511: Chapter 520: Six Desires Heartless, Heaven and Earth Heartless 511: Chapter 520: Six Desires Heartless, Heaven and Earth Heartless Ye Xuan strolled through the heavenly vault, with Huang Pangzi and others following behind him.
Along the way, he had seen half of the human world, yet the aura around him grew increasingly indifferent.
The human world was still the same, but within this vast red dust, there were no longer any people or things familiar to Ye Xuan, which made him gradually become indifferent to it as well.
Jiangnan City!
Technology and cultivation coexisted; although the two paths were different, they progressed side by side.
One could occasionally see cultivators sweeping across the sky, as well as magnetic flying boats shuttling through their aerial routes.
Ye Xuan strolled high in the sky, overlooking Jiangnan City below, but could no longer find the familiar scenes from his memories.
“Which cultivator is so uncultured as to disregard our no-fly edict?”
Suddenly, about a dozen streaks of light ascended and appeared directly in front of Ye Xuan and the others.
The leader was a young woman with a curvaceous figure and an incredibly beautiful face.
“Scram!”
Huang Pangzi had no mercy for beauty.
With Ye Xuan revisiting his past, how could he let these insignificant ants disturb him?
This made Huang Pangzi coldly scold in a stern voice.
“How dare you!”
Chastised by Huang Pangzi’s anger, the young woman was slightly stunned, then instantly recovered, her face showing a mix of embarrassment and rage.
Over a dozen cultivators quickly surrounded Ye Xuan and the others in the middle.
“You are courting death.”
Huang Pangzi’s expression turned dark and menacing in an instant, with heavenly immortal light just beginning to emerge around him.
The heaven and earth trembled, unmistakably displaying the might resembling that of an immortal, as if he were about to annihilate all these people in front of him in the next moment.
“Immortal…immortal?”
When the young woman saw the immortal light emanating from Huang Pangzi, her formerly angry expression changed instantly to one of horror.
Her beautiful eyes widened in fear.
“How is that possible… How can you possibly be an immortal?”
The young woman was beside herself with shock, but when she saw Gu Beichen and several other Netherworld members, she felt her entire body go weak, for not only was Huang Pangzi revealing his heavenly immortal cultivation, but Gu Beichen and the others also radiated with immortal light.
It was like a wild and unbelievable tale, absolutely incredulous.
When the young woman saw over a dozen heavenly immortals appear before her, it was as if she had fallen into a dream she couldn’t wake from.
“Bing’er!”
Suddenly, a spiritual light surged up from Jiangnan City, and a woman with a graceful figure quietly appeared in the void.
As she appeared, Huang Pangzi and the others looked shocked, and the immortal light around them slowly dissipated.
“Master…Master…they…they are immortals…” The young woman cried out in horror, quickly moving to stand before her master, her look towards Ye Xuan and the others filled with utter terror.
Yun Mengyao!
An old acquaintance from the past, someone so far removed that Ye Xuan had almost forgotten her existence.
If Ye Xuan remembered correctly, when he returned from the Blood Sea Battlefield to the city, this woman had once been Ye Ling’er’s teacher and had many interactions with him and his family.
Yet, Ye Xuan had never imagined that, after thousands of years, Yun Mengyao would still be alive, and even now, appearing before him.
At this moment,
Not only did Ye Xuan recognize the newcomer, but when Yun Mengyao saw Huang Pangzi and others, she was also slightly taken aback.
However, when she glimpsed Ye Xuan from the corner of her eye, she seemed frozen, no longer uttering a sound.
“It’s been a long time,” Ye Xuan said softly.
“It’s… been a long time.”
Yun Mengyao snapped out of her daze and returned to her usual cool demeanor, yet a closer look revealed that her fists were clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms unknowingly, confirming that Yun Mengyao was far from as calm as she appeared.
Thousands of years had passed, and when they met again and greeted each other, both fell into silence.
“After all these years…
I never imagined…
that I would see you again in my lifetime,” Yun Mengyao finally broke the silence after several breaths.
“Yes, it’s been over six thousand years.
That you and I could reunite is indeed fate,” Ye Xuan sighed wistfully, his heart also filled with a tinge of poignancy—perhaps Yun Mengyao was the last old friend he had left in the Human World.
Overhearing the conversation between her master and Ye Xuan, Li Bing’er’s eyes reflected surprise and uncertainty.
The look she gave Ye Xuan was one of utter shock, as Yun Mengyao often mentioned a man, and since she had been following her, the legend about this man had been ingrained in her memory.
Incredibly astute, Li Bing’er could deduce from their exchange that this mysterious man was probably the very one her master so often spoke of, a realization that sparked her curiosity to covertly scrutinize Ye Xuan.
“Having not seen each other for thousands of years, won’t you come to sit at my place?”
Yun Mengyao invited him with a smile, though her lips were bitten tight—a sign that she was well aware that Ye Xuan, a man of such unyielding heartlessness, might decline her invitation.
“Very well.”
Ye Xuan smiled broadly and didn’t turn down Yun Mengyao’s invitation, after all, she might just be the last old friend he had in the Human World.
…
The gentle sounds of flowing water and wind chimes filled the air.
This was Mountain and Water Manor, full of ancient charm, and it was where Yun Mengyao resided.
The constant murmur of the stream and the swaying willows, along with a plethora of vegetation planted around, set the scene where Ye Xuan and Yun Mengyao sat facing each other in a pavilion.
Two jade cups and a jade decanter of wine were all they had.
Whoosh!
Yun Mengyao lifted the decanter and filled their cups with wine, the drink’s verdant hue slightly thick, swirling softly in the cups and diffusing an intoxicating fragrance that made one feel inebriated just by its scent.
“Please!”
With both hands, Yun Mengyao raised her cup and drained the wine in one go.
Ye Xuan offered a slight smile and did the same, and for a time they sat in silence, the atmosphere turning somewhat somber.
Ye Xuan was no fool; he could see a hint of affection in Yun Mengyao’s eyes.
Despite her attempts to conceal it, his sensitive nature couldn’t help but feel it.
“Ye Xuan, did you ever like me?”
“Even just a little bit?”
Eyes cast down, Yun Mengyao once again finished the wine in her cup.
She finally voiced the question that had been in her heart for thousands of years and looked up at Ye Xuan.
Ye Xuan hadn’t expected Yun Mengyao to be so forthright, and it caught him off guard, leaving him at a loss for how to respond to her question.
In the past, their paths had crossed, and Ye Xuan’s mother had even hoped to encourage a match between them.
However, back then, Ye Xuan’s sole focus was on becoming an immortal, and he had no interest in romantic entanglements.
“Is it really so hard to answer?” Yun Mengyao laughed self-deprecatingly at Ye Xuan’s silent response, her eyes reddening slightly at that moment.
That day, no one knew what the two of them talked about, but when Ye Xuan walked out from the pavilion, a faint sound of sobbing could be heard from within Mountain and Water Manor.
Six Desires are Heartless, Heaven and Earth are indifferent.
Such was the path Ye Xuan walked, untouched by the love of the Mortal World.
Even though Yun Mengyao had deeply felt for him, Ye Xuan chose not to indulge in those emotions.
