Chapter 619 - 619 638 Fearfulness

619: Chapter 638 Fearfulness 619: Chapter 638 Fearfulness “The Diamond Sutra, the Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, some well-known Buddhist Scriptures were being recited by these monks in a low murmur, but it seemed as though the monks were simply going through the motions, without genuine focus or devotion.

In contrast, the devout villagers of Little Stone Village worshiped Buddha with a look of reverence in their eyes, clearly holding Buddha’s position in their hearts as the utmost supreme.

Underneath a mulberry tree, Ye Xuan stood alone, leaning against the tree.

He watched the ongoing worship with a detached gaze, not participating.

To Ye Xuan, the so-called Immortals and Buddhas were hardly worth mentioning.

Naturally, he would not bow before a Buddha statue like the villagers, nor had he ever taken the Western Lingshan and The Thunderclap Monastery seriously.

Had it not been for the fact that Buddhism was founded by the Western Two Saints, considering what Lingshan had done to him in years past, Ye Xuan would have destroyed Lingshan long ago.

How could there be the grand event of worshiping Buddha today?

After a good half day had passed, the intricate rituals of the ceremony gradually neared their end.

Each villager from Little Stone Village had a gleaming face, chanting Buddhist Scriptures they did not understand.

“Buddhist Law is boundless, benefiting all humanity,” declared Ku Hui with his hands pressed together.

He loudly chanted the Buddha’s name, and two monks emerged from the crowd with a Merit Box in hand.

They then surveyed the villagers of Little Stone Village, evidently seeking Incense money.

“I am moved by Buddha’s kindness and compassion!” exclaimed Zhang Qinghe with his hands joined in prayer.

With a look of devout sincerity, he was the first to step forward, clutching five Copper Coins tightly in his hand.

He then reverently placed them into the Merit Box.

And then!

Ku Hui’s brow furrowed at the sight of Zhang Qinghe’s five donated Copper Coins.

He had expected Little Stone Village to contribute little Incense money, but he hadn’t thought that the leader of the village could be so destitute, not to mention presumably the other villagers could be even poorer.

Indeed!

Before Ku Hui’s frown could relax, he saw the villagers of Little Stone Village one by one coming forward, some giving one Copper Coin, others two, and there were even those offering up agricultural products like sweet potatoes as Incense money to the monk holding the Merit Box.

“Enough!”

This scene directly caused Ku Hui’s face to turn red with anger.

The pent-up rage that he had been holding inside was rising, and his scolding voice exploded in the villagers’ ears.

“It’s bad enough that the offerings of three animals and four fruits are so inferior, but now to be so miserly with even your Incense money towards Buddha, you unruly peasants are utterly lawless, with no Buddha in your hearts!” Ku Hui was beside himself with anger, where was any trace of kindness or compassion now?

“Envoy, please calm your anger, it’s really our Little Stone Village…” stammered Zhang Qinghe, his face pale, hastening to bend over and explain.

But before he could finish his sentence, Ku Hui glared at him, sending a chill down Zhang Qinghe’s spine and choking back his words.

“Poor mountains and bad waters produce unruly peasants, poor mountains and bad waters produce unruly peasants indeed!” Ku Hui was seething with such anger that he began to stomp his feet.

He had wasted half a day for very little Incense money in return, which was the ultimate humiliation for him.

The wrath of the Buddhist Envoy filled the villagers of Little Stone Village with dread and uneasiness, yet no one dared to utter a word of rebuttal.

Clearly, the authority of the Buddhist Sect had been established in Western Continent for a long time, leaving the villagers devoid of any deviant thoughts.

“Bad person!”

Suddenly, a weak child’s voice rose from the crowd.

Although it was not loud, given that the Buddhist Envoy was already enraged and the villagers dared not speak, this voice seemed rather piercing.

“How dare you, who dares to speak ill of Buddha?” Ku Hui was already seething with anger, and upon hearing this voice, his fury was further fueled.

He began searching for the source of the sound.

“Zhuo Ma, don’t talk nonsense.”

In the crowd, Uncle Zhuo’s face changed drastically.

He quickly scolded the little girl in a low voice and covered her mouth; clearly, the voice had originated from little Zhuo Ma.

“Very well, very well, even this young child slanders the people of Buddhism.

Your Little Stone Village is quite bold.” Ku Hui pointed at the villagers present, his voice turning extremely cold and stern.

“Envoy, please calm your anger.

She’s just a child.

Please do not take offense at her words.”

Uncle Zhuo swiftly prostrated on the ground, continuously kowtowing to Ku Hui, pulling his granddaughter to kneel as well to apologize, but the little girl dodged away and ran to Ye Xuan, hiding half of her body behind him.

“They’re bad people, they bully Uncle Qinghe and exploit the villagers for their money.”

The little girl’s lips were tightly pursed as she looked at Ku Hui and the line of monks with a look of disgust in her eyes.

Clearly, though she could not yet distinguish good from evil, she could see who was good and who was bad.

“Demon child, this must be a demon child.” Being scolded so by a little girl, Ku Hui’s face turned green with fury as he pointed at Zhuo Ma and loudly berated her.

“How dare you, demon child, confuse the crowd and slander the reputation of Buddhism with your bewitching lies.”

Ku Hui’s scolding rang out as he took long strides towards the little girl.

His Golden Core Stage Cultivation was unfolding, and a round of Buddha Light burst forth, instilling in anyone who saw it a profound sense of dread.

“Envoy, please calm your anger.

She’s only a child, certainly not some demon child.” Uncle Zhuo, drenched in cold sweat, hurried to stand in front of Ku Hui, his voice trembling with a pleading tone.

“Envoy, please see clearly.

She really is just a child.

Please, Envoy, mustn’t let anger prevail.” Zhang Qinghe spoke humbly, prostrating directly at Ku Hui’s feet.

“Get out of my way!”

Ku Hui swept his sleeve, flinging the two men away, causing Zhang Qinghe and Uncle Zhuo to emit a muffled groan as they fell heavily onto the ground.

“Lowly peasants!”

Ku Hui voiced his contempt coldly.

Were it not for his position in Buddhism prohibiting the taking of life, he would have surely killed them both that day to save himself the disgust.

“Grandfather, Uncle Qinghe!”

Little Zhuo Ma cried out softly, ready to run over to the two men, but before she could move, a gentle hand pulled her back.

“If you dare come any closer, today will be the day you don’t leave.”

Suddenly, an indifferent voice came from behind the little girl.

Ye Xuan was standing there with his hands behind his back, looking at Ku Hui with a cold detachment; clearly, the words were his.

“Hm?”

As Ye Xuan’s words reached his ears, Ku Hui’s expression shifted slightly.

He focused his gaze on Ye Xuan, suddenly noticing a young man in black standing behind the little girl.

Ye Xuan wore a coarse linen shirt, with his grayish-white hair falling loosely behind his head.

His features were extremely handsome, and his skin was as tender and white as jade.

Despite his simple attire, his presence alone exerted an indescribable pressure.

Though Ku Hui himself was a member of the Buddhist Sect and also a Buddhist Practitioner at the Golden Core Stage, he wasn’t particularly high in Cultivation.

However, he was extremely adept at judging people; otherwise, he could not have become a Buddhist Envoy just with his Golden Core Stage Cultivation.

When Ye Xuan’s figure filled Ku Hui’s vision, his pupils suddenly fixed, and his heart began to pound violently, as if the person standing before him was not merely a man, but an unimaginably important figure.

Pressure, mountainous pressure – this was the first impression Ye Xuan gave to Ku Hui.
