? I got it. Stop disturbing my mahjong game."
