613: Chapter 632: Grandfather and Grandson 613: Chapter 632: Grandfather and Grandson “Ouch!”

Bang!

As Ye Xuan passed by the grandfather and granddaughter, a cry of pain came from the little girl.

Her small body staggered from the impact with Ye Xuan and then she fell to the ground.

“Zhuo Ma!”

The old man felt a pang in his heart, he hurried over to help the little girl up, then dusted her off before finally looking up at Ye Xuan.

Ye Xuan’s hair was disheveled, covering his face, but his eyes were lost and vacant, and he was still murmuring the eight characters that pertained to entering the realm of Quasi-Saint; he had not even realized he had knocked down the little girl.

Stumbling forward, Ye Xuan had now reached the edge of the creek, and to the old man’s astonishment, Ye Xuan started walking into the water as if unaware that the creek could claim his life.

One should know that this creek, although it appeared shallow and even had village children playing in it, was safe only near its banks.

The middle of the creek was riddled with undercurrents, and if one were in the center, it would be enough to overwhelm and submerge a person, surely leading to a certain death.

“Be careful!”

The old man, being kind-hearted, although Ye Xuan had knocked over the little girl, could sense Ye Xuan’s confusion and believed it was not intentional.

Seeing Ye Xuan now half-submerged in the creek caused a drastic change in his expression, and he raised an urgent cry.

Unfortunately, Ye Xuan seemed not to hear the old man’s words; he continued to walk into the creek, his body gradually sinking into the water.

In a few moments, Ye Xuan would be completely swallowed by the creek.

“Come back!”

The old man may have appeared frail, but he moved swiftly, taking two steps at a time, running towards Ye Xuan, and then jumping into the creek.

He quickly grabbed Ye Xuan by the arm and started pulling him back toward the bank.

“If the heart doesn’t perish…

all things will endure…

The True Spirit is born…

A Quasi-Saint can be made?”

Ye Xuan was dragged to the bank by the old man and lay on his back in the grass.

However, his eyes remained vacant, and he kept murmuring this phrase, as if it had become a demon spell, etched deeply into his mind.

“Grandpa, is…

is this big brother sick?” The little girl tugged at the old man’s arm, looking at Ye Xuan with curiosity in her eyes.

“Young man, where are you from?”

Gazing at Ye Xuan’s confused state, the old man furrowed his brow but still asked, only for Ye Xuan to give no response, continuously repeating the same phrase over and over.

“Sigh!”

The old man sighed deeply, “It seems this man has come down with amnesia, and who knows why he has wandered here.”

“Grandpa, this big brother looks so pitiful, why don’t we bring him home and give him something to eat?” The little girl was young and naturally innocent, and seeing Ye Xuan so bewildered, she couldn’t help but feel compassion.

“Good, Grandpa was thinking the same thing.

Let him stay at our house tonight, and tomorrow we’ll take him to the town and hand him over to the officials.

They can help him find his family,” the old man decided.

The sunset was fading; the afterglow of the dying sun.

With the support of the old and the young, Ye Xuan walked towards the village with the grandfather and granddaughter.

However, they did not know that Ye Xuan, whom they believed to be insane, was actually entering a mystical state of searching for identity.

Green Stone Village, that was the name of this village, so named after a meteor from beyond the skies had fallen upon it centuries ago.

Smoke wafted from chimneys, a hundred households alight.

As night descended, dozens of families in Green Stone Village would light oil lamps and have their rare peaceful dinner.

At the very end of the village stood an earthen house, not very large, enclosed by a wattle fence, its walls slightly cracked, indicating its considerable age.

Inside the earthen house!

An oil lamp, a slightly worn square table, beneath which lay a Green Stone to balance it, the table bore the simple dinner for the grandfather and granddaughter.

Their dinner was modest, two buns, a plate of boiled greens, and a palm-sized braised carp—yet the fish was too small, insufficient to fill even the little girl, let alone an adult.

A glimpse was enough to deduce the whole!

Clearly, the grandfather and granddaughter’s life wasn’t affluent, and suddenly having an additional person in the house had stretched their food supply thin.

In front of the square table.

The grandfather and granddaughter faced Ye Xuan as they sat down, yet Ye Xuan, silent and still, didn’t respond to the old man and young girl’s questions.

“Big brother, you’re a guest, the buns are for you to eat, and so is the fish.”

Despite her young age, the little girl was thoughtful and understanding.

She pushed the fish toward Ye Xuan and even placed a bun in his bowl before swallowing hard and looking at him.

It was night, and the pangs of hunger were natural for the little girl, but with the food in the house running low, she could only bear it quietly.

“Little Zhuo Ma, Grandpa has already eaten at noon.

You have this portion.”

The old man smiled kindly and placed the remaining bun in the little girl’s hand before fondly stroking her fluffy hair.

“Grandpa’s lying, at noon Zhuo Ma saw you working for the blacksmith uncle, how could you have eaten lunch?” The little girl quickly pushed the bun back, puffing up with exasperation.

“Ha ha, Grandpa really ate, why don’t you believe me, you silly girl?” The old man chuckled awkwardly, then broke the bun in his hand in half and gave one half to the little girl, “Come on, let’s eat together.”

The grandfather and granddaughter, in a moment of utmost warmth, began their dinner amidst laughter and talk, but what they didn’t know was that this scene before Ye Xuan’s eyes was slowly bringing his wandering gaze into focus.

“Reincarnation of the Six Paths, all things revolve, the saddest plight for mortals is sinking in the depths of Red Dust—after a hundred years, souls return to the Underworld, eternally trapped in the cycle of Reincarnation.

Is this so-called kinship of the Mortal World just a fleeting dream, is it really that important to you?”

Suddenly, a deep and cold voice erupted from Ye Xuan, momentarily startling the laughing and talking grandfather and granddaughter before they looked at him, astonished and delighted.

“You’ve come around, young brother?” The old man asked, his voice tinged with joy as he looked at Ye Xuan.

Alas, Ye Xuan offered no answer to the old man’s question, instead, he silently observed the two before him and then glanced at the food on the table.

A bun, a plate of boiled greens, a palm-sized braised carp—when these three mundane items entered Ye Xuan’s field of vision, a hint of disdain flickered across his eyes.

Ye Xuan’s disdain was not for the food of the Mortal World, but for the kindness of the grandfather and granddaughter.

“You would rather starve yourselves than to share food with me, this so-called kindness in your hearts is nothing but a joke to me,” Ye Xuan said coldly.
